Which New Weird book would you like to discuss during March?
Our focus for March is "New-Weird" with focus on author Jeff Vandermeer. For our "main" discussion, we could either suss out the New Weird genre by having a look at the entries in Ann VanderMeer's anthology The New Weird, or we could read something by Jeff VanderMeer.

I loved City of Saints & MM and think there's quite good discussion material there. Been itching to do the other ones too...
In any case, it would be interesting to see how people react to it. :)

They are, T.D., but the first one, City of Saints, is more a collection of short stories than a novel proper, with maybe one or two the length of a novella.
The other two are novels that take place in the same 'world' but they are not that closely linked together, I am told, that it would make much of a difference which one you start with.
City of Saints will you give you some background on the world, but the three volumes are not completely essential to one another.

Thanks, Traveller. Well, I suppose I don't really mind where we begin, then :)
I was thinking it would be nice to taste one (I read and liked City of S.) and then the group as a group can decide if we want to do another one as a full discussion or just a smaller discussion or whatever. (At Mievillians we used to do pretty in-depth discussions with a few threads dedicated to each 'large' discussion.)
Since we can afford to be freer with our structure here, we thought it would be good to see how it pans out - not all people like to spend a lot of time on large discussions, so we're trying to make space for 'smaller' ones as well.

Man, you don't know how long I've been wanting to read Finch... I bought it about 3 years ago and it's been winking at me.... maybe we can do a buddy read for it or something... :P (Since City of Saints seems to be winning here) Shall we? :P Maybe i can personally convince some more people to come along with that. We'd have to make do with one thread then, though...

Turns out there is quite a bit of interest for both City of Saints -and- the New Weird.
I think I'll do a structured folder for City of Saints which we then read and discuss together in an ordered manner.
How do members feel about us doing a dedicated folder for The New Weird, and make it a folder on which members can start their own threads about the various entries in the anthology?
I mean, speaking for myself, I often tend to cherry-pick out of an anthology like that, and if we do it that way, then each person gets to chat about those stories or articles that interest them. That sound like an plan?

Sounds like a great plan to me. Will give us a great reading thread, and a thread to pop in from time to time. Might make it busy for a Finch buddy read, but I'm up for that as well... just a matter of timing, and skipping some sleep :)
