The Avatar’s Jewel by @authornamasvi

Rating 3/5

“A swan can differentiate between milk and water

Brace yourself for a journey so chaotic that it will make you feel sad, happy and confused. All at the same time. In this melting pot of what seems like Percy Jackson meets Brahmastra,

Considering it is a premise of sorts, this book does get a few things down correctly. One of them being the stakes, right from the first chapter you’ll know how legendary and infamous the Avatar’s Jewel is. The dominance it has and the lust of people who’re after it. Then we follow the naga prince for a while. And this is where the author plays a very clever yet subtle trick, making us believe its their story while brewing something altogether different in the background.

Right from the plains of Naga Yagna you’ll be thrown into the great heights of Himalayas, where Rudra resides. And the rest of the book is about him, and him only. Of how he gets invited one of the most prestigious institutions in the world. The cause? Unknown. Much of the book is shrouded in its own mystery and it does feel like a chokehold at times. It might have worked with a few more pages but I guess the author has some other ideas for the books that come in later.

All in all, the book was some hits and a few subtle misses for me. While it did have the heart in the right place, I felt the execution could have been a tad bit better. Still, it’s a solid foundation that has the heart of becoming a full series. Do check it out if you like little children going on big journeys. Because this might be one you won’t forget.

Eager to read more from the author, till then, zeph out.
