it was ok

In giving this book two stars, I'm not saying that this is a terrible book, just that throughout reading it I felt it simply wasn't for me, just not my style of book! If you like symbolic, spiritual fantasy stories with a heavy focus on the inner self/ self-discovery, then this may very well be for you.

I found the writing style overly-poetic at times with some unusual word choices and the whole story lacked in pace for me. I also didn't feel any connection to any of the characters, and subsequently didn't care too much about their own journeys. It's a story which focuses heavily on Berka truly understanding who she is and what her purpose is in life. Unfortunately I found the naivety of Berka frustrating and unlikeable.

I'm a huge fan of fantasy and books with some form of magic, but I just wasn't convinced by the magic in this book. I think I must like my magic more structured and explained, rather than being linked to the power within, spirit guides etc. It was all a bit convenient and just overall, not for me!
