<![CDATA[The York Patrol: The Real Story of Alvin York and the Unsung Heroes Who Made Him World War I's Most Famous Soldier]]> 53487129
October 8, 1918 was a banner day for heroes of the American Expeditionary Force. Thirteen men performed heroic deeds that would earn them Medals of Honor. Of this group, one man emerged as the single greatest American hero of the Great Alvin Cullum York. A poor young farmer from Tennessee, Sergeant York was said to have single-handedly killed two dozen Germans and captured another 132 of the enemy plus thirty-five machine guns before noon on that fateful Day of Valor. York would become an American legend, celebrated in magazines, books, and a blockbuster biopic starring Gary Cooper. The film, Sergeant York, told of a hell-raiser from backwoods Tennessee who had a come-to-Jesus moment, then wrestled with his newfound Christian convictions to become one of the greatest heroes the U.S. Army had ever known. It was a great story—but not the whole story. In this absorbing history, James Carl Nelson unspools, for the first time, the complete story of Alvin York and the events that occurred in the Argonne Forest on that day. Nelson gives voice, in particular, to the sixteen “others who fought beside York. Hailing from big cities and small towns across the U.S. as well as several foreign countries, these soldiers included a patrician Connecticut farmer whose lineage could be traced back to the American Revolution, a poor runaway from Massachusetts who joined the Army under a false name, and a Polish immigrant who enlisted in hopes of expediting his citizenship. The York Patrol shines a long overdue spotlight on these men and York, and pays homage to their bravery and sacrifice. Illustrated with 25 black-and-white images, The York Patrol is a rousing tale of courage, tragedy, and heroism.]]>

<![CDATA[12 Months to $1 Million: How to Pick a Winning Product, Build a Real Business, and Become a Seven-Figure Entrepreneur]]> 52079141
The word "entrepreneur" is today's favorite buzzword, and any aspiring business owner has likely encountered an overwhelming number of so-called "easy paths to success."

The truth is that building a real, profitable, sustainable business requires thousands of hours of commitment, grit, and hard work. It's no wonder why more than half of new businesses close within six years of opening, and fewer than 5 percent will ever earn more than $1 million annually. 12 Months to $1 Million condenses the startup phase into one fast-paced year that has helped hundreds of new entrepreneurs hit the million-dollar level by using an exclusive and foolproof formula.

By cutting out the noise and providing a clear and proven plan, this roadmap helps even brand-new entrepreneurs make decisions quickly, get their product up for sale, and launch it to a crowd that is ready and waiting to buy.

This one-year plan will guide you through the three stages to your first $1

•The Grind (Months 0-4): This step-by-step plan will help you identify a winning product idea, target customers that are guaranteed to buy, secure funding, and take your first sale within your first four months.
•The Growth (Months 5 - 8): Once you're in business, you will discover how to use cheap and effective advertising strategies to get your product to at least 25 sales per day, so you can prove you have a profitable business.
•The Gold (Months 9-12): It's time to establish series of products available for sale, until you are averaging at least 100 sales per day, getting you closer to the million-dollar mark every single day.

Through his training sessions at Capitalism.com, Ryan Daniel Moran has helped new and experienced entrepreneurs launch scalable and sustainable online businesses. He's seen more than 100 entrepreneurs cross the seven-figure barrier, many of whom go on to sell their businesses.

If your goal is to be a full-time entrepreneur, get ready for one chaotic, stressful, and rewarding year. If you have the guts to complete it, you will be the proud owner of a million-dollar business and be in a position to call your own shots for life.]]>

<![CDATA[Well Aware: Master the Nine Cybersecurity Habits to Protect Your Future]]> 55427835 Key Strategies to Safeguard Your Future

Well Aware offers a timely take on the leadership issues that businesses face when it comes to the threat of hacking. Finney argues that cybersecurity is not a technology problem; it’s a people problem. Cybersecurity should be understood as a series of nine habits that should be mastered—literacy, skepticism, vigilance, secrecy, culture, diligence, community, mirroring, and deception—drawn from knowledge the author has acquired during two decades of experience in cybersecurity. By implementing these habits and changing our behaviors, we can combat most security problems.

This book examines our security challenges using lessons learned from psychology, neuroscience, history, and economics. Business leaders will learn to harness effective cybersecurity techniques in their businesses as well as their everyday lives.]]>

But the Nazis have learned about the meeting and Hitler sees it as his last chance to turn the tide. They have six days to complete the daring assignment before the statesmen will return home. With no margin for error and little time to spare, Mike Reilly, the head of FDR’s Secret Service detail—a man from a Montana silver mining town who describes himself as “an Irish cop with more muscle than brains”—must overcome his suspicions and instincts to work with a Soviet agent from the NKVD (the precursor to the KGB) to save the three most powerful men in the world.

<![CDATA[Hero of the Underground: A Memoir]]> 2838892
How could I be? I lived under death’s shadow every day. When you swallow eighty Vicodin, twenty sleeping pills, drink a bottle of vodka, and still survive, a certain sense of invulnerability stays with you. When you continually use drugs with the kind of reckless determination that I did, the limit to how much heroin or crack you can ingest is not defined in dollar amounts, but in the amounts your body can withstand without experiencing a seizure or respiratory failure. Yet at the end of every binge, every night of lining up six, seven, eight crack pipes and hitting them one after the other bam! bam! bam! every night of smoking and snorting bag after bag of heroin . . . after all of that, when you still wake up to see the same dirty sky over you as the night before, you start to think that instead of dying, maybe your punishment is to live---to be stuck in this purgatory of self-abuse and misery for an eternity. Sometimes you start to think that death would come as a blessed relief.

