4.5 stars!!! This was so much better than the last one! Powerless felt like a mashup of several other YA fantasy books with a twist to them and while I can definitely see similarities in Reckless, there’s enough difference for it to work. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Paedyn and Kai throughout this book and the additional Kitt POVs throughout their journey added both mystery and context for back in Ilya (and pain). The twist at the end was something I predicted but still had my jaw dropping.

Edit: someone posted that this book was very reminiscent of Dance of thieves and I think that’s why I liked it.

Great Big Beautiful Life 218559595 Two writers compete for the chance to tell the larger-than-life story of a woman with more than a couple of plot twists up her sleeve in this dazzling and sweeping new novel from Emily Henry.

Alice Scott is an eternal optimist still dreaming of her big writing break. Hayden Anderson is a Pulitzer-prize winning human thundercloud. And they’re both on balmy Little Crescent Island for the same reason: To write the biography of a woman no one has seen in years--or at least to meet with the octogenarian who claims to be the Margaret Ives. Tragic heiress, former tabloid princess, and daughter of one of the most storied (and scandalous) families of the 20th Century.

When Margaret invites them both for a one-month trial period, after which she’ll choose the person who’ll tell her story, there are three things keeping Alice’s head in the game.

One: Alice genuinely likes people, which means people usually like Alice—and she has a whole month to win the legendary woman over.

Two: She’s ready for this job and the chance to impress her perennially unimpressed family with a Serious Publication

Three: Hayden Anderson, who should have no reason to be concerned about losing this book, is glowering at her in a shaken-to-the core way that suggests he sees her as competition.

But the problem is, Margaret is only giving each of them pieces of her story. Pieces they can’t swap to put together because of an ironclad NDA and an inconvenient yearning pulsing between them every time they’re in the same room.

And it’s becoming abundantly clear that their story—just like the tale Margaret’s spinning—could be a mystery, tragedy, or love ballad…depending on who’s telling it.]]>

<![CDATA[Fourth Wing (The Empyrean, #1)]]> 199336186 Enter the brutal and elite world of a war college for dragon riders...

Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders.

But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile humans. They incinerate them.

With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success. The rest would kill her just for being her mother’s daughter—like Xaden Riorson, the most powerful and ruthless wingleader in the Riders Quadrant.

She’ll need every edge her wits can give her just to see the next sunrise.

Yet, with every day that passes, the war outside grows more deadly, the kingdom's protective wards are failing, and the death toll continues to rise. Even worse, Violet begins to suspect leadership is hiding a terrible secret.

Friends, enemies, lovers. Everyone at Basgiath War College has an agenda—because once you enter, there are only two ways out: graduate or die]]>

Iron Flame (The Empyrean, #2) 210912039
Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College, Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky.

Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

Although Violet’s body might be weaker and frailer than everyone else’s, she still has her wits—and a will of iron. And leadership is forgetting the most important lesson Basgiath has taught her: Dragon riders make their own rules.

But a determination to survive won’t be enough this year.

Because Violet knows the real secret hidden for centuries at Basgiath War College, and nothing, not even dragon fire, may be enough to save them in the end.]]>

I needed sufficient time to process everything I just read and honestly I don’t think I will ever be over this book, this series, this world, these characters, THEM!!!! I finished this around 7pm and have just been nonstop thinking about it. I could not have asked for a more perfect conclusion to Evangeline’s story with pieces being woven in from the previous books and even callbacks to the Caraval series. I was feeling so many emotions reading this book: I was raging, giggling, sobbing, confused, and everything in between. There are now moments in both series that have entirely new interpretations. This series will most likely leave me in a serious book hangover because I genuinely can’t think of anything else. This is my Roman Empire!!! This is my favorite book of the year and I cannot imagine any book topping this in the next few months. I will probably end up updating this review again with more proficient thoughts but I just wanted to share my love for this book. Infinite stars!!! Laying on the ground thinking about this about them

Funny Story 194802722 A shimmering, joyful new novel about a pair of opposites with the wrong thing in common, from #1 New York Times bestselling author Emily Henry.

Daphne always loved the way her fiancé, Peter, told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it... right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra.

Which is how Daphne begins her new story: stranded in beautiful Waning Bay, Michigan, without friends or family but with a dream job as a children’s librarian (that barely pays the bills), and proposing to be roommates with the only person who could possibly understand her predicament: Petra’s ex, Miles Nowak.

