Which author writes the best sexy/racy scenes?

I love Sherrilyn Kenyon's scenes because they are not that unbelievable. For the most part, it can all be done by normal folks lol. I mean, have you read Night Embrace?? lol. And I also love Kresley Cole. Although she does tend to overdo the virginal character turning into the wanton woman. But still... very entertaining.

I am REALLY really loving Kenyons scenes.. Not just the sex scenes.. ALL of it.

The stories she writes are just so damn good and amazing I find myself sometimes with tears in certain parts and that to me is proof of a good writer

Sherrilyn Kenyon is good. I read the first of the Psy/Changling series and really like Nalini Singh's writing.

I'd probably also list Gena Showalter.

I also love Kenyon and agree she can write a great scene. I'll throw in a vote for J.R. Ward. Both Z and V had some pretty awesome scenes! *** Potential Spoiler alert for Lover Enshrined *** And the scene with Qhuinn and Blay? That didn't even involve sex but was still HOT!

I also kind of like Lynsay Sands.. her scenes are always so cute. and at the end I always go "awwww" lol.

I have to ditto 3 of the authors already mentioned: Sherrilyn Kenyon, Karen Marie Moning and Jeaniene Frost. One of the main things that I love about all 3 of them is that their books aren't just about sex! I mean, they have hot sex scenes but they also write these stories that just pull you in. There are so many others out there that write romances with no real story. It just seems like the story is put there to move you from one sex scene to another. I hate those kinds of books, they just seem to be a waste of my time!

Yes Kelley Anne! I totally agree.

The sex is good mind you, but the story line and the humor that these authors are known to write are SOO much better.

Kelley Anne I agree with you on Sherrilyn Kenyon but I have not yet read the highlander series and Karen Marie Moning for faefever does not do it for me.

I think I like Larissa Ione the best especially with Pleasure Unbound IMHO she wrote a really interesting story with sex and sexual tension plus I felt like the erotic scenes were part of the story and not just added for the sake of erotica.

Dawn - Moning's fever series is great (in my opinion) but completely different from her Highlander series. The highlander series is firmly in the Paranormal Romance genre, heavy emphasis on romance. While her fever series is more urban fantasy. If you like Sherrilyn Kenyon, I think that you would really enjoy her highlander series.

I'm still waiting for my first highlander book.. it's coming from PBS. and it's really slow moving lol. I'm anxiously awaiting it!

That is what I heard Kelley Anne and I can kind of see how it is true from the hints she has in the faefever series.

So I was reading last night, and I was reminded exactly why it is that I love reading books by Kenyon, Moning, and Frost. While they write amazing love scenes, they also give you some great story to sink your teeth into!

Someone recommened to me that I read the Breed Series by Lora Leigh. So, I got the first three from the library and read the first one, Tempting the Beast, last night. First off, I have to say that she does write extemely hot love scenes, but there wasn't really any story to back it up! I mean, the premise of the books could be really exciting, suspense filled with some great romance in the middle of it, but it wasn't! Since I already have the other 2, I'll probably try them out, see if things start to get better, but if not, I sure wont be reading the 19 books in this series.

I've only read one of her Nauti series, and I wasn't that impressed with it. There wasn't that much story behind it either.

I think I have the first of her breed series on my list, but if it's that bad I won't bother lol.

I'll let you know if the next 2 get any better. I mean, there is some GREAT potential in the world that she set up, but none of it was really explored! It was nothing but sex. If the next ones aren't any better, I wouldn't recommend bothering with them. Unless of course you are in the mood to read a completely guilty pleasure book and just focus on the sex and no story. but personally, I need the story or the rest just falls flat for me!

I read Fairyville by Emma Holly and wow I think she writes the best scenes especially the M/M and the M/M/F and the M/F. Erotica with a plot nice! Can I also share I thought it was interesting how she made this story about two couple but four relationships and person has something to overcome it was real bonus that the men were not effeminate in any way.

So now I think I have a tie between Larissa Ione and Emma Holly.

Dawn- I have read Ione... she does do some great scenes. I have Fairyville on my TBR list so I am excited that you say she does good too. Now I want to read that soon so I can compare!

I think the Breed books got MUCH better. The first one I had read was Megan's Mark and decided to read more. I read the next 2 in the series, then went back to the beginning and I can honestly say the earlier books were not the best. I think if you keep reading you won't be disappointed.

That's good to know. I actually have copies of most of the ebooks of this series, so I keep telling myself to give them another try, but I really don't want to keep reading if they don't get any better. But since it sounds like they do, I'll try them again. I have some free time later this week and I'll read the next few then.

Yeah, especially if you already have them. I loved Dawn's Awakening. It was dark, but also very sweet. A lot of people either loved that one or hated it. It was one of the few that actually had me crying.

