Warning: this review really does contain some spoilers:
I liked this book despite a couple of minor problems with it. Eleanor and Park is a sweet story about two teenagers (in 1986) who initially don't like each other but end up bonding over comic books and music. Their relationship blooms over time and develops into love. It was enjoyable to watch their relationship develop and I liked how Park became protective over Eleanor, who had a horrible home life and who was constantly bullied by her classmates because of her differences: she was overweight, had red curly (wild) hair and dressed in baggy (often men's) clothing. These things were relatable and rang true but there were a couple of things that were harder to believe such as the fact that before she moved into her new town and house (and started at the school where she met Park) Eleanor was kicked out of her house by her step father and ended up living with family friends for a whole year. To me it seems strange that the friends would go for that. And I know women stay with abusive men but it seems her mother would do something about it after a month or so. The other thing that was somewhat bothersome is that I figured out who was writing the nasty comments on Eleanor's schoolbooks as soon as it started happening. Overall, I really liked the book. The writing was excellent and I loved how it was told from the points of view of both Eleanor and Park.

"Yes, I'm starting another book, bringing my "currently reading" pile up to 7 books. I guess this really isn't too bad since Jacob reminded me that once I had 13 books going."
