Mothering Sunday 28511477
It is Mothering Sunday.

How will Jane Fairchild, orphan and housemaid, occupy her time when she has no mother to visit? How, shaped by the events of this never to be forgotten day, will her future unfold?

Beginning with an intimate assignation and opening to embrace decades, Mothering Sunday has at its heart both the story of a life and the life that stories can magically contain. Constantly surprising, joyously sensual and deeply moving, it is Graham Swift at his thrilling best.]]>

How to Market a Book 35172485
Marketing isn't a skill that most authors have naturally, and there is little formal training. But when your book hits the shelves, and the sales don't start rolling in, there's only two things an author can do. Keep writing more books and ... Get to grips with marketing.

This book is for authors who want to sell more books, but it's also for those writers who want to think more like an entrepreneur. It's for traditionally published authors who want to take control of their future, and for self-published authors who want to jumpstart a career.

There are some short-term tactics for those who want to kick up immediate sales, but the focus of the book is more about instilling values and marketing principles that will help your long-term career as a writer.

It's also about going beyond just the book, because the methods in this guide can take you from being an author into professional speaking, making money from other products and creating opportunities that you can't even imagine yet.

There are no rules in this game, but learning this kind of authentic marketing has certainly changed my life, so read on and I'll share everything I know with you.

How To Market A Book covers an extensive range of marketing principles, strategies and tactics:

Part 1: Marketing Principles - including myths, how to balance your time, co-opetition and generosity

Part 2: Prerequisites for Success - including an understanding of yourself and your target market, professional editing and cover design, your book page on the retailer websites, pricing and the use of free

Part 3: No Platform Needed - Short-term Marketing - including how to get book reviews, paid advertising, using traditional media and tips for TV, radio and press releases

Part 4: The Author Platform - Long-term Marketing - including the reasons why a platform is a good thing, author branding, your author website, list-building and email marketing, content marketing and blogging, audio and podcasting, video and book trailers, social networking, professional speaking, and becoming an author-entrepreneur.

Part 5: Launching Your Book - including how launching has changed, soft launch, launch spikes, post launch and relaunches as well as lessons learned from some major book launches.

Plus/ tips for when you get overwhelmed and plenty more links to further resources.]]>

<![CDATA[Your Author Business Plan: Take Your Author Career To The Next Level (Creative Business Books for Writers and Authors)]]> 56235826
I'm Joanna Penn and I've been a full-time author-entrepreneur for almost a decade. In this book, I’ll guide you through the process of creating a business plan that will help you achieve your creative and financial goals.

It’s relevant for fiction and non-fiction authors, as well as those who want to include other products, services, and income streams. It’s also applicable whether you’re just starting out or if you already have a mature author business. A plan helps at any stage of the journey.

Part 1 covers your business summary and author brand, taking you through the process of deciding the overall direction for what you want to achieve and who you want to serve.Part 2 goes into the production process around your writing, publishing and licensing, products and services.Part 3 covers your marketing strategy and author eco-system.Part 4 goes into the financial side of your business, from mindset to revenue and costs, as well as paying yourself now and into the future. The final chapter will give you a framework for simplifying your plan and turning it into achievable steps across a chosen timeline.

In each section, I give examples from my own business plan and there are questions for you to answer, templates, and resources that might help along the way, as well as example business plans for different kinds of authors.

It's time to take your author career to the next level. Let's get started on your business plan.

Please This book doesn’t go into detail on how to do the specific topics, for example, how to self-publish a book, or how to do content marketing. I cover those topics in my other Books for Authors.

If you already have my previous business book, Business for Authors, this is a rewritten and updated sub-set of that material, focusing on the specifics of a plan as opposed to everything involved in running a business. This book acts as a companion as well as a more recent update to my own author journey. It will help you bring it all together into a coherent plan that you can use to take your author business into the future.