Toward the end, I found myself contemplating death again. Only this time I wasn’t going to leave it to chance. I was going to buy a gun, load the thing, place the barrel in my mouth, and blow my fucking brains out.

I sat on my parents sofa as I pondered this. All I needed was a gun.

And then all--
of my problems--
would be solved.]]>

<![CDATA[I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell (Tucker Max, #1)]]> 6785615
The new edition, released in September 2015, includes a new 6-pageAfterword that will delight Tucker's fans. In it he describes his life in the 10 years since the book was first published, including his marriage and becoming a dad. His anecdotes are, as always, funny and revealing, told in the unique voice that millions of readers have come to love.

Actual reader feedback:

"I am completely baffled as to how you can congratulate yourself for being a womanizer and a raging drunk, or think anyone cares about an idiot like you. Do you really think that exploiting the insecurities of others while getting wasted is a legitimate thing to offer?"

"Thank you, thank you, thank you--for sharing with us your wonderful tales of drunken revelry, for teaching me what it means to be a man, for just existing so I know that there is another option; I too can say 'screw the system' and be myself and have fun. My life truly began when I finished reading your stories. Now, when faced with a quandary about what course of action I should take, I just ask myself, 'What Would Tucker Do?'--and I do it, and I am a better man for it."

"I find it truly appalling that there are people in the world like you. You are a disgusting, vile, repulsive, repugnant, foul creature. Because of you, I don't believe in God anymore. No just God would allow someone like you to exist."

"I'll stay with God as my lord, but you are my savior. I just finished reading your brilliant stories, and I laughed so hard I almost vomited. I want to bring that kind of joy to people. You're an artist of the highest order and a true humanitarian to boot. I'm in both shock and awe at how much I want to be you."

"You are the coolest person I can even imagine existing. If you slept with my girlfriend, it'd make me love her more."]]>

<![CDATA[Why We Suck: A Feel Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid]]> 6185977
One of America’s most original and biting comic satirists, Denis Leary takes on all the poseurs, politicians, and pop culture icons who have sucked in public for far too long. Sparing no one, Leary zeroes in on the ridiculous wherever he finds it—his Irish Catholic upbringing, the folly of celebrity, the pressures of family life, and the great hypocrisy of politics—with the same bright, savage, and profane insight he brought to his critically acclaimed one-man shows No Cure for Cancer Lock ’n Load .

Proudly Irish-American, defiantly working class, with a reserve of compassion for the underdog and the overlooked, Leary delivers blistering diatribes that are both penetrating social commentary with no holds barred and laugh-out-loud funny. As always, Leary’s impassioned comic perspective in Why We Suck is right on target.

Leary is the star and co-creator of the Emmy-nominated television show Rescue Me .

<![CDATA[The Meaning of Finding Coins: Messages and Spiritual Insights]]> 36632881 /book/show/4...

Have you ever wondered if there was a message or a "sign" being offered by the coins you find on the ground?

In this heartwarming book of true stories, written with the intention to share love, wonder and divine connection, angelic guides provide spiritual insight and the messages offered by a “found coin.

From the cover: What if the simple act of picking up a coin could begin a heavenly conversation so mystical that it altered the way you view life?

That is what happened to this author. In 2010, Kimberly Ahri began to find coins everywhere—every single day. This curious experience lasted for weeks, prompting her to pray for guidance and ask the question, "Is there meaning in finding coins?"

The answer changed her life and initiated a wonder-filled journey that infused her spirit with hope during some of her most challenging times with Lyme Disease and chronic illness. Her journey also revealed spiritual insights and messages in the coins sure to help anyone feel more connected to the divine in life.

This book is an answer to her calling: To share the information given to her so others may experience the same sense of encouragement and wonder.

What if you could enter into a divine conversation that would give you a sense of love, reassurance, and comfort—every single time you find a coin?

You can. And you've already been invited.

A little from the inside:

This book is the result of one long chain of events. I experienced interesting encounters with random coins and I began to talk to others about what had been happening. When I brought up the subject to those who’d already had their own unique coin encounter, they smiled at me knowingly, eyes twinkling, eager to talk about it, like we were part of some special club.

Then, I wrote a post on the subject and put it on my blog. The post turned out to be some type of energetic call sent into the Universe to expand my awareness on the subject. (I later learned that I’d opened up what my guides call “an energetic pathway.)

I began to record the information that was being “downloaded to me with the inkling it was meant to be a book. The “download was not just about coins. In addition to the meanings and possible reasons that people start to find coins in ways that are just plain hard to ignore, there was also an interesting blend of spiritual insight.

Some of the reasons people find coins you've probably heard of. Some of the reasons will surprise you...]]>

<![CDATA[The Relationship Economy: Building Stronger Customer Connections in the Digital Age]]> 53115617 Creating Authentic Customer Connections in a High-Tech World

In The Relationship Economy, author John DiJulius teaches business leaders about the importance of relationship building in the digital age. He argues that in spite of (and because of) the advances in tech, we've become a less connected society. We have dramatically evolved away from face-to-face communication, and the skill of building rapport is evaporating. This means that customer personalization and relationships are more important now than ever—and they will be the key to success for businesses moving forward. As he aptly states, “Being able to build true sustainable relationships is the biggest competitive advantage in a world where automation, artificial intelligence, and machine learning are eliminating the human experience, which is what creates the emotional connections that build true customer loyalty. This book reminds readers of the importance of personal connections and shows them how to attain meaningful, lasting relationships with their customers.]]>

<![CDATA[That Wild Country: An Epic Journey through the Past, Present, and Future of America's Public Lands]]> 53043941 From prominent outdoorsman and nature writer Mark Kenyon comes an engrossing reflection on the past and future battles over our most revered landscapes—America’s public lands.

