I finished Blameless the other day - have to request the rest of the series from the library - and am now taking a break from fiction to read NurtureShock: New Thinking About Children. It's very interesting and definitely thought-provoking, as both a parent and a teacher.
Also still working on The Complete Oz in bits and pieces on my kindle :)

Then maybe on to Legacy of Kings, just because it will be awesome. And I might get around to finishing Ship of Destiny, if I'm lucky.
I'm working my way through The Shadow Rising and then I think it will be either another Honorverse book or Snow Crash for our group read. Then I will be tackling the next Wheel of Time book.

When I'm through with those in a couple of days, it's on to The Killing Moon for our group read here, followed by Parnassus on Wheels for the Novella Club, then back to sf/f with Yellow Blue Tibia, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, Oryx and Crake, and a re-read of Stories of Your Life and Others. Then a bit of historical fiction to cap the month - The Red Tent.
I am also slowly chewing away at The Shadow of the Wind, a 3-month group project I need to have done by the end of October.

Would like to read Snow Crash with the group, but I've never managed to read anything by Neal Stephenson.
Need to decide if I'm going to read Prince of Thorns, but that probably depends on whether or not I like Snow Crash...

I *loved* The Red Tent :)

You really should read it. Its fast pace, and filled with action unlike other books of his.

Red Tent was excellent, I had a chance to read it with a book club earlier this year. It's a great book for discussion.

I'm also plugging away at Accelerando, but I'm finding it hard to want to pick it up and continue reading.

That's next on my list!

I finished NurtureShock: New Thinking About Children and am now more than a third of the way through Eon: Dragoneye Reborn, which I'm really enjoying.

I think it has to do more with the glacial pace of Martin's writing as opposed to the actual writing itself

Started on Pratchett's Guards! Guards!
So far pretty good.

It's an interesting series. Great premise and the action & dialogue scenes are fun. It can drag a bit in places, however, in typical Weber descriptive monologue style.
IMO, if you've read and enjoyed his other work, you'll probably enjoy it.

In the meantime I am also reading A World History by Clive Ponting, but it is taking a backseat to fiction!

I believe you're correct. I'm certainly not zipping through it like I did the first three. Hope I feel more involved with Dance of Dragons!

You can still comment on Snow Crash in the discussion threads. I'd like to read any and all ideas, positive or negative.

I finished The Shadow Rising (started it before the Olympics in August!!). Next up is Snow Crash. Then I'll either go back to the Honorverse with Torch of Freedom or back to the Wheel of Time with The Fires of Heaven, probably Wheel of Time since I'm already more than a month behind in that group read in another GR group.

I have have read and love the 1st 2 books..The wait for the 3rd is killing me lol..

Up soon:
A Storm of Swords
Tau Zero
Black Powder War
Fortress of Eagles
Warhost of Vastmark
Sky Coyote
and something from the stack of books by Joan Slonczewski
As you can see, I'm trying to read books #2/3/4 in a series -- I often will read only the 1st book in a series, and then not get around to books #2+, even if I LLLOOOVVVEEE book #1. The lure of something brand new ......
I've started and tossed Snow Crash twice and so I'll give it a pass. The other BOTM, I'm going to wait until it's out as a mass market paperback.

LOL, I hear you. I have the same thing. I read the first book and never continue one with the rest. Even though I rushed out and picked up the rest of the series

I like it.

Hi Harriett :) It seems a lot of people feel the same way about that book. I liked it too. I have the next book here and will be reading it after I plow through some of the group reads.
Have you heard anything about when the 3rd book will be out? I hope it's just a trilogy. There's nothing that drives me crazier than waiting year after year for the next book release, with no idea when it will end. I made that mistake with Robert Jordan's wheel of time series.

I just finished Sarah's Key (historical fiction about the holocaust); I almost couldn't read it, it was so devastating. I think next I might pick up the copy of The Eye of the World that I won in a FirstReads giveaway.

Shel, be careful with The Eye of the World . Once you start it's hard to put down. Not to mention it's part of a 15 book series and the author died after writing book 11. Even if you don't finish, the first 3 books are definitely worth reading. The Eye of the World is easily my favorite fantasy book.

I can't wait to read this book.

Tim, I've actually read it and made it through the first 7 books of the series before losing interest, years ago. It's been a VERY long time, and I've been mildly curious about what happens next, so maybe winning this giveaway will give me the impetus to try again.
When I sat down to read last night, though, I was so tired that a gigantic book like that felt like too big of an undertaking, so instead I picked up a memoir that's been sitting on my shelf for a while:
A Blistered Kind of Love: One Couple's Trial by Trail, which was a gift.

I just got my copy today from Amazon, and started reading it. So good so far.

That's funny Shel, I made it exactly 7 books into that series myself before I gave up on it. I just tried reading book 12 The Gathering Storm and couldn't get past the first 100 pages. There were so many characters, most of whom I had no idea existed. The storyline seems bloated and got away from the core storyline of the original children from the village. Despite that, the first 3 books were so good I still think they're worth reading on their own.
