Leigh | 1219 comments A book I liked that wasn't long was Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo . It is a juvenile books but heart warming. The narration was excellent.

Judith Post | 130 comments I know that book. My boys loved it! They watched the movie, too.

Excellent book to try. I love the narrator. She does an excellent job with the many voices. It made the book come to life for me.

Judith Post | 130 comments Thanks, Leigh, I'm going to look for Smoke and Bones:) I started Patricia Briggs' [bookcover:Shifting Shadows: Stories from the World of Mercy Thompson|20821263. The first story breaks the "show, don't tell" rules, but I love it anyway.

Angie | 419 comments Judith wrote: "I know, a beginner's question, but how long does it take to listen to a book? Hours and hours?"

You can also change the length of time it takes to listen to a book from audible by changing the reading speed. I find that the regular speed is a bit too slow for me to stand, maybe because I talk so fast myself, so I bump it up to 1.5 to 2, which I'm not exactly sure how they differentiate from one speed to another, but I just go with what sounds right to me.

LastBreath (last_breath) | 241 comments Just dawned on me how fast this year is passing me by! Then I looked at my Kelley Armstrong Challenge-o-Meter and realized that I've only completed one out of five.

What the Harry is up with that?! I says to myself

So, I decided to hit a double Whammy with this one. Actually, I think it's a Trifecta. I'm about to start Omens by our talented Kelley Armstrong. In doing so I will have completed 2/5 Armstrong Challenge, completed YASO of the September Hello/Goodbye Challenge and I should, hopefully, be able to call this book 94/100 for my Reading Challenge!

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments So I have caught up on some reading over the past few days

Kidnapping Casey (Zorn Warriors, #2) by Laurann Dohner Beauty's Beast by Amanda Ashley Alpha Bait (The Alpha Shifter Collection) by Sam Crescent Better Homes and Hauntings by Molly Harper Omens (Cainsville, #1) by Kelley Armstrong York (Skin Walkers, #6) by Susan A. Bliler Every Night Forever (Hyena Heat, #1) by R.E. Butler Avenger's Heat (Moon Shifter, #4) by Katie Reus

♥ Ashleigh ♥ Contrary to popular belief I'm not actually mad! (cheshire_red) Just finished Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon that is a really intense book, though i did highly enjoy it.

I've tried to read it twice, but couldn't get into it. I did watch the first show and liked it, but not enough to give the book another shot. Will probably check out the rest of the show when it comes out on DVD.

message 2119: by Judith (new)

Judith Post | 130 comments That's the route I'm probably going to take, too. The series has had great reviews.

I've heard people who couldnt get into it tried the audio book version and loved it.
apparently there's some fantastic narrator who is a genius with all accents.

i thought the first part of the book was a bit bleh, but once she pops through the stones i really got into it.

but its not a book for everyone. if you dont like it, you dont like it.
same as i dont like that angel book, Daughter of Smoke & Bone and EVERYONE loves that book. lol

♥ Ashleigh ♥ Contrary to popular belief I'm not actually mad! (cheshire_red) picked up Dead on the Delta (Annabelle Lee, #1) by Stacey Jay so far pretty good

I did listen to it on audio and the narrator is awesome. I tried to read the book and couldn't do it. After listening to the first one I tried to read the second one, couldn't do it. I may listen to it though.

The first time I tried the book, didn't make it far. The second time I went the audio route as sometimes I can listen to books that I can't read, but it still didn't work for me.

message 2126: by Judith (new)

Judith Post | 130 comments Ashleigh, is the Annabelle Lee in Dead on the Delta from Edgar Allen Poe's poem? Can't hear the name without thinking about Poe.

Judith Post | 130 comments I'm halfway through Magic Slays (Kate Daniels, #5) by Ilona Andrews , and boy, never expected Russian myths. Guess I should have since Ilona was born in Russia, but Baba Yaga? Cool! The plot's getting pretty complicated, trying to keep everything straight. My biggest complaint: I bought the paperback, and the print's so small and not very dark, my eyes get tired.
