I liked this book much more than I did the first installment, The Iron Duke. Mostly because Yasmeen and Archimedes are much better character. This book is steampunk and as such, is ridiculous beyond belief, but if you manage to suspend disbelief for a few hundred pages, it's very entertaining.
I remember being at Wondercon in 2008 at seeing the stand where they were selling the steampunk paraphernalia and thinking it was so cool, but I never though it would be such a movement.
Going back to the book, I particularly like the absence of the typical super-macho "I-must-have-you" attitude and it's counterpart "I want the super macho so much, but I must resist because pseudoplot".
Yasmeen and Archimedes are truly above all that and it makes them such refreshing characters, is incredible. The way it started I was worried Yasmeen would prove to be stupidly stubborn, and Archimedes' lay back attitude would last until he got teh lovezz and teh overprotectinezz, but I was happily proven wrong.
