Listening to an audiobook was definitely a different kind of reading experience. I loved “hearing� Shaw and Rules tell the story. At the same time, it was awkward when I was hearing Shaw’s (the female lead) talk as Rule and vise versa. There were times when I just didn’t like the voice they gave supporting characters. For example, Shaw’s best friend Ayden, who was from Kentucky with a strong southern drawl, but when she was being voiced by Shaw’s narrator, she sounded downright hillbilly and that was not how her character was described.

I enjoyed Shaw and Rule. Heck, I enjoyed all of the secondary characters in this book. I didn’t like the fact that Shaw morph into a new person as she became more a part of Rules life. Maybe it’s because Rule’s life was so drastically different from hers. She didn’t want to be the person everyone thought and wanted her to be, but I felt her transformation was a little extreme.

I’m not really into the lifestyle of being fully tattooed and pierced, it just doesn’t appeal to me. I have nothing against inking your entire body, I have a tattoo myself, but piercing anything and everything you can kinda freaks me out. It was hard for me to truly picture Rule as the extremely attractive guy he was supposed be, for this reason alone. Rule’s character, while somewhat gruff and tough, was actually a really nice and caring guy. I found it entertaining watching the evolution of Rule go from a player to a monogamist. I liked him, but I just couldn’t fall in love with him like I do other “book boyfriends�, solely because I just couldn’t picture him.

Overall, I really liked the storyline, the characters and I liked the ending. This audio experience was a positive one, and shortly after I finished this book, I moved on the the second book in the series, Jet. My review for that will be up next week. I look forward to continuing my journey through the Marked Men series, and can’t wait to see what fun storylines and character developments come up.]]> 3.92 2012