Every American is a public-land owner, inheritor to the largest public-land trust in the world. These vast expanses provide a home to wildlife populations, a vital source of clean air and water, and a haven for recreation.

Since its inception, however, America’s public land system has been embroiled in controversy—caught in the push and pull between the desire to develop the valuable resources the land holds or conserve them. Alarmed by rising tensions over the use of these lands, hunter, angler, and outdoor enthusiast Mark Kenyon set out to explore the spaces involved in this heated debate, and learn firsthand how they came to be and what their future might hold.

Part travelogue and part historical examination, That Wild Country invites readers on an intimate tour of the wondrous wild and public places that are a uniquely profound and endangered part of the American landscape.

<![CDATA[#GOSPEL: Life, Hope, and Truth for Generation Now]]> 34733838 After that, the filter kicks in.

In our day and age, five to ten seconds is usually all the time we’re given to persuade someone that what we have to say is worthy of his or her time. You and I live in a world suffering from a relentless bombardment of information. Television, social media, advertising, acquaintances, friends, and family all vie for time and an attentive ear. If we don’t adapt and learn to filter out what we believe does not apply to us, we quickly become overwhelmed. In this new world of burst communication, our presentation of this Gospel needs to be adapted as well, and while it’s critically important that the content remain unchanged, the style and vehicle in which it is delivered must fit the culture it reaches. Through current cultural references and true stories, Daniel Rice, founder of #Gospel, will help you come to see the gospel for what it really is and how it can radically alter your everyday life. Rice invites you into the conversation as he breaks down Paul’s explanation of the gospel in Romans in a way that is accessible and engaging. Hash-tagging (#) a term invites others to join an open conversation and adds the author’s thoughts to our modern-day global exchange of ideas. This is the heart of #Gospel.

Welcome to the conversation.]]>

Joy of Cooking 43822015 In the nearly ninety years since Irma S. Rombauer self-published the first three thousand copies of Joy of Cooking in 1931, it has become the kitchen bible, with more than 20 million copies in print. This new edition of Joy has been thoroughly revised and expanded by Irma’s great-grandson John Becker and his wife, Megan Scott.

John and Megan developed more than six hundred new recipes for this edition, tested and tweaked thousands of classic recipes, and updated every section of every chapter to reflect the latest ingredients and techniques available to today’s home cooks. Their strategy for revising this edition was the same one Irma and Marion employed: Vet, research, and improve Joy’s coverage of legacy recipes while introducing new dishes, modern cooking techniques, and comprehensive information on ingredients now available at farmers markets and grocery stores.

You will find tried-and-true favorites like Banana Bread Cockaigne, Chocolate Chip Cookies, and Southern Corn Bread—all retested and faithfully improved—as well as new favorites like Chana Masala, Beef Rendang, Megan’s Seeded Olive Oil Granola, and Smoked Pork Shoulder. In addition to a thoroughly modernized vegetable chapter, there are many more vegan and vegetarian recipes, including Caramelized Tamarind Tempeh, Crispy Pan-Fried Tofu, Spicy Chickpea Soup, and Roasted Mushroom Burgers. Joy’s baking chapters now include gram weights for accuracy, along with a refreshed lineup of baked goods like Cannelés de Bordeaux, Rustic No-Knead Sourdough, Ciabatta, Chocolate-Walnut Babka, and Chicago-Style Deep-Dish Pizza, as well as gluten-free recipes for pizza dough and yeast breads.

A new chapter on streamlined cooking explains how to economize time, money, and ingredients and avoid waste. You will learn how to use a diverse array of ingredients, from amaranth to za’atar. New techniques include low-temperature and sous vide cooking, fermentation, and cooking with both traditional and electric pressure cookers. Barbecuing, smoking, and other outdoor cooking methods are covered in even greater detail.

This new edition of Joy is the perfect combination of classic recipes, new dishes, and indispensable reference information for today’s home cooks. Whether it is the only cookbook on your shelf or one of many, Joy is and has been the essential and trusted guide for home cooks for almost a century. This new edition continues that legacy.]]>

<![CDATA[Quench: Beat Fatigue, Drop Weight, and Heal Your Body Through the New Science of Optimum Hydration]]> 36341662

Chronic headaches, brain fog, fatigue, weight gain, insomnia, gut pain, autoimmune conditions. We may think these and other all-too-common modern maladies are due to gluten intake or too much sugar or too little exercise. But there is another missing piece to the health Proper hydration.

Yes, even in this era of Poland Spring many of us are dehydrated due to moisture-lacking diets, artificial environments, medications, and over-dependence on water as our only source of hydration. For this reason, that new diet or exercise plan may fail because our body doesn't have enough moisture to support it.

Quench presents a wellness routine that can reverse all of that, based on breakthrough new science in the field of hydration. Readers will be surprised to learn that drinking too much water can flush out vital nutrients and electrolytes. Here is where "gel water" comes the water from plants (like cucumber, berries, aloe), which our bodies are designed to truly absorb right down to the cellular level. In fact, Ms. Bria's work as an anthropologist led her to the realization that desert people stay hydrated almost exclusively from what they eat, including gel plants like cactus.

Based on groundbreaking science from the University of Washington's Pollack Water Lab and other research, Quench offers a five-day jump start hydrating meal plans and the heart of the program, smoothies and elixirs using the most hydrating and nutrient-packed plants. Another unique feature of their approach is micro-movements -- small, simple movements you can make a few times a day that will move water through your fascia, the connective tissue responsible for hydrating our bodies. You will experience more energy, focus, and better digestion within five days . . . then move onto the lifetime plan for continued improvements, even elimination of symptoms.]]>

<![CDATA[Rivals Unto Death: Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr]]> 31111140
The famous duel between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr was the culmination of a story three decades in the making. Rivals unto Death vividly traces their rivalry back to the earliest days of the American Revolution, when Hamilton and Burr -- both brilliant, restless, and barely twenty years old -- elbowed their way onto the staff of General George Washington. The fast-moving account traces their intricate tug-of war, uncovering surprising details that led to their deadly encounter through battlefields, courtrooms, bedrooms, and the wildest presidential election in history, counting down the years to their fateful rendezvous on the dueling ground.