Elizabeth's Wolf was another great one.

I'm glad you're liking them. They really do get much better. There are two coming out soon, Cabal's story in August or September, then Jonas' story in 2010. Jonas is the one I want to read. I can't wait to see him get his fanny handed to him on a platter by his mate. HA!

I just read a few books by Lauren Dane and she is definitely a great writer.

Also Jaci Burton has great scenes. I like her biker series :)

So I've been reading a few more of the Lora Leigh books. I am enjoying the series better, but I have found that Leigh leaves a lot of holes in the story. And they are ones that are driving me crazy! Like at the end of the second book, The Man Within, they talk about Roni's real father and him wanting to see her. He and his son even make a small appearance in another book, but nothing is ever really resolved or explained. Some of the individual books are pretty good, but the stories just seem to leave holes!

I believe that Roni does get resolved in another book...Dawn's Awakening...no that's not the one. Roni is step sister to Seth, who ends up being Dawn's mate and Roni ends up with... gosh, I think I remember but don't want to spoil it for you. But it does get resolved.

And yes, the writing, the stories, do get better.

Totally depends on what you're in the mood for. I liked the Breeds series when I wanted really Alpha Males with a twist.

Right now I'm reading her Military series' Tempting SEALS and Elite/SpecialOPs. There's also a new series she is starting, the Wounded Heroes. The first novella came out today in an anthology called Real Men Last All Night.

Then of course, if you want some heavy sexuality, you can read the Bound Hearts series.

I think it is imperative for the story line to be good otherwise the sex scenes are just boring. I love the Brotherhood the best but there are a lot out there that yall have mentioned that I have yet to read. Right now have been reading the Dark Hunter series. I like it but so far the only one that has seemed "hot" to me has been the one about Zarek and the Werehunters. I think I just like really bad boys being tammed or something I dunno know. Also, I think that if the writer uses stupid words to describe a sex scene it will kill it for me. I want to know why such a beautiful sounding word like "clitoris" is replaced with things like her "nub" and her "cleft". BLUCK! I sat there the other night trying to think of other words writers could use that don't gross me out but couldn't think of any better than what it is. Maybe we need to start a thread "Suggestions for other words describing anything with sex". LOL!

I agree, Sara. I want the sexuality to be important to the relationship, the emotional intensity combined with the sexual intensity is what does it for me.

I'm right with you guys! I have to have a great story, not just the sex. I actually really have enjoyed the Dark Hunter series, but I can see where you could say they aren't extremely "hot". They have great stories though, and personally I like the story to sex ratio in them. Give me a few great love scenes and a fantastic story and I'm happy! Have you read Night Play yet? That one and Acheron are probably two of my favorites!

Yes the one with Zarek and Night Play have been my favorites so far. I'm extremely upset with myself right now because I ended with Night Play but they were out of the next one in the series and I had Dark Side Of The Moon from a friend. Well I read it and kicked myself through the whole book because things were reveled that were from the previous books I hadn't read yet. I'm so impatient and have Acheron and it's calling my name but I don't want to ruin it for myself. What do yall think? Should I wait?

I would wait I loved Acheron and a lot more things are reveled in there too.

I've only read the first two of her cowboy books.. I haven't read any of her others yet.

Jeanine Frost scenes are great. I also agree with the J.R Ward and Sherrilyn Kenyon. Amazing!

I love Sherrilyn's balance between her continued world building and her HEA. She never sacrifices plot just to get characters into bed. They always spend time together and have trials to endure together before they end up in each other's arms. It makes me value the relationships more because you really feel the build up. She's also great at tugging heartstrings with her description of each warrior's past. She's not afraid to make you cringe in order to convey the character's personality. But once they're in bed, yum. And all the better for the wait.

On Jeaniene Frost: Bones in particular jumps off the page for me, and while I love that Frost is all about her plot, the scenes she's written for Cat and Bones so far have been so hot I can't help wanting more. Maybe we could have one book where they're on vacation and she just has them devouring each other the whole time, so we can get it out of our systems?

I'm all over the boards praising Karen Chance, so I have to mention her here too, of course! I think her sense of timing is awesome, and she's created a great mix of humor (lots of laugh out loud moments), emotion (I'll admit it-I've sniffled and sighed), and non-stop action. And the sexual tension she creates between some of her characters is just downright delicious. She makes you desperate to reach out and grab these men. My eyes were glued to the page many a time. For a writer that starts off slow in book one, damn did she improve.

Michelle M.: I second your Karen Chance. She is an amazing author, and I can't wait for the next book. However, I wish soon Cassandra would end up with her guy (sorry trying to avoid spoilers). The suspense is killing me!