Better Late 39107160
Mark is a fifty-year-old French literature professor. He ‘came out several years ago, but has never really tried to have a relationship with a man since the dalliance with a male colleague that led to his sexual awakening and a split from his wife. Now living alone, except for times when his daughter, Gemma, stays over, he decides the time is right to try his hand at relationships, encouraged by his brother, Garrett. Mark’s few attempts at dating don’t go terribly well!

And then Gemma announces she has a new boyfriend. Andy is thirty-one, a dancer who totally ‘gets him, and even finds his jokes hilarious and, the more time Andy spends with him, the more Mark finds himself falling hopelessly in love.
Should he try and hide his feelings, throwing himself into dating? What else is he to do? He’s Gemma’s dad! And Andy can’t possibly feel the same. Can he?

A beautiful M/M romance novella set in contemporary Canada, overflowing with endearing characters and the cheesiest puns.]]>

The characters are really endearing, particularly Mark, the fifty-year-old French literature professor, who is trying hard to get his head around dating (with appalling success!) since coming out as gay to his wife and daughter eight years earlier. The way the reader is led through the trials and tribulations of poor Mark, as he meets and completely falls for Andy, his daughter's new boyfriend, is done in a hilarious and heart-wrenchingly (and often cringe-worthily) empathic fashion.

I have read Better Late countless times now, and the last few chapters never fail to bring a tear to my eye (although no spoilers here!). Lazuli Jones has written a beautiful love story, made even better by the wonderful cheesy puns! This won't be the last time I read it and I recommend it to anyone who loves romance, whether or not it's a M/M story.]]>

The Secret of Vesalius 34332965 A gripping new Frankenstein set in 19th century Barcelona - a historical thriller sold in 18 countries

Frankenstein meets The Shadow of the Wind in a Gothic thriller set in the diabolical city of fin-de-siecle Barcelona.

Daniel Amat has left Spain and all that happened there behind him. Having just achieved a brilliant role in Ancient Languages at Oxford University and an even more advantageous engagement, the arrival of a letter - a demand - stamped Barcelona comes like a cold hand from behind.

He arrives back in that old, labyrinthine and near-mythic city a few days before the great 1888 World Fair, amid dread whispers of murders - the injuries reminiscent of an ancient curse, and bearing signs of the genius 16th century anatomist, Vesalius. Daniel is soon pulled into the depths of the crime, and eventually into the tunnels below Barcelona, where his own dark past and the future of science are joined in a terrible venture - to bring the secret of Vesalius to life.

Gothic and gripping, this historical thriller makes of Barcelona a diabolical character - emerging out of the dark into a new electrical age, aflame with spirit, superstition and science. Published in eighteen countries, Jordi Llobregat's bestselling first novel mixes a passionate setting and cryptic mystery into a genre-crossing phenomenon.

The Aeneid 1681593 Iliad, begins an incredible journey to fulfill his destiny as the founder of Rome.

His voyage will take him through stormy seas, entangle him in a tragic love affair, and lure him into the world of the dead itself—all the way tormented by the vengeful Juno, Queen of the Gods. Ultimately, he reaches the promised land of Italy where, after bloody battles and with high hopes, he founds what will become the Roman empire. An unsparing portrait of a man caught between love, duty, and fate, the Aeneid redefines passion, nobility, and courage for our times. Robert Fagles, whose acclaimed translations of Homer’s Iliad ԻOdyssey were welcomed as major publishing events, brings the Aeneid to a new generation of readers, retaining all of the gravitas and humanity of the original Latin as well as its powerful blend of poetry and myth. Featuring an illuminating introduction to Virgil’s world by esteemed scholar Bernard Knox, this volume lends a vibrant new voice to one of the seminal literary achievements of the ancient world.

For more than sixty-five years, Penguin has been the leading publisher of classic literature in the English-speaking world. With more than 1,500 titles, Penguin Classics represents a global bookshelf of the best works throughout history and across genres and disciplines. Readers trust the series to provide authoritative texts enhanced by introductions and notes by distinguished scholars and contemporary authors, as well as up-to-date translations by award-winning translators.

