Sandra (sleo) | 1913 comments Comment here if you're planning to read the October group choice.

I've downloaded a sample, as it looks interesting and I'll give it a try.

Jennifer (jennifer_crow) | 16 comments I'm about halfway through myself, and looking forward to the discussion.

carol. Waiting to get it from the library... on the list. :) Can't wait to read it.

Mike (mj_lang) | 6 comments I will be downloading it tonight. Interesting concept.

Jon (jonmoss) | 529 comments I requested that two (2) of my local libraries ordered this book back in August. One of them actually did and I have a hold on it. As soon as I get it from the library, I will join the discussion.

Adrianna [SypherLily] (sypherlily) | 59 comments I've had my copy from the library and I plan to read it next :) I'm excited, the premise seems interesting!

Anna-louise | 81 comments I've it ready and waiting. This isn't a sub genre i have really read so i'm going into it with an open mind. I'll probably love it, I hope i do. :)

message 8: by Bev (new) - added it

Bev (greenginger) | 744 comments I dont plan on reading this as there is no kindle version in the Uk, it is not in the libraries and it is too expensive in hardback. There are no second hand copies to be had either. I am guessing that this is a fairly new book and in the US is easily accessible?

Evilynn | 106 comments I'm also moving this month, but I'm going to try to cram in Libriomancer along with my WOT re-read.

Adrianna [SypherLily] (sypherlily) | 59 comments Bev, yes it's easily accessible here in the US :(
Anna-Louise, how'd you get it? Bought it?

Ah well I will read it when it becomes more readily available. Thanks

I Brought the hard back,it was more expensive then i usually would spend on a book but i really fancied reading it. But sadly yes its the only version us UK peoples can join in with.

That's too bad! I wonder how we'd check to see if books are available worldwide?

message 14: by Valerie (new)

Valerie Zambito Just purchased and plan to get started this week!

I dont know either but it is a problem on several groups for me. Very sad

Jamie Marchant (jamiemarchant) | 38 comments I'm planning on reading. My first book as part of the group.

Candace (cprimackqcom) I'm halfway through. I loved the concept so I bought instead of borrowed and I regret that choice so far. I'll do details elsewhere but one big first impression is that is has the atmosphere of a YA book to me. The writing can be confusing at times, oops I meant to stop at just one impression for now!

message 18: by Jim (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jim | 21 comments I'm planning on joining in and am looking forward to it. But I'm in the middle of Deadhouse Gates at the moment. I'm enjoying Erikson quite a bit, but the books are definitely not a quick read for me.

Adrianna [SypherLily] (sypherlily) | 59 comments For some reason the group home page still says we are reading HMD?

Anna-louise | 81 comments Adrianna wrote: "For some reason the group home page still says we are reading HMD?"

I just noticed the too Adrianna, you beat me too it :)

I've read about a third, and I agree it has somewhat of a YA feel to it, as if things aren't really that serious.

Bojana (bpop) I'm done with about 2/3 of the book. It is great, although it doesn't feel like YA to me. It is very geeky, and there are a lot of references to a ton of SF and fantasy novels. Lots of cool weapons and potions as well :)

message 25: by Bev (new) - added it

Bev (greenginger) | 744 comments I guess peoples actual ages may determine if the book feels YA or not. For example someone like me (40's) may see something as YA, whereas someone in their early twenties may not.Just a thought.

Jamie Marchant (jamiemarchant) | 38 comments Bev wrote: "I guess peoples actual ages may determine if the book feels YA or not. For example someone like me (40's) may see something as YA, whereas someone in their early twenties may not.Just a thought."

I'm in my 40s, too.

message 27: by Jute (new) - rated it 2 stars

Jute I'm curious about Jamie's comment that implies a YA feel is a book that isn't serious.

I don't really know what's YA and what isn't, but I thought a book like The Hunger Games was considered YA and that's about something relatively serious. Yes?

I honestly am interested in the YA thing, since I never paid any attention and it seems to be something that I should know about.

message 28: by Bev (new) - added it

Bev (greenginger) | 744 comments Hi Jute there has been loads of debate about the YA genre. Some feel it is to do with more simplistic writing, or aimed at younger people. Some think it is less likely to contain sex and violence but that does not seem to fit either.

