'The Gruffalo's Child' By Julia Donaldson

A fantastic sequel to the story 'The Gruffalo'. In the original Gruffalo story the Gruffalo tells his daughter a story about a ‘Big Bad Mouse�. In 'The Gruffalo's Child' she is intrigued and decides to go and look for this ‘big bad mouse� to see for herself if it is real or not. She tiptoes out of her cave whilst her father is sleeping and into the woods where she meets many different animals along the way. When she finally comes across the mouse it fools her into thinking it is very big and scary. As it climbs onto a branch in a hazel tree the moon shines and makes a large shadow on the ground. The Gruffalo's child quickly hurries back to her cave to be with her father and eventually falls asleep.

This book is appropriate for ages 3-7 i like to use it for general carpet time and to demonstrate the skill of rhyme to children. It is also a great book to use in literacy lessons when asking the children to write a different ending for it.