Scruffy and chaotic—with a penchant for taking solace in the sounds of heart break love ballads—Miles is exactly the opposite of practical, buttoned-up Daphne, whose coworkers know so little about her they have a running bet that she’s either FBI or in witness protection. The roommates mainly avoid one another, until one day, while drowning their sorrows, they form a tenuous friendship and a plan. If said plan also involves posting deliberately misleading photos of their summer adventures together, well, who could blame them?

But it’s all just for show, of course, because there’s no way Daphne would actually start her new chapter by falling in love with her ex-fiancé’s new fiancée’s ex... right?]]>

Very fast paced, well written, and very interesting. I didn’t know it was based on real events until the authors note at the end but honestly that made me even more curious about the true story. I genuinely empathize with the prince while understanding that his actions were unforgivable mental health is still so misunderstood. However back to the story I was so engaged the entire time and could not predict where we were going and definitely not the result. I like that there were romantic elements to it but that it didn’t throw off investigation cause that’s something that really frustrates me in books. The politics of the palace was also interesting to read about. Overall very very interesting book highly recommend!!!!

This book actually gave me similar vibes to daughter of the moon goddess!! I was hooked so fast but the romance was more slow burn and the plot was more intricate and a bit more gothic then full force fairytale mythology but still just as beautiful. I loved the main character and her journey to accept that she can be seen and loved as herself as well as all the complications that came with that journey. I think that starting where we did and then getting more of the backstory and future plot was absolutely perfect and I can’t wait to see what comes next!!!

Daughters of Sparta 57423631 For millennia, men have told the legend of the woman whose face launched a thousand ships--but now it's time to hear her side of the story. Daughters of Sparta is a tale of secrets, love, and tragedy from the women behind mythology's most devastating war, the infamous Helen and her sister Klytemnestra.

As princesses of Sparta, Helen and Klytemnestra have known nothing but luxury and plenty. With their high birth and unrivaled beauty, they are the envy of all of Greece. But such privilege comes at a cost. While still only girls, the sisters are separated and married to foreign kings of their father's choosing--the powerful Agamemnon, and his brother Menelaos. Yet even as Queens, each is only expected to do two things: birth an heir and embody the meek, demure nature that is expected of women.

But when the weight of their husbands' neglect, cruelty, and ambition becomes too heavy to bear, Helen and Klytemnestra must push against the constraints of their society to carve new lives for themselves, and in doing so, make waves that will ripple throughout the next three thousand years.

Daughters of Sparta is a vivid and illuminating reimagining of the Siege of Troy, told through the perspectives of two women whose voices have been ignored for far too long.

Required reading for fans of Circe, and a remarkable, thrilling debut.

Clytemnestra 61361681 For fans of Madeline Miller's Circe, a stunning debut following Clytemnestra, the most notorious villainess of the ancient world and the events that forged her into the legendary queen.

As for queens, they are either hated or forgotten. She already knows which option suits her best...

You were born to a king, but you marry a tyrant. You stand by helplessly as he sacrifices your child to placate the gods. You watch him wage war on a foreign shore, and you comfort yourself with violent thoughts of your own. Because this was not the first offence against you. This was not the life you ever deserved. And this will not be your undoing. Slowly, you plot.

But when your husband returns in triumph, you become a woman with a choice.

Acceptance or vengeance, infamy follows both. So, you bide your time and force the gods' hands in the game of retribution. For you understood something long ago that the others never did.

If power isn't given to you, you have to take it for yourself.

A blazing novel set in the world of Ancient Greece for fans of Jennifer Saint and Natalie Haynes, this is a thrilling tale of power and prophecies, of hatred, love, and of an unforgettable Queen who fiercely dealt out death to those who wronged her.]]>

My initially higher review was absolutely influenced by the fact that I relate to the FMC but also the MMC is amazing!! I liked this book a lot more than I thought that I would and despite it being in the romance genre I found myself focused more on the election campaign and how she influenced public opinion. Alexis’s character development was absolutely beautiful and I loved what she ended up using the campaign to do as well as how her story ended. I like stories that can develop the relationship as well the individuals because they both grew (although it’s more obvious with Alexis) through these events.

