I read the first three chapters of this section today. Three different PoVs and some of my favorites (Rand and Elaida).

Thoughts on Toveine and Logain?

Three thousand years of 'tradition' and now the Aes Sedai are thinking outside the box with the Oath Rod. Can I get an amen? Sheesh!

Spoilers are allowed for all previous novels and through chapter thirty-one of The Path of Daggers. Please mark any spoilers or speculations that might refer to future events in the series.

Pay close attention to Cadsuane's comments about Callandor at the end of Chapter 27(view spoiler)[; I can see a direct connection between her remarks about it's only safe use and the painting Michael Whelan created for A Memory of Light's cover (hide spoiler)].

I was thinking Elayne and Aviendha when she mentioned the part about needing two women. Callandor really makes him cocky. First thinking he can heal the dead and now challenging the dark one by name and then hearing that voice (Lanfear?) saying he could challenge the creator.

I was wondering what ever happened to Logain right before he showed up and figured it was him before he was mentioned by name based on the description. Throwing in a pair of former false dragons under the real one should make things interesting.

At least the oath rod stuff and all the changes and new discoveries happening at the same time can be blamed on Rand's ta'veren effect instead of just being implausible coincidences.

It's disappointing that the quote at the beginning and the title itself were Seanchan sayings and they finally make a major comeback but there's still no sign of the nine moons Mat is supposed to marry or even any Mat that I can remember. This one definitely had the most disappointing ending so far. That thing with Dashiva and the other guy came out of nowhere and with no explanation unless he just got hit by the madness. Compared to all the forsaken fights, the horn, or Dumai's Wells there wasn't much to it. It still wasn't too bad after getting past the bowl and I was expecting a lot worse considering the reputation this part of the series has. Way easier to get through than Lord of Chaos was. Maybe because it was 400 pages shorter.

This one must have the least exciting / least memorable ending in the series so far.

I wonder about the Aiel and all the snow. With a people who've never faced such conditions before, they might not do too well. When it started snowing I was kind of hoping the Shaido would all die of frostbite and exposure, ha! Or Sevanna and her supporters at the very least.

I just finished my re-read of Path of Daggers and have to agree with Claudia and Alex. This ending disappoints on many levels.

The Dashiva bit still has me scratching my head. I went and read the Tor web site's re-read posts on this book and dug around in the Wheel of Time wiki (only read if you don't mind tons of spoilers), but my curiosity is still not satisfied.

I also agree on the weak ending. And wonder just what Cadsuane is up to. There are almost too many webs for me to keep straight, and the glossary is useless when I want to check on a name of someone I don't recall since ether had had not been mentioned for hundreds of pages. At this point, I probably wouldn't notice if some of the plot lines never resolve since I think I've forgotten half of them.

I continue to be mildly annoyed by how juvenile the relationships are between the men and women in love in this series. I expect it now, but it's still annoying.

I'm starting to get annoyed by how many characters have really similar names, when they're hundreds of pages area apart is hard to keep them straight.
