Blood Rites (The Dresden Files, #6)

The latest book in dresden files series is somewhat of a mixed bag for me.
The following are the points which I loved about the book
1. We get lot of information regarding Harry's past.
2. Harry finally has someone to call as his family.
3. Information regarding white court vampire eating habits & black court vampires.
4. Black ops branch of white council.
The following are the points which I hated about the book
1. A hapzard uncooked plot.
2. The author describing time again how curvaceous a women was.
3. Karen murphy's tantrums regarding her family.
I am going to elaborate on each of these points in the review. Let’s start with the points which I loved in this book.
1.We get lot of information regarding Harry's past.
I think most apt title for this could have been Blood line instead of Blood rites because a whole lot of Harry's family history is explored in this book. From the previous books we already know that Harry's mother was a white council witch but she was not always what we can call a white witch. The mother's part of story definitely advances in this book and there are some shocking revelations which had me excited when I was reading it.
2.Harry finally has someone to call as his family.
This part of the story was also well written because the revelation regarding Harry's mother leads him to someone whom he can finally call as his family. At the end of the book Harry was a really happy guy to see his life was going in a right direction after he has found someone he can call as his own family.
3.Information regarding white court vampire eating habits & black court vampires.
We get lot of information regarding white court vampires as to how they feed on your spirit instead of sucking you dry. Also these white court vampires love playing death politics with a victim instead of pulling the trigger them self on victim. Lord raith the chief of white court is shown as a twisted person who ruthlessly kills off any opposition to his status quo, he doesn't even differentiate between family and others when it comes to his status.
Regarding the black court vampires we come to know that they are basically like your stoker vampires they are vulnerable to sunlight, holy water and garlic and host of accessories which you have seen movies by which they can be killed. But they are also the most the ruthless vampires.
4.Black ops branch of white council.
The white council is not as as white as it is shown, but they also have a black branch the wizards within which have a license to kill. This information definitely has big repercussions regarding the story.
Now let’s get to the bad stuff.
1.A hapzard uncooked plot.
The plot basically involves Harry lending his wizarding services to a porno director Arturo Genosa who basically thinks he has been cursed due to which he is not able to complete his porn flick. The second part of the story basically consists of Harry taking a decision to wipe out black court vampires with the help of kincaid and murphy. We met kincaid in the last book who is basically a paid body guard for Ivy aka The Archive.Although the two plots connected at the end of the book but the reasons given for the curse basically blew the air out of the balloon for me.
Actually I think this might me a problem with a series as a whole, butcher writes very strong books and then he writes books which have a weak plot and very filler and cheesy chapters. The series so far has been a see saw for me.
2.The author describing time again how curvaceous a women was.
Although Harry has been employed by a porno director, and also the white court female vampires are known for their beauty and glamor but time and again Butcher keeps on writing regarding how slender her legs was or how her tips got hard which becomes somewhat tiresome after reading it time and again. It feels like reading someone's wet dreams diary instead of a dresden files book.
3.Karen murphy's tantrums regarding her family.
I actually liked murphy's character in previous books, where she represents a strong women who doesn't budge before anyone but she goes into a drama mode into this book and it is due to her family. This part was definitely a filler part in the book which did not have any connection whatsoever to the plot of the book.
All in all it was definitely a let down from the last book Death masks, so I will give it 2/5 stars.
