These Broken Stars (Starbound, #1)

Right at this moment I don't know how I feel about this book. The first half was pretty slow, and as a veteran of the military there were several parts that made me groan because no one carries classified intel in an emergency grab bag, especially not 18-year-old field-promoted Majors who are not in the intelligence field.
It was interesting, though. The twist was a surprise, and I was intrigued enough to keep reading until the end. And enough to make me want to read the next two. The writing was good, the worldbuilding was interesting (except, you know, for the parts where the writers obviously didn't do their research or thought watch a TV show was enough research) and I liked the characters. Stories that basically hinge on a romance are really not my favorite, but this one was alright.

"Classified intel would never be kept in a grab bag like that, and this character has zero reason to be carrying classified intel anyway."
