I am never disappointed by Ilona Andrews. I was so sad to see that this book finishes the Edge arc, but I hope they'll write more. I love the Edge world. Such imagination, and they paint it so vividly with just a few words. This book has all of the great aspects I expect: wonderful characters who are strong, swashbuckling, and yet vulnerable; adventure; suspense; a noble goal; and tragedy. Loved this book!

This is a gorgeous book filled with wisdom and guidance and most importantly, support. No matter what you're going through in life, you'll find at least one yogi who's been there, done that, and can speak to your challenge. Most importantly, you get the sense that you don't have to be alone--go to a yoga studio and find your tribe. Stephanie's story, that weaves throughout, is so inspiring. I suggest getting the hardcover--it's really a great coffee table book!

Coben is great with weaving a fairly normal person into a dark tapestry of secrets and lies. You wonder what Matt's wife is up to, and even when the secret is revealed, there are more layers. This is an easy read, and my only complaint was some of the dialog. Because a character wouldn't offer much information, the other person had to ask more, and we get streams of dialog with one or two word sentences. Other than that, it's an enjoyable read.

You know there's going to be a lot of complicated names when there's a pronunciation glossary at the beginning of the book. That proved to be true, with many Celtic gods/goddesses and others, which made for some confusion at times. But overall, I enjoyed the story of the 2000+ year old druid living in modern society. Don't expect him to be mature and wise, however. He looks like a twenty-year old and acts like one too at times. For instance, giving the paramedic who's trying to treat him a magic wedgie. I was a little puzzled at that. Aside from that, Atticus is a lot of fun to read, and I loved his dog, Oberon, who can telepathically communicate with his master. There's a lot of action and bloodshed, and an array of alliances and characters to keep the plot moving briskly.

I read the Inferno for research and really enjoyed it. This translation is great; much better than the first book I started. Ciardi starts each Canto out with a summary and then adds notes at the end. A fascinating look at hell.

This is an incredible read! It has everything: romance, characters to love (or hate), suspense, action. I even cried, though I don't want to give away why. This continues the story started in Path of the Stray. I'm not sure you need to read the first book, but I would recommend it. Falconer does a fabulous job with her characters. Who else could make us love a quantum sentient computer? Jarrod is one of my favorite characters, and his relationship with Tryn, and both their relationships to Quill, her familiar, is so heart-touching.

There are several storylines and time lines, but Falconer manages to keep it all together and clear so that I was never confuzzled. They are all connected in some way or another, in a bigger picture way that will be completely resolved in book 3, I imagine.

Falconer also is phenomenal with capturing several different landscapes: grim future Earth is beautifully juxtaposed with Gaela, a lush world, though not without its troubles.

I LOVED this book! I have to admit, the size, over 600 pages, was a bit daunting at first blush. I don't read a lot of fantasy, but the concept intrigued me. And as I read, it didn't feel daunting in the least. While you're drawn into several storylines, they are easy to follow and keep straight. We see Earth in a decimated future form, and we also see another dimension that's still beautiful and idyllic...before the wars, that is. There are wolf shapeshifters, Lupins, and their existence comes about in a unique and believable way.

What a gorgeous, expansive, and interesting world Kim Falconer has crafted, peopled with characters I came to care about. Now I must go right into ROAD TO THE SOUL, which continues the story!

I loved this book. The writing was smooth and eloquent, the balance of romance and suspense perfect, and the characters were interesting and sympathetic. I liked that the hero's "ailment" is not the standard variety (though you don't find out until near the end what it is!).

This was an enjoyable read! Ellen is a driven single mother with reason to guard her heart. I went into this book with expectations: that it would be badly written and that it would sweep me away into dark, sexy netherworlds. I can't say that it fulfilled either expectation. The writing was fine, so maybe this was more edited than earlier versions. At every turn I wanted to do one of those movie things, screaming for the heroine to get away. And yet, Christian did make allowances for her requests for more. So in some instances I felt she was impatient. But at the end of the book, I wasn't rooting for the couple to continue on.

I can't say that I'm chomping the bit to read the second one. I think I can live knowing that I've read "that" book and leave it at that. I have so many more books to read in my TBR pile.

