I'm devastated. I read this book in a single day. I was hooked by the story and loved the childlike wonder of the way Pi looked at the world prior to the ship sinking. And then with the ordeal that followed the book became something more. I was completely sold but started to lose my conviction when Richard Parker goes blind. The encounters that followed that point started to sour me on the story and then in the last 30 pages, even that was explained and to some degree explained.

I was told this book would make me believe in God. I think I'd need to read it about thirty more times, and by the thirtieth, it would have accomplished its goal. The scope, subject matter, ideas introduced, and effect of the book are too huge, too stunning, to wondrous to be absorbed and processed in any logical way on a first read. Not my usual cup of tea but I did enjoy it.
I have to admit there were passages that I skimmed over. The middle was interesting. Since it was so far fetched anyway, why not have more bonding between the two.
