Reading again April 2010 to gear up for JR Wards next addition to the BDB series....Lover Mine.
This is book 7 of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. This book focuses on Rehvenge. Rehv isn’t actually part of the Brotherhood, he’s kinda the opposite. Rehvenge is a drug lord and owns a number of nightclubs in the city, one of them frequently visited by the Brotherhood and his sister Bella is married to one of the Brotherhood and has a young baby. Rehv has a sinister reputation so he seemed to be the best person to hire to kill Wrath, King and leader of the Brotherhood but he also has a deadly secret of being half sympathy. If his identity was found out, it could lead to his banishment to a colony for Sympaths.
Rehvenge does what he has to, to keep his identity a secret including meeting blackmail demands from the Princess of the Sympaths who is also is half sister. Once a month, Rehv must meet the Princess where he pays her off with jewel and sex, but the venom the Princess has on her body is slowly breaking him down and it takes him longer and longer to recover. When in the hospital looking for more drugs to subdue his sympath side, he meets Elhena. She finds herself falling for Rehv but she tries to fight it and Rehv tries to keep her away as he thinks that she’s too good for him but the good side of Rehv starts to show through and they are drawn to each other.
It took me awhile to warm up to Rehvenge but I must say, I really started to like him as the story goes on. He sacrifices a lot to keep those around him, Elhena, Xhex, Bella, his mother safe but the dark side of what he does to protect them comes out but he does come through as a good person…overall.