This is book 2 of the Halfings. It was great to delve into this world again and revisit the familiar and fascinating characters. We meet new Halflings who I hope we'll see in future books. The love triangle takes a large role in this book, and I could totally understand Nikki's indecision where these two are concerned. And yet, she dooms whichever one she chooses, as a Halfling/human romance is forbidden. So there is plenty of angst as she bounces back and forth between the sweet, reliable Mace and the damaged bad boy Raven.

We learn a little more about the plot itself, just enough to tease us into reading the third book to find out what it's all about. And a plot twist will change everything for Nikki going forward.

This series is an interesting take on the angel mythos!

Limos is one of the more unique PNR heroines (and that's saying a lot!) I've read. She's a Horseman of the Apocalypse, loves fru-fru drinks and doing her nails, and gets turned on by lying. Oh, not to mention that she's pledged herself to be Satan's bride. But Larissa brings her to life on the page in a compelling way. Arik is mostly normal and human, but he stands his ground among the other heroes in this series.

This is really an enjoyable story of four long-time friends who each find themselves in a state of crisis. Higgins does a great job showing the bonds and strains between them and painting them vividly. And while only one actually gets resolution by book's end, you get the sense that the others will...eventually. The writing is very good and the pace moves along well.

This novel was packed with lots of action, suspense, and people. You meet many of the Black Knights and get intrigued about their stories. Of course, you know they'll be coming :) Nate and Ali couldn't have been more different, but those differences make it more interesting as they fight sexual tension as well as the villains. You get a lot of page time with Becky and Frank and their major sexual tension too. A great read!

This is the second book in the Firelight series and is just as enjoyable as the first one was. Life in the Pride is just as evocative (and restraining) as life in the desert was in the first book. The themes here are consequences and choices. I found myself turning the pages quickly! Of course, as seems to be the case in the few YA's I've read, it's written in present tense and has a cliffhanger ending. Knowing this going in, it didn't bother me, but now I'm anxiously awaiting #3!

I've been listening to this book while driving and am really enjoying it. You don't have to be "midlife" to get a lot out of it. In fact, twenty and thirty-somethings would get a lot out of it because Marianne talks about "looking back" to your earlier life and learning about yourself. So why not try to learn about yourself while you're younger and stop wasting time angsting and beating yourself up over the things you've done and what life has dealt you.

There is a lot of wisdom packed in here. I really enjoyed it and felt more enriched for having listened to it.

I loved this installment of the Edge! I liked that Audrey, while having lived with a con family, was new and affected by the violence. Watching Kaldar fall in love was great fun. There was more smexiness in this book than in previous ones, I think. That was fine by me. As always, there's plenty of action and violence with the hideous and sadistic Hand at their heels. Body parts were flying, LOL.

I really loved George and Jack, and a lot of the book/POV is focused on them. These are Rose's brothers, who appeared in the first book. I'm sure we'll be seeing them all grown up in future books.

This is a fresh twist on angels, here half human/half angels called Halflings. The three Halfings who are assigned to protect Nikki, who is mysteriously under attack by dark forces, are not only hot, but full of human angst and issues we can relate to. I love their devotion to Nikki, even as they struggle with their feelings for her (two of them, anyway). Nikki is a kick-butt teen thrown into a horrific situation where there are no clear answers. She is, by turns, scared to death (and rightfully so) and determined to survive and find those behind the attacks on her.

An excellent read!

This is an eye-opening book. What stuck with me most was how the wheat we're eating now is not the wheat our grandparents ate. It's been hybridized and modified. Like how we give cows and chickens all of these horrible chemicals to speed up their growth and fatten them up, even wheat has been changed. There is a LOT of info here, sometimes too much that feels repeated, but overall, I'm committing to a wheat-free diet.

I'm a big fan of the Mercy books. I liked how Briggs didn't skirt over the horror of what Mercy just went thru in the last book, Iron Kissed. She's still recovering, having panic attacks, and that made it realistic for me. In a way I find hard to define, this book felt scattered somewhat. But I enjoy the characters so much that it didn't detract much from my enjoyment.