My take on a YA book is that often the story is aimed at a younger audience and is therefore often tied up with teenage angst or themes which are important to a younger reader and not necessarily to an older reader.

But hey what do I know maybe I am an old fart who liked books written in a set way??? :) :)

Its great isnt it? I also notice that Candace suggested a YA slant and peeping at her home page suggests she isnt a teenager either. Sorry Candace!

Could be. Also, I am kind of childish when it comes to books, so a book about books would feel like my age, not matter how old I am :)

I don't know if "serious" was the right word to use. It just I have a hard time thinking of Isaac as an adult. The way he acts seems somehow teenagerish. I have to keep reminding myself that he's not a kid. Does anyone know how old the author is?

His GR page says he was born April 15, 1974

Adrianna [SypherLily] (sypherlily) | 59 comments I'm only 10 pages in and I'm already turned off by sparkling vampires. This book has a lot of redeeming to do.

Maybe on nomination threads members not in country book initially published in could comment if book not available them.

Otherwise, the only thing I know to do is run book title thru a few country sites for big box booksellers that sell in more than one country. With amazon for example, amazon.com, amazon.de, amazon.fr, amazon.co.uk or whatever.

Unless WorldCat specifies?

Debbie, if the majority have voted for this book then just read it. I have made comments before in other clubs about the book being unavailable and it just upsets people, who think I am being unfair.

Don't worry about it just bear in mind that new releases in the US often have not reached us here in the UK.

Valerie Zambito So sorry, but will not be able to get to this book as planned. Enjoy your discussions!

Michael (michaeljsullivan) It's getting toward the end of the month but this finaly got to the top of my TBR pile. I'm looking foward to it.

Evilynn | 106 comments I only started this just now. In part because apparently Kindle versions of the newer WOT books aren't allowed in my part of the world (WTF?), and I need something a bit less brick-y to read on the subway. ;) So far I am charmed by the little fire spider.

message 42: by Jon (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jon (jonmoss) | 529 comments I checked this out from the library before last weekend and started it within a day or two. I'm within fifty pages of finishing.

I'm not getting a YA feel for this, meaning I don't know that this was targeted for a younger audience (younger as in teenage through early 20s). I do get a heavy nostalgia and geek vibe, reminiscent of Ready Player One, just not so 80s focused.

I'm not a fan of paranormal or urban fantasy (unless written by Charles de Lint for the latter), so vampires are like my second least favorite character cliche (the first being zombies - ugh). I do love the dryad though. She rocks (or should that be woods? or trees?). :)

I hope to finish this today and will post more comments in the 'finished reading' thread then.

Evilynn | 106 comments I'm 15% through it, and it doesn't read YA to me either. It's an easy read, sure, but so are the Dresden Files books, and I don't think I've ever heard anyone call those YA.

RuthAnn | 35 comments I've been reading these comments and I'm wondering--worth it for $11.99 on Kindle or no? Please advise :)

Jute RuthAnn wrote: "I've been reading these comments and I'm wondering--worth it for $11.99 on Kindle or no? Please advise :)"

I think that's a difficult question to answer, since reading is always such a personal sort of thing. I'd say look at someone's review who seems to like the same types of books as you.

Jamie Marchant (jamiemarchant) | 38 comments RuthAnn wrote: "I've been reading these comments and I'm wondering--worth it for $11.99 on Kindle or no? Please advise :)"

My opinion is no, but I'm sure others would disagree.

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) I'd suggest reading downloaded sample and deciding. Too much if you don't get into; reasonable if you'll enjoy (reasonable until out in paperback that is; sometimes the ebook prices lag behind paperback release).

message 48: by Jon (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jon (jonmoss) | 529 comments RuthAnn wrote: "I've been reading these comments and I'm wondering--worth it for $11.99 on Kindle or no? Please advise :)"

I finished it and I'm glad I did NOT spend $12 on buying the book.

Not a bad read, but not a great read, or at least one that I would have shelled out more than ten bucks for.

Evilynn | 106 comments 11.99? Oh the joys of being a European, I got to shell out $16 for my Kindle version.

Ditto. I got mine from the library, which was great. I might pay 50 cents for it in overdue fines, as its a newer book and I waited to read with the group. :)

In my book reviews, a determination of star rating is often influenced by whether or not I would buy it, and whether or not I must own it. A lot of my threes are "borrow-library-worthy."
