Sandra | 25822 comments I love Shifters and I'll be picking Tangle of Need (Psy-Changeling, #11) by Nalini Singh as well.

I got it from the library last week and have been hanging to read it, while waiting for the MMP being published later this year.

Sandra | 25822 comments You'll love it Jennifer. Have you read On the Prowl by Patricia Briggs which has the first 70 odd pages of Cry Wolf? If not you should, cause otherwise you'll miss out on how they meet and what happens, which is significant.

Should I read it before I start Cry Wolf?

message 261: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25822 comments Yep!!!! Absolutely. It does come as an ebook, by itself. Think its simply called Alpha & Omega.

Lis | 4029 comments Sandra I took a couple for a test drive and the Viking has my attention, so put me down for Go Fetch! (Magnus Pack, #2) by Shelly Laurenston for my shifter read. I always forget how fun her books are.

Caroline (zombiecazz) | 108 comments Excellent new shelf. Means I can read The Dream Thief (Drakon, #2) by Shana Abé

message 264: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25822 comments Lis, hope you love Conall & Miki. As an aside the scene with the Professor, from her point of view, is in one of the anthologies. You might be able to get it from the library, I'll look it up tomorrow.

Going to bed now. Oh BTW 80% done on Tangle, its soooo gooodddd!!!!

Lis | 4029 comments Go Fetch! (Magnus Pack, #2) by Shelly Laurenston

Finished: Go Fetch! by Shelly Laurenston
Shelf: Shifters
Read: 7/8/2012
Pages: Rating: ★★★★
To-Be-Continued? Yes

Review: Now this was a fun read. This is the second of the three friends to be pursued by a shifter. Miki has everything planned out, she's headed to the university to defend her thesis and become Dr Kendrick. Then she is going to teach at the university and marry fellow professor Troy and have her normal, smart life. Then comes the huge Viking wolf Conall and her plan doesn't seem so easy anymore. I loved this read, genius, hacker, Miki makes Lisbeth seem tame. Her and Connal's banter is a hoot and the steam level is smokin'...

Lis | 4029 comments Had a double score Sandra... Went to find my copy of Here Kitty, Kitty! and found When He Was Bad (Includes Magnus Pack, #4) by Shelly Laurenston which has Professor Conridge's story, yay! Also found out I also had Hex Hall which I didn't remember buying in my Borders hoarding frenzy.

message 267: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25822 comments Yep, that was the book I was thinking of, glad you've already got it.

I know all about buyers hording frenzy, I went through the same when my local Borders closed as well :)

I've finished Tangle, just need to get my thoughts in order to do the review.

Sandra | 25822 comments Tangle of Need (Psy-Changeling, #11) by Nalini Singh
Shifter Shelf
9/7/12 ★★★★

This book is one mess of Tangles. An emotional rollercoaster all the way through.

It isn't simply a case of boy wolf, Riaz, meets girl wolf Adria, and there's happiness all around. Nooooo, Riaz has already met his destined mate, a human, who is happily married to another human. So he is an emotional mess and comes home to the pack to try and deal with it.

Adria, on the other hand has also just come back to the pack to try and deal with her own baggage. A longterm relationship which failed, with a less dominant wolf.

This is one of the most intricate books in the series, we see just about everyone that has already had their own book and everyday pack life, together with a whole lot of Arrows and Kaleb and his quest. The Pure Psy and the Alliance also fill a large space as the Psy Civil War is about to erupt.

What I enjoyed most was the way Hawke & Siennna are growing into their mating, the giving and taking. Sienna gets to learn the way the pack works so she can help Hawke and show them she is one of them at the same time. What I enjoyed least was the Riaz/Adria show but I totally understand it.

Now I'm desperate to see what happens next with Alice, with the mysterious woman Kaleb is after and the coming War.

message 272: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4029 comments Yay Sandra! Good luck Sue, TON has a lot of cross stories happening, gets a little confusing at times. It was the 2nd audio of the series I downloaded and listened to it twice to catch all the action.

message 273: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25822 comments Certainly has a lot of background on pack life as well as all the story lines to keep track of.

JenniJenni | 294 comments Cry Wolf (Alpha & Omega, #1) by Patricia Briggs

Cry Wolf
Shifter Shelf
10 July 12
★★

I know a lot people like this book, but I just couldn't get in to it. Anna was an awkward character. Her role as Omega was strange. Some parts of the story came across as cheesy...like when she sang and all the wolves calmed down. I didn't have a problem with Charles, he served a purpose in the story.  I guess the storyline just didn't move me. The novella that comes before this book was much more interesting and left me excited to read the next in the series. Boy, that sure fell short.

Anywho, the writing style was pretty solid. The only thing that bothered me was the author's use of "ditch-water brown" hair. I could have sworn the phrase should be "dish-water." I know, silly, but one of my pet peeves.  I will have to put in a lot of thought as to whether or not I continue with the series.

message 278: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25822 comments Sorry, Anna didn't grab you Jennifer, and yes I'm used to dish-water, but I suppose ditch-water would still work. It'd still be brown. LOL.