This is politics made shrill accusations, bruising collisions, and a parade of flesh and blood founders struggling--and often failing--to keep their tempers and jealousies in check. Smoldering in the background was a fundamental political divide that threatened to tear the new nation in two, and still persists to this day.

The Burr and Hamilton that leap out of these pages are passionate, engaging, and utterly human characters inextricably linked together as Rivals unto Death.]]>

I am a history buff, and this is a part of American history that always draws my interest. It was fun to read a book that was not a puff piece or just played off the current "Hamilton" fandom from the play. What I liked about this book was that it showed the human side of some of our most famous founding fathers and at times made you think differently about some of the more revered ones (Washington, Jefferson). The political meandering and slander was very reminiscent of modern day politics. The biggest difference being that today, hot heads just go to twitter to rant whereas back then it more often than not ended in a duel. Honor is a crazy thing, but men back then viewed it much differently than today.

A very good read and one that will not disappoint the reader.

<![CDATA[Scars of Independence: America's Violent Birth]]> 31453065 A magisterial new work that rewrites the story of America’s founding

The American Revolution is often portrayed as an orderly, restrained rebellion, with brave patriots defending their noble ideals against an oppressive empire. It’s a stirring narrative, and one the founders did their best to encourage after the war. But as historian Holger Hoock shows in this deeply researched and elegantly written account of America’s founding, the Revolution was not only a high-minded battle over principles, but also a profoundly violent civil war—one that shaped the nation, and the British Empire, in ways we have only begun to understand.

In Scars of Independence, Hoock writes the violence back into the story of the Revolution. American Patriots persecuted and tortured Loyalists. British troops massacred enemy soldiers and raped colonial women. Prisoners were starved on disease-ridden ships and in subterranean cells. African-Americans fighting for or against independence suffered disproportionately, and Washington’s army waged a genocidal campaign against the Iroquois. In vivid, authoritative prose, Hoock’s new reckoning also examines the moral dilemmas posed by this all-pervasive violence, as the British found themselves torn between unlimited war and restraint toward fellow subjects, while the Patriots documented war crimes in an ingenious effort to unify the fledgling nation.

For two centuries we have whitewashed this history of the Revolution. Scars of Independence forces a more honest appraisal, revealing the inherent tensions between moral purpose and violent tendencies in America’s past. In so doing, it offers a new origins story that is both relevant and necessary—an important reminder that forging a nation is rarely bloodless.]]>

<![CDATA[The Culture Question: How to Create a Workplace Where People Like to Work]]> 43575345
The authors of this book believe that people should be able to like where they work. When employees like the places they work, it’s not only good for their mental health and well-being, it’s also good for their organizations both financially and otherwise. When a workplace culture is purposely created to be respectful and inspiring, employees are happier, more productive, and more engaged.

By exploring six key elements that make up a healthy workplace culture, The Culture Question answers two fundamental questions: “How does your organization’s culture impact how much people like where they work? and “What can you do to make it better?

Discover how to create a workplace where people like to work by focusing on these six elements of healthy workplace culture:

Communicating Your Purpose and Values. Employees are inspired when they work in organizations whose purpose and values resonate with them.

Providing Meaningful Work. Most employees want to work on projects that inspire them, align with what they are good at, and allow them to grow.

Focusing Your Leadership Team on People. How leaders relate to their employees plays a major role in how everyone feels about their workplace.

Building Meaningful Relationships. When employees like the people they work with and for, they are more satisfied and more engaged in their work.

Creating Peak Performing Teams. People are energized when they work together effectively because teams achieve things that no one person could do on their own.

Practicing Constructive Conflict Management. When leaders don’t handle conflict promptly and well, it quickly sours the workplace.

This book includes survey feedback from over 2,400 leaders and employees and resources for putting these ideas into action.]]>

<![CDATA[Don't Be Afraid of Accounting: Learn the Basics of Financial Accouting and Be on Your Way to Greater Success!]]> 48668990 I believe that anyone can learn accounting; it’s really not that hard. If you aren’t an accountant by trade, if you don’t consider yourself a math person, or if you think accounting is just too complex to learn, then I encourage you to read this book. I think you will find that accounting can actually be simple and easy once you learn how to approach it and once you learn the building blocks of the subject through financial statement preparation and analysis.

I’ve spent the past seven years teaching both financial and managerial accounting at the collegiate level. If you want or need to learn accounting, then you need to first know the basics of financial accounting and know them well in order to build a solid foundational knowledge that will equip you to learn the more advanced topics in the field.

No matter where you are in life or your career, I can help you learn the basics of financial accounting, which can set you up for greater success in accounting and beyond. For years, I have been helping people do exactly this.

How Accounting Can Benefit You
First, accounting is virtually a recession proof field because even in bad times, companies still have to keep track of their finances. Even in economic downturns, accountants are still needed. Furthermore, not only is accounting pretty much recession proof, but accountants are almost always in demand. At the college where I teach, we frequently get requests from employers looking to hire students to fill bookkeeping and accounting positions. Even better, accountants (especially certified public accountants) usually make pretty solid money. What’s not to love about making money and being in demand?