While My Wife's Away recounts Joe's recognition of his sexual nature in a series of encounters--some short, some repeated, some comic, some sad, all of them extremely hot in the way that only James Lear can make them. Each chapter is a self-contained episode from Joe's life, but throughout the book we see him coming to terms with what he really is, and struggling with his feelings of guilt and betrayal as it becomes clear that his marriage is over. Much of the dramatic tension in the book arises from the difficulties of negotiating his family life with his new personal life, the awkwardness and potential disaster inherent in each situation.]]>

Tropic of Cancer redefined the novel. Set in Paris in the 1930s, it features a starving American writer who lives a bohemian life among prostitutes, pimps, and artists. Banned in the US and the UK for more than thirty years because it was considered pornographic, Tropic of Cancer continued to be distributed in France and smuggled into other countries. When it was first published in the US in 1961, it led to more than 60 obscenity trials until a historic ruling by the Supreme Court defined it as a work of literature. Long hailed as a truly liberating book, daring and uncompromising, Tropic of Cancer is a cornerstone of modern literature that asks us to reconsider everything we know about art, freedom, and morality.

'At last an unprintable book that is fit to read' Ezra Pound

'A momentous event in the history of modern writing' Samuel Beckett

'The book that forever changed the way American literature would be written' Erica Jong]]>

After spending time with Andrew in and out of bed, Jeremy struggles not to fall for the damaged viscount, knowing the season will likely end in Andrew's engagement.

<![CDATA[The Many Lives of Miss K: Toto Koopman - Model, Muse, Spy]]> 17621057
Like her contemporaries Lee Miller or Vita Sackville-West, Toto lived with an independent spirit more typical of the men of her generation, moving in the worlds of fashion, society, art, and politics with an insouciant ease that would stir both admiration and envy even today. Sphinxlike and tantalizing, Toto conducted her life as a game, driven by audacity and style. Jean-Noël Liaut chases his enigmatic subject through the many roles and lives she inhabited, both happy and tragic. Though her beauty, charisma, and taste for the extraordinary made her an exuberant fixture of Paris fashion and café society, her intelligence and steely sense of self drove her toward bigger things, culminating in espionage during WWII, for which she was imprisoned by the Nazis in Ravensbruck.

After the horrors of the camp, Toto found solace in Erica Brausen, the German art dealer who launched the career of Francis Bacon, and the two women lived out their lives together surrounded by cultural luminaries like Edmonde Charles-Roux and Luchino Visconti.

But even in her later decades, Toto remained impossible for anyone to possess. The Many Lives of Miss K explores the allure of a freethinking and courageous woman who, fiercely protective of her independence, was sought after by so many but ultimately known by very few.]]>

As one date leads to another, her obsession spirals. MS finds herself writing letters to Facebook (to see if XX can tell how many times she views his page), to her phone company (can they delete messages she regrets sending?) and to XX's favourite author (who is dead), whilst the object of her affection remains aloof, a moodily seductive Vespa-riding urbanite.

All This Has Nothing To Do With Me is an exposé of a broken heart. With full access to MS's photos, diary extracts and emails, it documents MS and XX's relationship from jubilant start to painful finish, and lays out her life - and past - for our scrutiny.

Highly original, extremely funny, and darkly moving, this is an unputdownable glimpse into the depths of one woman's psyche.]]>

At the Existentialist Café 25658482 this cocktail!'

From this moment of inspiration, Sartre will create his own extraordinary philosophy of real, experienced life–of love and desire, of freedom and being, of cafés and waiters, of friendships and revolutionary fervour. It is a philosophy that will enthral Paris and sweep through the world, leaving its mark on post-war liberation movements, from the student uprisings of 1968 to civil rights pioneers.

