I suppose 3 solid stars will do. :/

Granted, this book was way better than the first but oddly enough, you could take out all the CIA fodder and put in any plot and probably get the same result.

Once again, I'm disappointed with this author, but less so, for what it's worth.

Just like the first book, this one wasn't a page turner by any means but again, I've read way worse. It's just disappointing reading books with story lines that have so much potential but end up being poorly executed.

As for stuff I did like. The storyline and plot this time around definitely drew me in a lot more. I cared more about what happened to these characters and secondary characters like Austin and Gwen were also a lot more fulfilling. And thank God Brady actually had some balls compared to Garrett in the first book. Brady had a better head on his shoulders and his conflicts were thorough and understandable instead of being all over the place utilizing an overuse of exclamations that made him seem completely dramatic.

As it is, this book is also a standalone and I'm thankful for that. It means I can tell you to skip the first book and enjoy this one. I feel my reasons for not being too partial to it are due more to personal taste but I could see someone really loving this one.

I'm on the fence about whether I'll read the third book. I really like Austin's crude humor and Gwen's indifference to it as well as the dynamic between Austin caring for not only Gwen, but Emma as well. I would like to see that one play out but I'm apprehensive as to the author's ability to really flush it out. I suppose only time will tell.