How can I give this book more than 5 stars? I cannot describe how just incredible this book was. It definitely leaned more into the fantasy elements than the first book did as well as build on the relationships formed which I thought was just masterfully done. I adored everything about this book and I cannot believe I have to live in a world where Roman Kitt is fictional and I can’t be best friends with Iris and Attie and Tobias. The writing is so descriptive and immersive that you feel like you are there with them living the situations, seeing the places and feeling all the emotions the characters are feeling. This is one of those stories that will stick with you long after you finish it and I cannot recommend it enough!

The Shadow of Perseus 61240284 Danae: Banished from her homeland thanks to a prophecy foretelling that her unborn child will one day cause the death of her father, the king of Argos, Danae finds herself stranded, pregnant, and alone in a remote fishing village. It's a harsh new world for a young woman who grew up as a coddled princess, and forging a new life for herself and for her young son Perseus will be the hardest thing she's ever done.

Medusa: As a member of a reclusive band of women who live deep in the woods, known as the Gorgons, Medusa has eschewed all contact with the outside world. That is, until the day she finds an injured boy named Perseus in the forest.

Andromeda: When a harsh sandstorm threatens to destroy her nomadic desert tribe's way of life, Andromeda knows that a sacrifice will be required to appease the gods and end the storm. But when a forceful young Perseus interferes, Andromeda's life is set on an entirely new path.

As Perseus becomes increasingly obsessed with the promise of his own destiny, his heroic journey casts a shadow of violence and destruction across all three women's lives. But even as he tries to silence them, the women may find that reclaiming their voices is their only hope for lifting themselves into a better future.

Nationally bestselling author of Daughters of Sparta Claire Heywood returns with an imaginative and female-centered reinterpretation of the myth of the great hero Perseus, told through the voices of three women who are sidelined in the traditional version--his mother, Danae; his trophy, Medusa; and his wife, Andromeda--but whose viewpoints reveal a man who is not, in fact, a hero at all.]]>

This is probably a 4.5 star for now but it’s hard to rate. I have a string emotional attachment to these characters but not as strong as ACOTAR despite liking this series more. This one was disappointing but only because it felt predictable in a way that SJM normally isn’t. It was very reminiscent of past books she’s written which was kind of annoying but understandable In certain parts. I wasn’t as upset about the autumn kings “character destruction that a lot of people point out because despite moments of him showing care I never trusted it because for every moment of hidden care there was 5 revealed of hidden cruelty. He plays both sides until he finds the one that serves him best and that was never the side of his children cause he never thought they were enough. There was also a lot of Bryce slander which again to an extent I get because in the original world of the fae (Velaris) she wasn’t great to them and she wasn’t the most understanding to Hunt. However no one was very open with each other in Velaris and they openly said to her (If I’m remembering correctly) that they weren’t going to let her go back to her world and risk the asteri coming back to their world. They were going to keep her from her brother and mate who were being tortured, from her friends and family who have risked so much and are in danger to keep themselves safe which is valid in their perspective but in Bryce’s POV she’s going to do whatever she has to to get home. If you put Rhys in her place he would’ve killed anyone who tried to stop him from going after Feyre and I doubt anyone would’ve said anything but I think everyone is more attached to ACOTAR characters which understandable so they’re seeing it more from their side. I still really enjoyed this book and seeing a lot of the callbacks to TOG and potential paths for the future of ACOTAR. I’m disappointed that SJM didn’t do more with the crossover elements but there is still potential to continue crossing over and we don’t know where she’ll continue.

I saw someone (I think Destiny Sidwell) say that this book felt like a filler book and even when I finished I said that this book felt like one that you’ll enjoy more once you have the next one.

4.5 Stars!!! Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful! Absolutely heartbreaking and I was sobbing majority of the time (I listened to the audiobook at work which made the sobbing very awkward cause people kept walking by). The found family was beautifully written and I loved reading about their adventures and watching them cope, live, and grow together. I understand why some people felt that there was too much effort for quote worthy material but honestly it wasn’t that bad and I actually enjoyed it for the most part. I actually found it quite fitting once you understand the characters.

I think that the way she processed Vincent’s death slowly throughout this book as well as accepting that he wasn’t the man she thought he was but she still loves him anyways was just magnificent. Raihn being that ever present supporter for her journey and pushing her where necessary was perfection and even her snapping at him for forcing her to kill him because he couldn’t kill her perfection. This book was just so good. I’m excited to see how they handle ruling together as their lives are now intertwined and so are their people. I can’t wait to see how they handle a goddess coming after them in the future as well as whatever Septimus decides to do.