Why This Book Can Help You Learn Accounting
Most accounting books, classes, seminars, and trainings start with the accounting equation and then start having you analyze transactions. I take a different approach. I believe it’s crucial to start from the ground up before you start analyzing the accounting equation and transactions. This is so because after teaching this subject for years, I’ve witnessed firsthand what works and what doesn’t. For the non-accountants and non-math people, starting out too complex and too fast (as most accounting material generally does) tends to create confusion and frustration. Worse, such an approach can turn people away from learning accounting altogether.

I teach accounting in plain language for the non-accountant and accountant alike. I also teach it from the perspective of putting together the pieces of a puzzle rather than from a sophisticated academic perspective, which makes this material much easier to learn. In this book, I simply explain the basics of accounting in easy to understand terms in a manner that makes learning it easy.

About The Author

I’ve spent the past fifteen plus years performing some of the most complex and complicated accounting work that there is. On top of this, as noted above, I’ve spent the past seven years teaching accounting part-time at the collegiate level. As a CPA and a CFE, I love teaching accounting and helping people learn new skills and concepts that will benefit them and help advance their careers.

Start learning accounting today and be on your way to bigger and greater successes. Scroll up and get your copy.]]>

<![CDATA[Indestructible: The Unforgettable Memoir of a Marine Hero at the Battle of Iwo Jima]]> 45449823 Medal of Honor recipient Jack H. Lucas’s classic memoir of his heroics at the Battle of Iwo Jima—with a foreword by Bob Dole and reissued to coincide with the 75thanniversary of the battle in 2020.

On February 20, 1945, the second day of the assault on Iwo Jima—one of the bloodiest battles of the Pacific theater in World War II—Private Jack Lucas, who was only seventeen, and three other Marines engaged in a close-proximity firefight with Japanese soldiers. When two enemy grenades landed in their trench, Lucas jumped on one and pulled the other under his body to save the lives of his comrades. Lucas was blown into the air as his body was torn apart by 250 entrance wounds. He was so severely wounded that his team left him for dead. Miraculously, he survived.

While on the hospital ship Samaritan, his spirit soared to see the American flag flying atop Mount Suribachi—the same flag immortalized in Joe Rosenthal’s iconic photograph, Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima. Lucas endured twenty-one grueling surgeries and carried 200 pieces of shrapnel in his body for the rest of his life. Awarded the Medal of Honor, he became the youngest Marine in U.S. history—and the youngest of all World War II servicemen—to receive the honor.

Indestructible tells the remarkable story of an extraordinary American possessed with a fierce determination to serve his country.]]>

<![CDATA[Are We There Yet?: Unlocking The Secret To Jesus' Return]]> 37598221 - Are you aware that the civil calendar we are using is really less than 270 years old?
- Has anyone told you that Adam only left the garden of Eden in 3760 BC?

Many people proclaim we are living in the end of times. But are we?

When I first started the journey to discover the return of Christ, I shared the conventional beliefs that Jesus will indeed return very soon. My views have been forever altered when the Holy Spirit revealed to me new insights.

In my easy-to-read style, I will show you that the Bible is in fact a recipe for Jesus return. In Are We There Yet? I will answer the above as well as other thought-provoking questions
•Will Christians face persecution?
•Will America disintegrate?
* Can we delay the second coming of Jesus?

In God’s timing, once these key ingredients are gathered and stirred, the dish, 'The Day of the Lord', will be served, whether we’re ready or not.

<![CDATA[Nuking the Moon: And Other Intelligence Schemes and Military Plots Left on the Drawing Board]]> 41544719
In 1958, the U.S. Air Force nuked the moon as a show of military force. In 1967, the CIA sent live cats to spy on the Soviet government. In 1942, the British built a torpedo-proof aircraft carrier out of an iceberg. Of course, none of these things ever actually happened.

But in Nuking the Moon, intelligence historian Vince Houghton proves that abandoned plans can be just as illuminating--and every bit as entertaining--as the ones that made it. Vividly capturing the fascinating stories of how twenty-one plans from WWII and the Cold War went from conception, planning, and testing to cancellation, Houghton explores what happens when innovation meets desperation: For every plan as good as D-Day, there's a scheme to strap bombs to bats or dig a spy tunnel underneath the Soviet embassy. Along the way, he reveals what each one tells us about twentieth-century history, the art of spycraft, military strategy, and famous figures like JFK, Castro, and Churchill. By turns terrifying and hilarious--but always riveting--this is the unique story of history left on the drawing board.]]>

I AM Not Amused 44279024 Non-critical Involvement
 Total Separation
I AM Not Amused is about learning to balance being in the world, but not of the world. Throughout this book, we will learn how to weigh our involvement in pop culture against our call to be holy, using the popular arts as a springboard to reach lost people in the world. We also gain an understanding of what is at stake if we continue consuming Hollywood productions without thinking about the consequences. This book is a journey through the early days of media including the history of ratings, propaganda, and some of the legal matters impacting the entertainment industry as a whole. Finally we learn about the steps we should take to evaluate our own entertainment.

In brief summary, I first explain my purpose and motivation for writing this book as I journey through my adolescence in a media-saturated home. I talk about how music, movies, and video games shaped my life both for the better and the worse as I was raised in a home without boundaries.

The next two chapters examine whether or not media entertainment can actually impact us as we consume music, movies, and video games. Rather than take a usual Christian approach, we see what the artists and producers themselves say including quotes from Michael Greene, George Lucus, Marilyn Manson, and more. After examining how we can be impacted we see specifically what artists themselves say about the message behind the content they produce. This section does a deep dive into the messages behind Manson, George Harrison, and Insane Clown Posse among others.

After seeing what the entertainment industry produces, we tour through the Bible looking for what God’s Word has to say about media, our involvement, and our purpose. We start with a call to letting our minds dwell on holy things, then living out our life as a believer rather than a member of the world. Finally we address the two critical errors highlighting the benefits and pitfalls of each as we develop a plan to live better before God in our media-saturated times.

