it was amazing

True confession: I had a hard time getting into Gentleman From Moscow, which is why I hesitated to read Towles' first book, but I'm so glad I didn't let that get in my way. I just loved Rules of Civility, and now I wonder if my impression of GfM had more to do with me and where my head was at or perhaps I was resisting all the hype? Anyway, there's so much to admire about his writing, his rich and detailed evocation of pre-war Manhattan, and the insights about life and human behavior that are sprinkled throughout this elegant, moving, deeply nostalgic book. I bought a copy for my son who just moved to NYC. It's the perfect gift for a new resident of the city. This is exactly the kind of story I enjoy, and now you can count me among Towles league of fans.
