it was amazing
bookshelves: children-s-books, picture-books, caldecott

This was an absolute favorite! I found it so inspiring and so well-written. Uri's father bought a map instead of bread during WWII. Studying that map led Uri to dream of faraway places and a brighter future. The book includes a few of his drawings when he was a boy and a photograph of him. Such a wonderful story. It seems like it would take some hopeful/forward thinking to buy the map rather than food. While the map ended up being so much more important and long lasting than bread, when your basic needs aren't met, it is usually difficult to focus on other needs... Absolutely wonderful!