At the Existentialist Café tells the story of modern existentialism as one of passionate encounters between people, minds and ideas. From the ‘king and queen of existentialism'–Sartre and de Beauvoir–to their wider circle of friends and adversaries including Albert Camus, Martin Heidegger, Maurice Merleau-Ponty and Iris Murdoch, this book is an enjoyable and original journey through a captivating intellectual movement. Weaving biography and thought, Sarah Bakewell takes us to the heart of a philosophy about life that also changed lives, and that tackled the biggest questions of all: what we are and how we are to live.]]>

Lust in Summer 35425362

***
In Devi Ansevi's Captive Mate , it's X-Men meets Xtra hot. Jane is a librarian with a taste for submission. Bender is the Dom who broke her. Minutes after arriving at the Eagle Eye headquarters, she's learned three things: (1) Shifters are real. (2) Bender is one of them. (3) He claims she's his mate. Under threat from an assassin, Jane agrees to let him keep her safe, but she’s determined to protect her heart. Is Bender Dom enough to convince his willful mate they belong together?

In Midsummer Night by J.D. Carabella, Jennifer feels like one of the faceless masses in a nameless city. A sexual fireball trapped in a life of drab invisibility. She longs to break into a world of light and color, to escape the shackles of society and become the fearless woman of her dreams. But she can't do it alone. She needs someone to share her passion and her kinks. It seems too good to be true, but she may finally have found that someone. When he invites her on a wild adventure, how can she say no?

In Jacqui Greaves' Rose Moon , it is midsummer night, Litha, and the triplet witches have traversed the veil between realms to collect their dues from humans. Rather than a roaring bonfire and a crowd of naked revellers, only a ragtag group of rebels await. The human world has changed beyond all reckoning since their last visit. Captured by the mad monk and stripped of their magic, the witches face a deadly battle to save themselves, their new acolytes, and the realms from a never-ending winter.

In Emma Jaye's Incubus Summer , Finn is a college student caught in a supernatural power struggle. Two weeks after the break-up with his boyfriend, his life has spiraled out of control. Bonded to an incubus, pursued by a werewolf, and betrayed by a fae, will Finn find the strength to choose his own destiny, or will he accept his lover's dark hold?

309 Devi Ansevi Ina 5 paranormal-erotic-romance
This book was a joy to read, from the first word to the last. Steamy episodes of paranormal erotica meld seamlessly with an overarching and mesmerising fantasy adventure narrative, full of tension and written with an astute filmic eye.

The three witches at the centre of this story are paranormal creatures, yes, but never caricatures. Each has an exquisitely drawn erotic personality and identifiable "human" nuances that allows the reader to take them into her heart as the sisters find themselves forced to save the natural stability of the earthly realm from the threatened tyranny of the Winter King.

What I particularly love about this trio is that they use sex to recharge their magical powers - the ultimate nod towards female empowerment through the erotic! It provides a wonderful foil, too, for the abuse of patriarchy seen in the earthly realm and that of the nature gods who hover above and control all (a little like the Greek gods in Clash of the Titans!), and holds up a superb mirror to the willingness by the nature goddesses to embrace the erotic for its own pleasurable sake.

Throughout the entire story, the reader is taken on an emotional roller-coaster journey which has many more cleverly imbued undertones than a tale of three witches and their human lovers saving the realm. It is a story of courage, and faith, of identity, and of love. An altogether impressive novella which I thoroughly recommend.]]>

This is not your average tips-and-techniques sex book; rather it is an exploratory journey of the sexual self and the infinite possibilities of ecstatic expression. In Ecstasy is Necessary, Carrellas teaches readers how to discover, nurture, expand, and embrace their authentic, ever-evolving, sensual, sexual self.

Everyone goes through different phases of sexual expression and desire, and there are an infinite number of erotic and ecstatic possibilities available at all points along the way. The insights readers will gain in their journey with Carrellas will help them confidently approach sex and relationships in a way that works for them no matter where they are in their sexual evolution. They will get tools for solving the inevitable challenges that arise. They’ll even receive permission not to have sex at all, if that’s what’s right for them, because it is possible to create ecstatic experiences even when sex itself is not possible, available, or appropriate.

