The Collector is a short science-fiction read I got through Kindle Unlimited. It features a barmaid and a male customer who find themselves on an alien planet after closing time one night—and it’s not a drink-induced figment of their imagination. :-) An entity called The Collector has removed them from Earth. They’re instructed to follow a path where they meet other people who also woke up to find themselves on this strange planet with two suns. Most of their questions are ultimately answered, but I won’t go into that here and spoil the story for other readers.
My favorite thing about this novella was the world-building. The author did a very good job of that. I thought the characters could have stood a bit more development—surely some other than the children would have been upset over leaving loved ones behind, for example. Maybe some space could have been taken from the world-building and devoted to the characters instead? The dialogue did seem stilted at times, but I suspect that’s due to English not being the author’s native language. It wasn’t a major problem for me.
All in all, an interesting read if you enjoy far-out science-fiction.
