Sam (ham_shoes) | 3 comments Hi everybody. Do you have any local authors you'd like to recommend? I've been reading Truman: The Rise to Power by Richard Lawrence Miller and am really liking it. He has recently published his fourth and final book on pre-presidential Lincoln. It is obvious from his writing that he is an incredibly thorough researcher, and a good storyteller to boot.

I reviewed your read shelf here at Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ and ran the 'compare' feature from your profile and I found we have absolutely no books read in common. :) That's literally a first for me. So, I'm not sure any recommendation I might make would help.

And, if I remember correctly, I've only read two local authors: Jim Butcher of the Dresden Files series fame and K.A. Stewart, author of the Jesse James Dawson series (similar genre to Dresden).

Hi Sam,
Which would you prefer in your next book--a local author or another historical nonfiction? If you want another book about Lincoln try The Young Eagle: The Rise of Abraham Lincoln by Kenneth Winkle. If you want a local author of good historical nonfiction that reads like fiction, look for some Candice Millard.