Using stories and simple exercises, Carrellas helps readers understand how they are wired for sex and relationships, what their personal warning signs look like, and what they need for optimum care. Plus, they’ll learn how to effectively communicate this information to others so that they can be loved more easily and effectively.

As readers discover their authentic sexual selves, they will learn how to create the conditions that allow more and more of their experiences and relationships to be opportunities for—and invitations to—ecstasy.]]>

Dark Tales 30303793 For the first time in one volume, a collection of Shirley Jackson's scariest stories, with a foreword by PEN/Hemingway Award winner Ottessa Moshfegh

After the publication of her short story "The Lottery" in the New Yorker in 1948 received an unprecedented amount of attention, Shirley Jackson was quickly established as a master horror storyteller. This collection of classic and newly reprinted stories provides readers with more of her unsettling, dark tales, including the "The Possibility of Evil" and "The Summer People." In these deliciously dark stories, the daily commute turns into a nightmarish game of hide and seek, the loving wife hides homicidal thoughts and the concerned citizen might just be an infamous serial killer. In the haunting world of Shirley Jackson, nothing is as it seems and nowhere is safe, from the city streets to the crumbling country pile, and from the small-town apartment to the dark, dark woods. There's something sinister in suburbia.

For more than seventy years, Penguin has been the leading publisher of classic literature in the English-speaking world. With more than 1,700 titles, Penguin Classics represents a global bookshelf of the best works throughout history and across genres and disciplines. Readers trust the series to provide authoritative texts enhanced by introductions and notes by distinguished scholars and contemporary authors, as well as up-to-date translations by award-winning translators.]]>

Malleus Maleficarum 19118719 James Sprenger ( 1436/1438 - 1495 ) was a German priest born in Rheinfelden. He is believed to be the co-author of Malleus Maleficarum with Heinrich Kramer. Sprenger was not interested in witches and witch trials and many scholars believe Sprenger was named a co-author to give the book more authority since he was a priest.

Heinrich Kramer, also known as Henricus Institoris, (1430 1505) was a German churchman. In 1485 he created a treatise on witchcraft that was incorporated in Malleus Maleficarum. This book was met with much rejection and Kramer was denounced by the Inquisition at the Faculty of Cologne.

A table of contents is included.

When Pleasure Blooms 17278744 Librarian note: Older edition of B00FIUOEX6.

An anthology of five erotica short stories.

When Pleasure Blooms A unique short story which is very sensual and erotic yet has absolutely no explicit descriptions of sexual acts. An extremely rare and exotic flower brings great pleasure to those who are lucky enough to find it in bloom.

An African Massage - The tale of Tony, who gets more relaxation than he expected when he visits an African resort and unwinds, on his first day, with a massage.
Note: This story is also published as a standalone book in its own right.

Mary Had A Naval Virgin - This story is based upon the popular nursery rhyme. These are the adventures of a couple of Royal Navy officer cadets when they encounter the unlikely ghost of the fabled Mary.
Includes some m-f-m action with the ghost as the jam in the sandwich!
This story is set in North and Mid Wales, and has some comedy value.
Note: This story is also published as a standalone book in its own right.

Highland Roots - Fiona, a female American descendant of Jesse Chisholm, founder of the Chisholm Trail, heads for the Highlands of Scotland to investigate her Scottish roots. She meets her kilted distant cousin, Bruce, in a pub. He takes her for a ride into the wild mountainous countryside on his ancient motorbike. The trip turns out to be more exciting than either of them could possibly have imagined.
Note: This story is also published as a standalone book in its own right.

On The Altar - Against the strong advice of her sister, Stacey O'Malley makes the long journey from western Canada to a medieval church in southern England in her quest to discover the truth behind her recurring dreams. The sexual tension builds to extreme heights, and is sustained as Stacey's emotions and body are stretched to the limits when she encounters a monstrous beast.
Note: This story is also published as a standalone book in its own right.]]>

Beautiful Losers 26257451 'Would you like to watch us?'