After a brief detour through the struggles of addiction including steps to overcome besetting sins, we provide steps for believers to incorporate into their lives to determine if certain forms of amusement are profitable for us to consume.
All together, this book is a guide to interacting with Media Entertainment for our amusement, and for our engagement with the world as we seek to fulfill the Great Commission.

<![CDATA[Upward, Inward, Outward: Love God, Love Yourself, Love Others]]> 34593656
This is the art of living Jesus spirituality.

God gives us the key in the Greatest Commandment, but we’ve got to do this stuff in the right order. Imagine I invite you to my sweet cabin by the lake. To start hanging out in that cabin, you need to get the key from me, pack your car, follow the GPS, and so on. There’s a natural order to it. It’s the same with the Greatest Commandment.

We begin upward, with loving God. The God. God of the Old Testament, God of the New Testament. God the Trinity―Father, Son, Holy Spirit. We continue inward, with understanding our true identities in Jesus. And when we get those things right, God’s Spirit sends us outward, on mission into the world.

These three movements―upward, inward, and outward―mirror the Greatest Commandment and help us learn the art of living harmoniously together in a chaotic world.]]>

God: A Human History 34051386
But this projection is not without consequences. We bestow upon God not just all that is good in human nature our compassion, our thirst for justice but all that is bad in it: our greed, our bigotry, our penchant for violence. All these qualities inform our religions, cultures, and governments.

More than just a history of our understanding of God, this book is an attempt to get to the root of this humanizing impulse in order to develop a more universal spirituality. Whether you believe in one God, many gods, or no god at all, God: A Human History will challenge the way you think about the divine and its role in our everyday lives.]]>

<![CDATA[Rescuing America's Democracy From Its Collapsing Morality]]> 29493397
But there was something extraordinary about America. It was a harsh, untamed frontier that required of its inhabitants cooperation and hard work for survival, but more importantly the early settlers brought with them a radical new view of human nature. Like so many of that era they were driven by the belief that humanity had a destiny to lead a moral life, but unlike most, they proclaimed that the ordinary people, without the aid of ritual or relics or a prince or a priesthood class, could ascertain for themselves the path to a moral life. They asserted that this could be achieved, not only by their own reading and interpreting of the bible, but also by leading a life in which they fully developed their abilities and used those abilities to improve both the spiritual and material welfare of society. This required individuals to work hard, control their passions, and allocate time to helping others. They were an educated, literate, ethical people in a state of personal self-governance and they translated this personal attribute into a society of self-governance, thus making democratic America, against all odds, a resounding success.

But it is this very success and the world’s emulation of it that has caused many, particularly the intellectuals, in modern secular America to view democracy as the natural state of our species, a state to which all societies will eventually, spontaneously progress. Hence, these people disparage America as being nothing extraordinary in human history, just an accident in time that any country given the right physical environment could have accomplished. They spout the belief that the desire to be free to control one’s destiny, that enlightened self-interest, is sufficient to provoke people to make the sacrifices necessary to maintain a democracy. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is pursuit of freedom and self-interest that motivates the tyrant to exterminate all those who oppose him. It is pursuit of freedom and self-interest that motivates the criminal to kill and steal.

For our democracy to survive, a majority of the ordinary people must feel and act upon the belief that was held by the early settlers of America that is that humanity has a more noble purpose than mere self-gratification. They must believe that humankind has a moral destiny to develop their abilities not only for the betterment of the individual, but also, for the alleviation of human misery throughout society. They must accept that this requires not only compassion, but hard work and self-discipline. Although we should recognize that religion has been important in promoting these desirable qualities, America is a secular, pluralistic society that cannot, and should not, return to being principally dependent upon religion to achieve these ends. It needs to buttress the promotion of these qualities through government programs that, not only help the needy, but hold people more accountable to one another and through civic organizations that encourage people to work together for the common good. Lastly, for America’s democracy to survive, we must appreciate how antithetical hard work, self-discipline, and compassion are to the much stronger instincts of pursuit of power and pleasure and because of this how extraordinary and tenuous America’s existence is. In this book, practical policies promoting these objectives in seventeen areas of American life are presented.]]>

<![CDATA[The Lion of Sabray: The Afghan Warrior Who Defied the Taliban and Saved the Life of Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell]]> 25110926
Bestselling author Patrick Robinson helped Marcus Luttrell bring his harrowing story of survival in Lone The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10 to the page and the big screen. But the Afghani man who saved his life was always shrouded in mystery. Now, with The Lion of Sabray , Robinson reveals the amazing backstory of Mohammed Gulab—the brave man who forever changed the course of life for his Afghan family, his village, and himself when he discovered Luttrell badly injured and barely conscious on a mountainside in the Hindu Kush just hours after the firefight that killed the rest of Luttrell’s team.

Operating under the 2,000-year-old principles of Pashtunwali —the tribal honor code that guided his life—Gulab refused to turn Luttrell over to the Taliban forces that were hunting him, believing it was his obligation to protect and care for the American soldier. Because Gulab was a celebrated Mujahedeen field commander and machine-gunner who beat back the Soviets as a teenager, the Taliban were wary enough that they didn’t simply storm the village and take Luttrell, which gave Gulab time to orchestrate his rescue.

