UNPOPULAR OPINION!
Meira, a 16 year old girl, was orphaned 16 years ago when her Kingdom, called Winter, was conquered.

The nation was enslaved and the land abandoned, leaving the citizens without magic or a monarch. Meira has lived her whole life as a refugee, training with the last 8 of Winter’s free (not enslaved) citizens. They have been waiting for the chance to steal back their magic and hopefully rebuild their kingdom.

So the story follows Meira and the other refugee’s on their plight to restore Winter’s magic. Meira has to quickly learn to adapt and see the big picture as she is thrust into a world of politics, war, risks, evil magic and even love. She comes to realize that her destiny, was never her’s to decide.
My Review!!
I gave this book 3/5 stars. I thought the plot of this one novel could have been spread out into multiple books but because of the lack of details and lack story arc development (I found lot's of potential for story arcs within secondary characters stories, or even events that could have been more explained), it was sadly squished into one book. I found the writing plain, boring and uninteresting. I did enjoy the plot, I just wish it had been more developed within detail and had been written better. I also did not like that there were ‘Seasons nations and their capital corresponded with the season (Ex. Winter, Januari). I did not find that creative, sure if each nation was stuck in a perpetual season, yes that would be okay, but to name them after the seasons and months? I found it sort of irritating, as if the author just wanted to jam pack this novel with random ‘creative facts that make it a unique world. Overall, I do intend to read the next book, because I would like to follow the plot. I know some readers absolutely love this book, but I found it disappointing because what could have been an amazing book and beginning to a series, wasn’t.
sidenote: Cordellan prince and Meira are who I ship, not Mather. I will go down with this ship.
P.S. My favourite parts of the book were when she was in the slave camp and when she was engaged to the Cordellan prince in his kingdom
Tell me what you guys thought of the book!! Or books you have read that is like it!