Shira is deeply, achingly in love with her best friend, Jean. This is unfortunate, because he's gay. But with one flippant invitation, Shira, Jean, and his boyfriend, Sebastian, begin their obsessive journey into the dark heart of sexual excess. When even their own edgy subculture refuses to accept them, Sebastian builds a new world with new rules to shelter the threesome. But the baggage they've brought with them can't simply be left at the door and, when the real world breaches the carefully constructed walls, it does so with tragic consequences.

Beautiful Losers is the first novel-length work by erotic fiction writer Remittance Girl.

French Decadent Tales 15856156 ھ--è Paris. The years 1880-1900 saw an extraordinary, hothouse flowering of talent, that produced some of the most exotic, stylized, and cerebral literature in the French language. While 'Decadence' was a European movement, its epicentre was the French capital. On the eve of Freud's early discoveries, writers such as Gourmont, Lorrain, Maupassant, Mirbeau, Richepin, Schwob, and Villiers engaged in a species of wild analysis of their own, perfecting the art of short fiction as they did so. Death and Eros haunt these pages, and a polymorphous perversity by turns hilarious and horrifying. Their stories teem with addicts, maniacs, and murderers as they strive to outdo each other. This newly translated selection brings together the very best writing of the period, from lesser known figures as well as famous names. Provocative and unsettling, these extraordinary, corrosive little tales continue to cast a cold eye on the modern world.

Effie Gray 23289282 'A joy to read - a wonderful, rich book.' Dame Emma Thompson

The scandalous love triangle at the heart of the Victorian art world. Effie Gray, a Scottish beauty, was the heroine of a great Victorian love story. Married at nineteen to John Ruskin, she found herself trapped in a loveless and unconsummated union. When her husband invited his protégé John Everett Millais away on holiday, she and Millais fell in love. Effie would inspire some of Millais's most haunting images, and embody Victorian society's fears about female sexuality.

Effie risked everything by leaving Ruskin. She hoped to find fulfilment as Millais's wife, becoming a society hostess and manager of his studio, but controversy and tragedy continued to stalk her. Suzanne Fagence Cooper has gained exclusive access to Effie's family letters and diaries to reveal the reality behind the scandalous love-triangle. She shows the rise and fall of the Pre-Raphaelite circle from a new perspective, through the eyes of a woman who was intimately involved in the private and public lives of its two greatest figures. Effie's charm and ambition helped to shape the careers of both her husbands. Effie is a compelling portrait of the extraordinary woman behind some of the most famous Pre-Raphaelite paintings.]]>

Eros the Bittersweet 150255 Eros is Anne Carson's exploration of the concept of "eros" in both classical philosophy and literature. Beginning with: "It was Sappho who first called eros 'bittersweet.' No one who has been in love disputes her. What does the word mean?", Carson examines her subject from numerous points of view and styles, transcending the constraints of the scholarly exercise for an evocative and lyrical meditation in the tradition of William Carlos William's Spring and All and William H. Gass's On Being Blue.

<![CDATA[What If?: Writing Exercises for Fiction Writers]]> 768531 What If? is the first handbook for writers based on the idea that specific exercises are one of the most useful and provocative methods for mastering the art of writing fiction. With more than twenty-five years of experience teaching creative writing between them, Anne Bernays and Pamela Painter offer more than seventy-five exercises for both beginners and more experienced writers. These exercises are designed to develop and refine two basic skills: writing like a writer and, just as important, thinking like a writer. They deal with such topics as discovering where to start and end a story; learning when to use dialogue and when to use indirect discourse; transforming real events into fiction; and finding language that both sings and communicates precisely. What If? will be an essential addition to every writer's library, a welcome and much-used companion, a book that gracefully borrows a whisper from the muse.]]> 256 Anne Bernays 0062720066 Ina 0 to-read, writing-craft 3.89 1990 What If?: Writing Exercises for Fiction Writers