You have Sinon, and his role in taking down Troy, and then his role as a sex slave to a god, and then you have the other gods plotting, AND you have Evie's comic book storyline (which I confess to skipping, as there was already too much to keep track of). I liked the concept of this book, and the writing was fine. My problem was the one-to-two page chapters. You weren't even in one scene or character point of view and you were whisked off to another. It's been a long time since I've read a good, gothic mystery, and this is a great one to jump back in. Rebekkah and Bryon are great characters, both stuck in a strange situation together, and it's nice to watch them realize this and the enormity of their obligations to this odd town. There are ghosts that turn into zombies (or act zombie-ish anyway), but not a lot of gore. It's got some scare in it, but not in a terrifying way. Highly recommended!

This is the second book in Abe's Drakon series. Even though I'm not a big reader of historical, I really enjoy these books. Dream Thief takes up with a character we met in the Smoke Thief, a mortal thief named Zane and the daughter of Rue, the heroine of that book. Though there is not a lot of action and suspense, I find myself enjoying the ride of the mystery, relationship growth, and fun banter of the main characters. As always, Abe's language is evocative and beautiful. A fun read!

It was great to see Julian, the loner and dark hero, find his redemption and, in a way, a family. The heroine was soft, yet strong in her own way and equal in her powers/abilities. The romance is solidified rather early, though their relationship still develops through the story. There were three characters with D-names, which was a bit confusing. For those who like to stay in one character's point of view per scene, be warned: you jump POV from paragraph to paragraph, sometimes covering three characters' thoughts in one scene. Overall, though, a great story!

My husband and I listened to this book on a long trip a couple of days ago. The narrators did an excellent job of portraying the characters. The story was good, catching you up in the realistic characters and the deepening mystery. The cast was great, without there being too many characters to keep up with. One warning: this is not a book to listen to with a child in the car ::CRINGE:: My 8-year old, who mostly had her headphones on, still commented: "There sure are a lot of grown-up words in this book!" Watch out for the F-bombs!

The opening of this book is great, very visual and intense. There's conspiracy, an alternate universe, and lots of sex and sexiness. Frank introduces us to a world where sex education is a big priority, though the idea of watching people have sex, and being watched, might seem a bit too voyeuristic for some. Overall a good story, romance, and great worldbuilding!

This is my first of Singh's books. Coming in midway, the only trouble I had was keeping up with so many names. Otherwise I got a good sense of what was going on. I loved the hero's affinity with metal. It was an interesting trait. Being yanked out of the characters' points of view so often made it a little harder to really get into their heads, but overall I enjoyed the book and the world she set up.

I've read this book twice, once with Oprah and Eckhart through the Soul Series and the next year with a friend in weekly discussions. This is a transformational book, if you're ready. It shows you how to awaken out of your ego, which is an amazing shift. All you have to do is become aware that you are not your ego. Most of the time when you're hurt/angry/irritated/whatever negative emotion, it's all about the ego. You can step out of it and see the source of your emotions for what they are, which is nothing. They literally disappear. I love the stories in this book, which beautifully illustrate his teachings. This is not a religious book and does not try to lead you astray from your beliefs. It expands your beliefs. But only if you're ready.

I LOVED this book! Watching her grow and change, embracing her true values, was such an adventure. This is a feel good book, showing that we can all embrace who we really are, even if you start on the bathroom floor at three in the morning.

My friend and I read this book together, each week discussing each chapter and what hit us. It's a great book for shifting perception, and so much of life is perception. Does a rainy day have to be a yucky day? Or can it just be a rainy day, the earth receiving water it so needs?

This is a great book! It's about the sensuality/sexuality of Polynesian cultures and how we can bring this into our own lives. James's writing is poetic and evokes vivid images of the islands and its peoples. He gives exercises to try that make it easy.

My favorite line so far: "Simply by sensing your natural breathing you can become your own tropical island. For the waves of your breath gently kiss an inner shore--an inner paradise that is utterly silent and tranquil." I could totally see and feel this.

Being an author of twenty books, it's hard to find a book that sweeps me away. I don't know if it's because I see the devices and form so clearly or what. It's certainly not that I'm looking for flaws because being swept up is the reason I started writing to begin with. I want to do that to others. So for me to say a book swept me right up is saying a lot. On the Edge did that for me. I loved the concept, the narrow boundary between our world (the Broken) and the Weird, a world of magic.