Six roses. Six vials of blood. Six visits to a vampire who could be her salvation or her damnation.

Lilith has been dying since the day she was born. But while she long ago came to terms with her own imminent death, the deaths of everyone she loves is an entirely different matter. As her town slowly withers in the clutches of a mysterious god-cursed illness, she takes matters into her own hands.

Desperate to find a cure, Lilith strikes a bargain with the only thing the gods hate even more than her village: a vampire, Vale. She offers him six roses in exchange for six vials of vampire blood–the one hope for her town’s salvation.

But when what begins as a simple transaction gradually becomes something more, Lilith is faced with a terrifying realization: It’s dangerous to wander into the clutches of a vampire and in a place already suffering a god’s wrath, more dangerous still to fall in love with one.]]>

The adopted human daughter of the Nightborn vampire king, Oraya carved her place in a world designed to kill her. Her only chance to become something more than prey is entering the Kejari: a legendary tournament held by the goddess of death herself.

Everything about Raihn is dangerous. He is a ruthless vampire, an efficient killer, an enemy to her father’s crown and her greatest competition. Yet, what terrifies Oraya most of all is that she finds herself oddly drawn to him.

But there’s no room for compassion in the Kejari. War for the House of Night brews, shattering everything that Oraya thought she knew about her home. There were so many twists in this book I couldn’t predict anything. I love every insight that the thunderheads perspective adds in this book. Watching everyone’s mentality shift and decide whether or not to stick to their core beliefs. It’s also interesting how the story can focus so wholly on both a persons humanity and the way Ai can grow and affect society That ending threw me for a loop I literally could not put it down despite the fact that I should’ve been asleep 2 hours ago.

Not gonna lie feeling kinda empty after that. Sam’s death killed me and I even had warning that it was coming and could see warning bells from a mile away. I was able to predict a lot of the betrayal and could see the foreshadowed death and some of the behind the scenes deals that played out before the happened (still thought they worked well with the story and were believable because the MC is only 16 and still learning) but I still felt the emotions. Rating this one was kind of hard because afterwards I really felt what she felt which was pretty much nothing. I felt kind of numb for a little bit which I guess is a sign of good writing. I felt the story with the healer was meant to show some character development as well as foreshadow her finding the good in leaving to grow however I didn’t care for it much and found it kind of boring. Overall really liked it and I’m excited to continue with the series.

In Five Years 50093704 Where do you see yourself in five years?

When Type-A Manhattan lawyer Dannie Kohan is asked this question at the most important interview of her career, she has a meticulously crafted answer at the ready. Later, after nailing her interview and accepting her boyfriend's marriage proposal, Dannie goes to sleep knowing she is right on track to achieve her five-year plan.

But when she wakes up, she’s suddenly in a different apartment, with a different ring on her finger, and beside a very different man. The television news is on in the background, and she can just make out the scrolling date. It’s the same night—December 15—but 2025, five years in the future.

After a very intense, shocking hour, Dannie wakes again, at the brink of midnight, back in 2020. She can’t shake what has happened. It certainly felt much more than merely a dream, but she isn’t the kind of person who believes in visions. That nonsense is only charming coming from free-spirited types, like her lifelong best friend, Bella. Determined to ignore the odd experience, she files it away in the back of her mind.

That is, until four-and-a-half years later, when by chance Dannie meets the very same man from her long-ago vision.

Brimming with joy and heartbreak, In Five Years is an unforgettable love story that reminds us of the power of loyalty, friendship, and the unpredictable nature of destiny.]]>

4.25 stars!!! This book was absolutely incredible and depicted the more emotional aspects of the fight for justice and the more hidden and darker aspects of rebellion not often spoken about! I absolutely loved every moment in our main characters perspective as she navigates this dangerous undercover situation as well as the complicated feelings that arise throughout her time. I also really enjoyed how this talked about women’s contribution to war and how oftentimes they go unrembered or underappreciated. I think this book is such a fresh take on the war aspect in books and would love to see more of it in books.

I’ve watched this movie many times (and cried each one) and have loved their relationship every time but reading about it was so special. Her death and his subsequent breakdown was absolutely heartbreaking to read but I was really hoping for a longer healing journey but I suppose it’s more accurate for the time it was written