I'm pretty sure Anna is meant to be an awkward character, no one really knows the power of an Omega because they are so rare. As the series goes on she does come into her own.

message 279: by JenniJenni (new)

JenniJenni | 294 comments I sure do come across as a Negative Nancy in my reviews...I'm really not one. I guess it's because I'm reading books I wouldn't normally read. I'm trying not to start the books with a preconceived notion as to how it will be. I don't seem to be doing a good job with that. I really did like the novella y'all suggested I read before I started Cry Wolf. Thanks for the suggestion!

message 280: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25822 comments Jennifer, what sort of books are you used to reading?

message 281: by JenniJenni (new)

JenniJenni | 294 comments It's easier to list what I don't care to read:

Shifters as the main characters
YA
Zombies
Historical Fanasty

message 282: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25822 comments Well, I'm not partial to YA or Zombies or most Historical Fantasy, but I do love Shifters :)

message 283: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4029 comments Jennifer I felt that way about Anna too early on in the series. But I had also read her Mercy series first and knew she could create a strong female lead. Anna is a little wimpy and disappointing at first, but i think she did this on purpose since Anna was so abused by her first pack. She did grow on me over the next two books and gets stronger, its fun to see her relationship with Charles since he's been such a loner and Brans enforcer.

message 284: by Lis (last edited Jul 11, 2012 04:53PM) (new)

Lis | 4029 comments Not big on YA either. Just read a few with Zombies, but I like the post-Apocolyptic ones like Sophie Littlefields series Aftertime, might be because I discovered the first season of Walking Dead on Netflix. Makes you think about what would I do to survive if there was a big disaster, beyond ohhhh no, I'd need a solar charger for my kindle.

I'm not that big on the demon or fae books, but they seem to be creeping in to more series. And Moning's Fever series is one of my favs. Also not big on alien alphas that come to earth to kidnap mates and then share with their warrior buddies, really?

One of the reasons I got back into reading was Gabaldon's Outlander series, so I still like disappearing with a scottish highlander or two, they are just so alpha and protective.

message 285: by Sue (new)

Sue (knitwitsl) | 96 comments Sandra did a good job of reviewing this book, but I will try to do a decent review as well.

Tangle of Need
Shelf: Shifter
Finished: July 11
Rating: 4/5

I enjoyed learning more about the Psy and Hawke and Sienna's relationship, but I do wish there was a bit more about Riaz an Adria. I realize they both come from broken relationships, but I didn't really feel like I got to know them as well as other couples in previous books. That said, I did enjoy the story and the writing. And I also can't wait to find out more about Alice. This is one of my favorite series still!

I apologize for any typos. I am doing this review from my Kindle Fire, and between the auto -correct and not being able to page through the book as I do my review, I worry that it makes sense! But I didn't want to start up my computer this late or wait until tomorrow to write my review!

message 286: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25822 comments An excellent review Sue, and no worries on auto-correct :)

Alice is definitely a puzzle!

message 287: by Sue (new)

Sue (knitwitsl) | 96 comments How is everyone doing waiting for the next shelf? I was trying to hold off on my dragon book, but I really wanted to read it (plus it's a library book), so I started the Naked Dragon and also (another library book - this one digital so I have to finish before it's due!) The Godwulf Manuscript. I've been reading the digital one on my computer during my lunch hour, and the dragon book at night. I'm enjoying both of them, and will try hard to finish them both by Saturday so I can start on my next shelf book when it's announced (hopefully something I can pick from one of my many library books that all seemed to come up from hold at the same time)!

message 288: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4029 comments Welllll... My kindle has been hijacked by my technology challenged hubbie... He's got it in his head he's missing out on some enlightening material that some ladies informed him could be found in 50 shades. I'm struggling with the fact that he's invading my space, my kindle and MY chick lit.

So I'm reading my buddy read and a few paperbacks and hidiing in other rooms.

message 289: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25822 comments LOL Lis! Those 50 books keep making the news here but I'm not interested in badly written stuff (read a couple of really good reviews early on) and I let my views be known. So my hubby doesn't know of all the other risque stuff I've got on the puter. LOL.

Yep, hanging for the next shelf - a bit under 24 hrs to go.

Caroline, how's your book going? I must admit that Dream Thief isn't one of my favs, though I did read the first 3 in the series.

message 294: by Sue (new)

Sue (knitwitsl) | 96 comments I checked my other library books for this shelf, and oddly enough one person shelved Coyote Dreams under ghosts. So, I'll be starting that this afternoon!!

And Lis, my coworker wasn't sure that she wanted to read 50 Shades, until her husband did! So now she's read the first two and on to the third! As for me, I read the first one just because I like to know what people are talking about. I've read more explicit books and the characters were okay. But my coworker said the second one is better, so it's on hold at my library as well.

So instead I'll go with Second Grave on the Left (Charley Davidson, #2) by Darynda Jones . Probably won't get to it till later tonight as I'm about to go running around and do lots of errands & shopping :)
