really liked it

A tricky novel to rate, but the world established by Pamela makes me lean towards the 4 stars. The introduction immediately let's you know this is a novel set in the future, but it is not until you're halfway through that you realise just how dark and somewhat wrong that future has become. Humans have created androids that think and feel, but then continue to treat them like slaves - a pattern as old as the human race itself.

What probably let the story down for me were the characters. While I felt the characters themselves were well developed, somehow their story itself did not grip me. I found the writing a little slow without the flare or excitement I thought certain scenes needed.

The plot itself could have used some work. For instance there is a scene where the mother goes looking for daughter, cannot find her in the bar, is worried about her, and then nothing? The scene could be removed to give more room for other scenes to grow - as certain phases definitely felt rushed (the development of the bf then subsequent ending with his disagreement with her in the bar felt very abrupt).

All in all a decent story with good characters, but could use some work to really make it shine!
