Well I am at a loss of words to start this review because this book is not a destination which you complete but basically it a journey which you undertake, and like a journey sometimes you go down sometimes you go up the same thing happens when you start with Perdido street station. The only word which comes to my mind after finishing this book is Awesome!!
Mieville takes you into the city of New Corbuzon which is dictatorially ruled by its parliament, the city itself is dark polluted and dangerous but it draws you in and it becomes like dream shit you just can't get enough of new corbuzon. The one thing which has to be given to Mieville is that his imagination has no bounds, the city is filled by all types of mutations which you can think of or even dream of in your nightmares.

The city has a frog like species called Vodanai which can create heliotypes,it has a bug faced but human bodied khepri which can make statues from its glands and if you thought this is weird you can't even imagine the remade, who are basically some punished for their crimes by having thier bodies created in all sort of ways like hands jutting from chests or having heads rolled in angles of 180 degrees.

I imagined the city like star wars meets our new age cities where we have different races from star wars traveling our day to day polluted, dirty and corrupt cities.
Regarding the story I think the main protagonist of this story is Yaghrek a garuda who approaches a rebel scientist called as Issac and asks him to work for him and this takes Issac into a journey from Metaphysics to Unified field theory.Tagging along in this journey with him is his girl friend Lin who herself is a rebel khepri artist, and who gets involved in the dangerous underworld of new corbuzon by agreeing to work for Mr Motely who is just a beyond imagination remade.Their friend Derkan also gets involved in their mess and plays an important part in the story, she herlsef is an rebel journalist.

And if this not enough giving them company and support is a huge spider known as weaver, who basically digs weaving and artificial intelligence known as council.and most importantly the city which seems to pervade an atmosphere of dark throughout the pages.
The book is not without some flaws the most irritating of which is author writes very obfuscating words which I was glad my kindle helped me with otherwise I would have read less of the book and more of the dictionary,it even made me think of giving the book 4 stars but the author ended the book in such a superb manner it made me think otherwise.I loved this book so much I even got the 2nd book although I was not done the first.I definitely recommend this book 5/5 stars by me.

"‘I think artists have an ambivalent relationship with drugs. I mean, the whole project’s about unlocking the beast within, right? Or the angel. Whatever. Opening doors one thought were jammed closed. Now, if you do that with drugs, then doesn’t that make the art rather a let-down?"

"For a Weaver, to think was to think aesthetically. To act to Weave was to bring about more pleasing patterns. They did not eat physical food: they seemed to subsist on the appreciation of beauty a beauty unrecognized by humans or other denizens of the mundane plane."
