The Hunter (Cal Hooper, #2)

Of all the suspense writers working today, for me Tana French's books are the consistently most enjoyable, I think because she does such a great job of creating characters. And this book is another masterpiece. All these characters are memorable and distinctive from one another, they have big personalities that don't sacrifice credulity, they're all sympathetic without always being likable or simplistic. The scene-setting is evocative, the world-building is ambitious. The plot moves forward just enough to keep the pages turning, but the plot isn't really the thing here, it's basically one long MacGuffin. The point of a Tana French book is simply to live in that world for a while.
