Mixed feelings. It was hard to relate to many of the miraculous stories, having never experienced something similar. My sense is that these stories "diminish in the telling," and that actually part of them is/was a profound and beautiful experience.
As amazing as those stories are, I know that's not the point of the book. As the author says, "We are seeking [God's] face, not his manifestations. If manifestations come we bless God; if they're not there we don't worry for a moment. What we must have is his presence" (p. 98-99).

The underlying foundation is one of total dependence and expectation on God to "show up," which is a very refreshing perspective:

"I concluded I didn't want to persuade people about the veracity or non-veracity of the words in a book. I believed they could encounter the living God and that the words would come alive to them as a result" (p. 27).

After finishing, I also want to read the book Roy mentions called Rediscovering the Celts.

Three good "action point" questions to end on:

"What is good and wholesome within this community that I could bless practically by affirmation and support with time/money?....
"Who is God putting in front of me that I should show kindness or mercy to?...
"Who is God putting in front of me that I might clearly share the gospel with?" (p. 163)