In addition to Gulab’s brave story, The Lion of Sabray cinematically reveals previously unknown details of Luttrell’s rescue by American forces—which were only recently declassified—and sheds light on the ramifications for Gulab, his family, and his community. Going beyond both the book and the movie versions of Lone Survivor , The Lion of Sabray is a must-read for anyone who wants to know more about the brave man who helped the Lone Survivor make it home.]]>

<![CDATA[Objective Troy: A Terrorist, a President, and the Rise of the Drone]]> 25241648 Objective Troy tells the gripping and unsettling story of Anwar al-Awlaki, the once-celebrated American imam who called for moderation after 9/11, a man who ultimately directed his outsized talents to the mass murder of his fellow citizens. It follows Barack Obama’s campaign against the excesses of the Bush counterterrorism programs and his eventual embrace of the targeted killing of suspected militants. And it recounts how the president directed the mammoth machinery of spy agencies to hunt Awlaki down in a frantic, multi-million-dollar pursuit that would end with the death of Awlaki by a bizarre, robotic technology that is changing warfare—the drone.
Scott Shane, who has covered terrorism for The New York Times over the last decade, weaves the clash between president and terrorist into both a riveting narrative and a deeply human account of the defining conflict of our era. Awlaki, who directed a plot that almost derailed Obama’s presidency, and then taunted him from his desert hideouts, will go down in history as the first United States citizen deliberately hunted and assassinated by his own government without trial. But his eloquent calls to jihad, amplified by YouTube, continue to lure young Westerners into terrorism—resulting in tragedies from the Boston marathon bombing to the murder of cartoonists at a Paris weekly. Awlaki’s life and death show how profoundly America has been changed by the threat of terrorism and by our own fears.
Illuminating and provocative, and based on years of in depth reporting, Objective Troy is a brilliant reckoning with the moral challenge of terrorism and a masterful chronicle of our times.]]>

<![CDATA[The New New Deal: The Hidden Story of Change in the Obama Era]]> 16130630
Drawing on new documents and interviews with more than 400 sources, award-winning reporter Michael Grunwald reveals the vivid story behind one of the most important and least understood laws in U. S. history, President Obama’s $800 billion stimulus. Grunwald’s New York Times bestseller shows how the politically disastrous stimulus was a real new New Deal, preventing a depression while jumpstarting the president’s ambitious agenda for lasting change. It launched America’s transition to a clean-energy economy, established the boldest education reform in U.S. history, overhauled the nation’s antipoverty programs, and funded the most extensive infrastructure investments since Eisenhower’s interstate highway system. This is the definitive account not only of a transformative law, but of a transformative president’s first term.]]>

What Is Punk? 25074132 -- Kirkus Reviews "Clay artist Yi molds...fantastically detailed Plasticine figures to create scenes of the birth of punk. Using a benign craft-project material for the skinny bodies and ragged clothing of Joey Ramone, Sid Vicious, and their rowdy, fist-waving audiences is very much in the spirit of punk (Plasticine is especially good for mohawks), and readers will spend long stretches inspecting her painstakingly modeled guitars, amplifiers, and safety pins."
-- Publishers Weekly "Why It's Wild: A history of punk music for kids illustrated in Gumby-esque claymation (minus the –mation)."
-- School Library Journal , 100 Scope Notes's "Wildest Children's Books of 2015" " What is Punk? is fun, sophisticated and beautifully illustrated introduction to the music genre for kids--or adults."
-- New York Daily News "Reading What is Punk? to [my kids] made me feel as if I was passing on something truly significant. Morse and Yi have created a comprehensive and articulate...documentary about the roots of punk rock."
-- The Globe and Mail "An essential way to pass down to your son or daughter the lesson that pop culture can be political."
-- The Globe and Mail , 100 Best Books of 2015 "A cool book of punk history for kids by Eric Morse, with great clay illustrations by Anny Yi."
-- Slate , Mom and Dad Are Fighting podcast "Eric Morse's book What Is Punk? explains the envelope-pushing genre to the younger set, and perhaps some adults, as well."
-- St. Louis Public Radio "Think Wallace and Grommet with liberty spikes and anarchy patches...While [Anny Yi's] images of Johnny Rotten and Henry Rollins are cute, they're presented as live action dioramas that are adorable, accurate and engaging."
-- San Diego City Beat "While What Is Punk? is undeniably a children’s book, it can serve as a history lesson for potential fans of any age.... What Is Punk? exposes the reader to the rebellious sub-culture in a friendly, educative manner."
-- Alternative Press "A fun little book intended to serve as (rhyming) curriculum for little punks learning their Punk History 101....Sid, Glenn, and Milo meet Wallace and Gromit."
-- Razorcake "Pairing Yi's Wallace & Gromit-style clay pictorials with Morse's rhyming ride through the history of punk music across the globe, the children’s book is ready to raise the next generation of riot grrrls....You're going to want to give What Is Punk? as a gift at every baby shower this year. Just don't be surprised if your niece ends up bleaching her hair blonde and tearing up her leather jacket at age 6."
-- Bustle "Written by Trampoline House founder Eric Morse in classically Suessical iambic, the book is lusciously illustrated with photographs of Play-Doh recreations of all mommy's and daddy's favorite punk heroes: the Ramones, Iggy and the Stooges--and Debbie Harry, David Byrne, David Johansen, Tom Verlaine, and Lou Reed all standing in front of CBGBs."
-- Bedford & Bowery What Is Punk? is a must-read pop-culture primer for children--an introduction to the punk revolution, recreated in vivid 3-D clay illustrations and told through rhyming couplets. From London's Clash and Sex Pistols to the Ramones' NYC protopunk, from Iggy Pop to the Misfits, this volume depicts some of our culture's seminal moments and iconic characters. A delightful read for kids and parents alike, illustrated in a truly unique visual style, What Is Punk? lays the groundwork for the next generation of little punks.]]>

As a fan of punk music, I really found the idea of a children's book based off punk to be a pretty novel idea. What better way to introduce your child to a great style of music.

The good: Both of my kids have taken to the book, mainly because they love the clay people in it. My 9 year old can read, so he will sit down and actually read the book. So whether they enjoy it because of pictures is irrelevant, they are secretly learning about punk.

