There are a few ideas/arguments put forward by Mark that I really appreciate, that I thought were mindblowing. And there are also a few things that as a Muslim, I found very relatable such as the constant need to be reminded about death. For us, as ironic as it may sound, death is a part of life and they cannot be separated. Death is not the end of life, but rather, a starting point for another life. That's why you will meet a lot of calm and positive Muslims, because we have a higher purpose in life.

Anyway, overall I think the book is a commendable reading for self-help/motivational dose that you need once in a while, especially if you need something that is unconventional and rather honest. It's funny, witty and a-matter-of-fact kind of book, rather than being too philosophical or deep in complex theories.

Saya sudah lama mendengar tentang karya Hlovate, tetapi tidak pernah berpeluang untuk membacanya sendiri. Akhirnya seseorang menghadiahkan saya dengan Versus dan saya tidak punya alasan lagi untuk tidak membacanya.

Sudah tentu saya mempunya high expectation dengan penulisan Hlovate kerana puji-muji yang melambung tinggi seringkali dilontarkan kepadanya. But I'm going to be honest with my review and hopefully, Hlovate's die-hard-fans won't turn into monsters. Haha.

I'm a perfectionist, jadi saya ada sedikit isu dengan susun atur (layout) buku ini. Dialog-dialognya kadangkala mengelirukan. Tidak tahu siapa yang sedang berkata-kata. Tidak dibezakan sedang bercakap dalam hati atau macam mana. Plot interchanging macam tu je. Memang kadang-kadang tu konpius! But as I went along, I can grip the writing style and lama-lama boleh biasakan lah.

Ada juga watak-watak yang saya rasakan tidak perlu (redundant) contohnya watak Zarul, sepupu AO. Begitu juga watak Johan.

That's about it, my criticisms. Now let's go to the puji-muji part. Haha.

Hlovate menulis buku ini dengan gaya yang sangat bersahaja, sehinggakan bukan sekali dua saya dapat merasakan saya berada bersama-sama dengan Minn dan AO. Dan penuh dengan lawak jenaka yang saya memang sangat boleh relate. Kadang-kadang tu macam kepala masuk air sebab tergelak sorang-sorang. Hehe.

Watak-watak utama (Minn dan AO) memang sangat hidup. Meskipun ada beberapa ketika saya merasakan watak mereka terlalu ideal, but most of the time, they are US. Entah kenapa, tetapi saya memang sangat boleh relate dengan watak AO (dan Minn to a certain extent) though I don't skate. Haha.

Kisah cinta mereka juga sangat suwit muwit sehingga kadang-kadang saya rasa, naik merah juga muka saya dibuatnya. Sometimes you just wish you are going through the same love story.

Satu benda yang saya sangat respek ialah bagaimana Hlovate berjaya membangunkan beberapa tema sekaligus, which is honestly, a difficult thing to do. Antara tema yang sangat hidup dan bersahaja ialah tema kekeluargaan, notably on Along-Angah-Che'E relationship (though less on Encik Musa and Puan Anisah's).

All in all, saya sangat enjoy baca buku ni. And highly recommended as well, for a dai'e myself, this book is full with dakwah messages, alhamdulillah.

Sudah tentu saya mempunya high expectation dengan penulisan Hlovate kerana puji-muji yang melambung tinggi seringkali dilontarkan kepadanya. But I'm going to be honest with my review and hopefully, Hlovate's die-hard-fans won't turn into monsters. Haha.

I'm a perfectionist, jadi saya ada sedikit isu dengan susun atur (layout) buku ini. Dialog-dialognya kadangkala mengelirukan. Tidak tahu siapa yang sedang berkata-kata. Tidak dibezakan sedang bercakap dalam hati atau macam mana. Plot interchanging macam tu je. Memang kadang-kadang tu konpius! But as I went along, I can grip the writing style and lama-lama boleh biasakan lah.

Ada juga watak-watak yang saya rasakan tidak perlu (redundant) contohnya watak Zarul, sepupu AO. Begitu juga watak Johan.

That's about it, my criticisms. Now let's go to the puji-muji part. Haha.

Hlovate menulis buku ini dengan gaya yang sangat bersahaja, sehinggakan bukan sekali dua saya dapat merasakan saya berada bersama-sama dengan Minn dan AO. Dan penuh dengan lawak jenaka yang saya memang sangat boleh relate. Kadang-kadang tu macam kepala masuk air sebab tergelak sorang-sorang. Hehe.

Watak-watak utama (Minn dan AO) memang sangat hidup. Meskipun ada beberapa ketika saya merasakan watak mereka terlalu ideal, but most of the time, they are US. Entah kenapa, tetapi saya memang sangat boleh relate dengan watak AO (dan Minn to a certain extent) though I don't skate. Haha.

Kisah cinta mereka juga sangat suwit muwit sehingga kadang-kadang saya rasa, naik merah juga muka saya dibuatnya. Sometimes you just wish you are going through the same love story.

Satu benda yang saya sangat respek ialah bagaimana Hlovate berjaya membangunkan beberapa tema sekaligus, which is honestly, a difficult thing to do. Antara tema yang sangat hidup dan bersahaja ialah tema kekeluargaan, notably on Along-Angah-Che'E relationship (though less on Encik Musa and Puan Anisah's).

All in all, saya sangat enjoy baca buku ni. And highly recommended as well, for a dai'e myself, this book is full with dakwah messages, alhamdulillah.
