I have heard so many people use Matthew 6:5-8 against Tim Tebow!!
It just doesn't seem relevant to me.
What about the verse in Matthew that says..

"Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels."
Matthew 8:38

Alissa (keykeeper) 'Tis certainly a shame when Christians bash one of the most outspoken Christians of our day.:( Matt. 6:5-8 was telling people not to be like the Pharisees of their day, people who used religion for their own personal gain. It had NOTHING to do about witnessing or being proud to proclaim the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior. Jesus proclaimed the truth in public quite often, so I don't think that is what He meant when Matt. 6:5-8 was said.

Kristen If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
John 15:18

People will always find a way to misuse the Bible against those who are actually living it.
If Tim Tebow were loudly proclaiming that he were gay or in favor of abortion, those same people would applaud.
The fact is, Satan hates anything and anyone who is acting in a godly manner, and influences people to do the same.

I think it's funny how people know so little about the Bible, and presume to be experts on it. It's the same crowd who like to quote the 'judge not' verse and conveniently leave off the rest of the passage.

Matthew 6:5-8 is talking about the Pharisees. If you know anything about the Pharisees, you know they were religious but didn't know anything about God. All they ever did was try to impress people with how spiritual they are, when in reality, they weren't spiritual at all.

I don't really follow sports, but I'm assuming that Mr. Tebow prayed before games, long before he was famous.

We'd be more accurate to compare him with Daniel, who prayed openly, despite the law against it, and was thrown to the lions. Daniel didn't start praying when the law was made to show people how godly he was. He already prayed every day, in that way and decided he wasn't going to change because of a law, because God was more important to him.

The simple fact is, when people are truly following God and living a Christian life, it shows. And that's something that the World can't stand.