The bad: Not really a bad thing but I just kind of wished it had mentioned some more modern bands instead of all the "original" punk bands. Some mention of NOFX, Bad Religion, Pennywise, etc. would have been nice.

All in all a decent little children's book. That I would recommend for any punk out there with little children. It's no better or worse than any other children's book out there. ]]>

Most of us are familiar with the greatest hits and legendary heroes of US history. In George Washington Is Cash Money , Cory O’Brien, author of Zeus Grants Stupid Wishes , does away with the pomp and circumstance and calls America’s history what it one long, violent soap opera. In his signature clever, crude, and cuss-ridden style, O’Brien reminds us

· Teddy Roosevelt stopped bullets with his manly chest
· Harriet Tubman avoided danger by having prophetic seizures.
· Joseph Smith invented Mormonism by staring into a hat full of rocks.
· Billy the Kid was finally defeated by the smell of fresh bacon.

And there’s plenty more Star Spangled stupidity where that came from.]]>

<![CDATA[The Davis Dynasty: Fifty Years of Successful Investing on Wall Street]]> 585137 This compelling new narrative from bestselling author John Rothchild tells the story of three generations of the legendary Davis family, who rank among the most successful investors in the history of the Street. With a novelist's wit and eye for telling detail, Rothchild chronicles the financial escapades of this eccentric, pioneering clan, providing a vivid portrait of fifty years of Wall Street history along the way. Rothchild shadows the Davis family's holdings through two lengthy bull markets, two savage and seven mild bear markets, one crash, and twenty-five corrections and, in the process, reveals the strategies behind the family's uncanny ability to consistently beat the markets.
The Davis Dynasty begins in 1947, the year Shelby Davis quit his job as a state bureaucrat and, armed with $50,000 of his wife's money, took the plunge into stock investing. By the time he died in 1994, he had multiplied his wife's original stake 8,000 times! The story continues with his son, Shelby, who established one of the most successful funds of the past thirty years. The final characters in this enthralling family saga are grandsons Chris and Andrew. Both surrendered to the Davis family passion for investing and both went on to earn reputations as investment luminaries in their own right.

Inferno (Robert Langdon, #4) 17212231 ‘Seek and ye shall find.

With these words echoing in his head, eminent Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon awakes in a hospital bed with no recollection of where he is or how he got there. Nor can he explain the origin of the macabre object that is found hidden in his belongings.

A threat to his life will propel him and a young doctor, Sienna Brooks, into a breakneck chase across the city of Florence. Only Langdon’s knowledge of hidden passageways and ancient secrets that lie behind its historic facade can save them from the clutches of their unknown pursuers.

With only a few lines from Dante’s dark and epic masterpiece, The Inferno, to guide them, they must decipher a sequence of codes buried deep within some of the most celebrated artefacts of the Renaissance sculptures, paintings, buildings to find the answers to a puzzle which may, or may not, help them save the world from a terrifying threat

One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkeness bind them

In ancient times the Rings of Power were crafted by the Elven-smiths, and Sauron, The Dark Lord, forged the One Ring, filling it with his own power so that he could rule all others. But the One Ring was taken from him, and though he sought it throughout Middle-earth, it remained lost to him. After many ages it fell into the hands of Bilbo Baggins, as told in The Hobbit.

In a sleepy village in the Shire, young Frodo Baggins finds himself faced with an immense task, as his elderly cousin Bilbo entrusts the Ring to his care. A devastating new weapon of destruction.
When world-renowned Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is summoned to a Swiss research facility to analyze a mysterious symbol -- seared into the chest of a murdered physicist -- he discovers evidence of the unimaginable: the resurgence of an ancient secret brotherhood known as the Illuminati...the most powerful underground organization ever to walk the earth. The Illuminati has now surfaced to carry out the final phase of its legendary vendetta against its most hated enemy -- the Catholic Church.

Langdon's worst fears are confirmed on the eve of the Vatican's holy conclave, when a messenger of the Illuminati announces they have hidden an unstoppable time bomb at the very heart of Vatican City. With the countdown under way, Langdon jets to Rome to join forces with Vittoria Vetra, a beautiful and mysterious Italian scientist, to assist the Vatican in a desperate bid for survival.
Embarking on a frantic hunt through sealed crypts, dangerous catacombs, deserted cathedrals, and even the most secretive vault on earth, Langdon and Vetra follow a 400-year-old trail of ancient symbols that snakes across Rome toward the long-forgotten Illuminati lair...a clandestine location that contains the only hope for Vatican salvation.

An explosive international thriller, Angels & Demons careens from enlightening epiphanies to dark truths as the battle between science and religion turns to war.]]>

While in Paris on business, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon receives an urgent late-night phone call: the elderly curator of the Louvre has been murdered inside the museum. Near the body, police have found a baffling cipher. While working to solve the enigmatic riddle, Langdon is stunned to discover it leads to a trail of clues hidden in the works of Da Vinci -- clues visible for all to see -- yet ingeniously disguised by the painter.

Langdon joins forces with a gifted French cryptologist, Sophie Neveu, and learns the late curator was involved in the Priory of Sion -- an actual secret society whose members included Sir Isaac Newton, Botticelli, Victor Hugo, and Da Vinci, among others.

In a breathless race through Paris, London, and beyond, Langdon and Neveu match wits with a faceless powerbroker who seems to anticipate their every move. Unless Langdon and Neveu can decipher the labyrinthine puzzle in time, the Priory's ancient secret -- and an explosive historical truth -- will be lost forever.

The Da Vinci Code heralds the arrival of a new breed of lightning-paced, intelligent thriller utterly unpredictable right up to its stunning conclusion.]]>
