This book is about a protagonist named Nafa Walid, and the novel is set in the Algerian civil war. The first reason that got me to read this book was the main character, so i wanted to comprehend this protagonist and at the beginning of the book, i was in the progress to do so, thanks to the use of the first person point of view in narrating, but later, the author changed this and it got me less attached to the novel. Also the long descriptions of the living conditions back then in Algeria were ...more

This is a very well written book by Yasmina Khadra.

It tells the story of how our country changed this young Algerian, Nafa, from this dreamer artist to a bloody monster.

The book also gives an idea about the black years that Algeria lived in the 1990's.

I read the book in its original language, French. I am sure you can find it translated in many languages. I recommend it to all international readers.
