** spoiler alert ** The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton was probably one of the best books I have ever read because it has a lot of action and drama. It really makes you think about how you live your life. The setting is pretty vague but it is in America during the 1960's. The characters in the story are Ponyboy (the narrator), Johnny, Soda, Darry, Dallas, Two-Bit, and Steve. They are all greasers, a gang of hoodlums who do not have very much money. The enemies of the greasers are the Socials (or Socs). The Socs are a gang of rich kids with high self-esteem. The greasers and the Socs are enemies because the greasers think that Socs get everything and the Socs don't like the greasers because they are poor and dirty. The main conflict of the story is when Johnny breaks his back and dies in a burning church. Everyone has a hard time with this commotion because he was a beloved by everyone. I loved this book and would recommend it to anybody because it has something for everyone. Action, drama, humor, scary stuff. I hope you decide to read this book.
