12. Orange - Improvement of the Intellect
You may choose to read from one of the top 10 lists listed on the below page (as per your roll) BUT... you may only pick 1 list where you’ve not read a round number (ending in 0) of books of the top 100. When you click on the list, on the right hand side, GR will have noted how many books you’ve read from the top 100 books; if it’s shown to be 10, 20, 30, etc –you cannot use that list
The challenge is to read the number of books required to reach this round number. That is, if “You’ve read 46 of the top 100 books, you will have to read 4 books from the top 100 of that list to complete this task You may choose whichever of the top 10 lists of your page that requires you to read the least number of books.
a. classics
b. nonfiction
c. writing

In reading 7 (below) I interpreted it to mean we had to choose one of the 3 groupings because of the "OR", but I see others are choosing from all 3 groups. If we can have authors from all 3 I will be a happy camper, but wanted a ruling on this before I got going. Thanks.

sorry, Lynn. Let's do an example then.

Thanks...that did clarify it. I just didn't want to get done and have to change it. And I had misunderstood to start, so it's good I asked!
for 6e, The Modern Family (based on the series: 6 adults, 4 teens, & 2 toddlers/babies) ...
Does this mean that, using as many or few books as possible, I have to accumulate a total of 6 adults, 4 teens, and 2 toddlers/babies on my covers?
Wow!
And must it be EXACTLY those numbers, or at least those numbers? (I'm thinking of a book with many babies on the cover, for example.)
And how old can toddlers be? up to 2? 3? 4? 5?

Tien, I need to clarify that I did this one correctly.
I rolled an 8 for color and a 3 for task.
That led me to:
"8. Dark Red Radically Random:
Read x books
(x = Roll a die to determine number of books to be read for this task)"
So I rolled again and got a 3.
Then I went to "c. Go to Playing Card Shuffler. Step 1: Number of Cards --> Draw X card(s) from 1 shuffled deck. Read book # of series as per cards drawn."
I used the 3 rolled for the number of books and plugged it into the Playing Card Shuffler and got a Q, 6, and a J. That means, I think, that I read one book marked series #6 and two books of any number in a series, correct?
Did I interpret this one correctly or should I have rolled again for part c?

Many of my favorites have rather unusual first names (e.g., Ursula, Gabriel), so I'm reduced to a rather short list of more common ones. But I still don't know how to hunt for possibilities based on the author's first name, especially authors I haven't read before.

I'd do as she does, Susan :)
You also have the option of searching author's name on GR. If you put in the name in the search spot above and when results pop up, you can refine by author... limitation here is that you won't know if the book is available at your library (ie. You'd need to search your library catalog too

Awesome! I was just going to skip those two names. But now I have 6 new authors to explore (because of course my two faves are in your list of 8).
Thanks, Coralie.

A plain background cover [11. Green Credible Covers: Read 1 book with a. Sober: plain background cover with only word of title (ie. no images)] is harder to find than I expected.
Would either of these work?

I'd think not, Bea. For example, Celia, A Slave was published in 1991, but is a non-fiction account of things that happened in 1855. In such cases, I think you have to go by when things in the book took place. But I see how it could be hard to determine for books that don't spell out a time frame.

Susan's right, Bea. Do you have a specific book in mind that doesn't tell you exactly when it's set?

Duh! Oh my gosh, where was my head? The key word was setting! Thanks, Susan.
