Where'd You Go, Bernadette

This was the first book in almost a year that I finished in two nights - it was that entertaining.
Sure, the story was a teeny bit far fetched, the ending a little too tidy and sudden, but Semple masters two very compelling elements of this book. First, her ability to grow absurdly two-dimensional characters into multi-faceted, breathing (on the page) humans while keeping others hilariously stereotypical is commendable. The second element is Semple's greatest talent - her use of POV. It is so effective that the reader is compelled to keep going, if only to find out what the next bit of distorted gossip will be. Finally, I can't help but reply to some of the naysayers who have poo-pooed the characters - I have experience working with both artists (job) and beyond-involved moms (school) and I didn't find Bernadette or the other characters so off the mark to be implausible. Read and enjoy!
