Katie (katiehodgkinson) How/Where does everyone like to enjoy a good book?

I personally don't mind where I am, I read everywhere - public transport, whilst watching TV, listening to music, and in a quiet place with a cup of tea or hot chocolate. It's weird, I can read with distractions because it means I concentrate more on the book.

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments I love this topic! I always get good ideas on places to read!

It depends on the day, sometimes I get easily distracted but on others I don't get distracted one bit! I guess it's the book! I personally like to read in my room, on my bed, and outside while listening to the birds chirping. While watching TV, sometimes I read while the commercials are on. I can't listen to music while reading! Sometimes I will bring my books on a walk or into a store to read while waiting in line, because I don't like to waste time!

Yeah, that's a point. It does depend on the book as well. Like now I'm getting totally distracted by everything, I need to shut my laptop when I read really because goodreads, youtube and twitter are extremely distracting, ha! I've never read while waiting in line though, I don't reckon I could do that I'd be a little self conscious.

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments I'm not getting distracted today! We're opposites today! they truly are very distracting! I usually don't read while in line but I have once or twice.

message 5: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 31156 comments I'm with you, Jacquelyn as it depends on the given day and book. When I was doing the challenge I hated distractions! NASCAR in the background does NOT work! LOL I also love reading outdoors, but HATE reading on my bed...to uncomfortable. I love quiet when I read or a soft background of easy string music only.

I'm a fidget generally anyways so wherever I am I'm never comfortable, ha! Constantly moving.

I'm pretty much the opposite! LOL I get nearly glued to my seat. I also enjoy reading MUCH more in natural light and daytime hours than nighttime because my lighting is so bad for reading.

message 8: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments I pretty much read anywhere possible. But my favorite should be under a tree :) or in the bedroom

I cannot read with music or loud noise. So you are more focused than me :)

message 10: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments Vicki- I like reading in natural lights as well. We have terrible lighting at nighttime!

It's really weird - music drowns out people sounds, me reading drowns out the music so I concentrate more. But sometimes I'm totally the opposite, depends if the book is engrossing or not. The book I'm reading at the moment is a right bore so I'm getting distracted easily. I wish I could go outside and read more often...damn you England *shakes fist*

message 12: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments Yes, it all depends on the book! I like to read outside but sometimes the kids in my neighborhood get really loud and obnoxious so it makes it a little hard!

message 13: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments @Katie ~ I shake fist with you also description

message 14: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments I wish I lived near the sea. You know, reading on the beach is the best. I love the sound of the wave and the sea breeze... So peaceful.

Sometime in the future I'd love to live on the coast - it's so peaceful. My friend goes to uni on the coast and it's lovely!

message 16: by Lori (new)

Lori | 16 comments I know its a good book when i can read it anytime anyplace! One time i was reading while my dad was watching an intense action movie in the same room, he said 'how can u read with the movie blasting in your face!?' i was like 'what movie...'
But in most cases ill just read in my room:)

message 17: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments That's funny Lori! Yes, if it's a great book I can really read it anywhere as well!

message 18: by Beatrice (new)

Beatrice (beatricemasalunga) Anywhere. as long as it's quiet.

I love reading with my dog laying next to me as well!

message 21: by Birdie (new)

Birdie (purple_feather22) | 294 comments More often then not I read in bed but I'm not limited to it. In fact I'll read pretty much anywhere: on the couch, at the kitchen table, waiting rooms, the lunch room at work, in the car, on my back patio if its not to cold, waiting in line at the DMV. Pretty much any place that's not to ridiculously loud and people aren't trying to talk to me, I read there.

I can't stand it when people talk to me constantly when they see I'm reading. Read, interrupt, read, interrupt, etc, oh my gosh just tell me what I need to know in one sitting and let me read! :p

message 23: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments I know! I absolutely hate when people talk to me while I'm reading! Like, you can see my trying to concentrate!

message 24: by Tayla (new)

Tayla Potayta (taylapotayta) | 1594 comments I love to read in the bath :)

message 25: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments That sounds so relaxing, Tayla!

message 26: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments I am afraid accident may happen, so I never ever read in the bath

message 27: by Mehsi (new)

Mehsi I don't have a bath, but it sounds lovely to read while being in a bath. Though I would be worried about getting my book wet.

message 28: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments Yeah, I always wanted to try it but that's what I am scared of too: getting my book wet or dropping it!

message 29: by Mehsi (new)

Mehsi Though I tried it once (the reading in a bath). When I was visiting the hospital 3 times a week for treatment. I had to take a bath and while I was in bath (had to be in it for 15 minutes), I read magazines, but I could never relax, since I was trying not to get the magazines wet (which eventhough I was cautious almost always happened). I always threw away the magazines in the end.

Though I heard there are gadgets that will hold your book while you are in bath. Like what some people use for their cooking books, a standard (if that is the correct name).

message 30: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments Really? I never heard of them! I'll have to check them out!

message 31: by Trip (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) Lately I enjoy reading on the bus especially during the evening and mornings when its quiet, I just snuggle up at the back of the bus with my head in a book.
I read pretty much anywhere if i can though, im not really bothered as long as there's no one standing over my shoulder or trying to talk to me.

message 32: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle | 25787 comments I sometimes read in the moving vehicle too, but it usually gives me headache. I prefer listening to audiobooks instead.

I do that too :) although I'm listening to music on the bus as well, I tend to just blank everything out though when doing this! It's a lot more relaxing than it sounds.

message 34: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Tarzwell (kristarz) I like to be cozy in my bed with leggings on and fuzzy socks and a hot tea or chocolate... sometimes listening to music? Usually not though because I'm usually so involved I don't notice.
I don't use public transportation so I have never tried reading on a bus before! But I'm fairly sure I'd find it distracting? Who knows!

message 35: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments Kristen- May I ask, if you're listening to music while reading what type of music would you likely be listening to?

message 36: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (simplysarah13) | 315 comments I like to read at night in my bed when everyone else is asleep. :)

message 37: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (jords) | 415 comments Laying on or in my bed in comfy pj's, fluffy socks with a cup of hot chocolate, curled up in my armchair with a blanket around me or outside in my back garden with a glass of lemonade :)

They all sound so wonderful! :D

message 40: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (jords) | 415 comments It's the best feeling in the world, especially after I've had a bad day, I just slip into the world of whatever book I'm reading and forget everything that happened that day. It's my release from the rest of the world :)

message 41: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (simplysarah13) | 315 comments I so agree. I can't read in the tub. I'm afraid I'll get my book wet. D:

message 42: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments Yes! No one wants their books to be wet! :D
