What we're listening to

Enjoy!"
This was so much fun to listen to! Thanks for giving us a vote, Josh. :-) I've already decided on my choice and look forward to casting my vote.
Caroline, little did you know how useful the 'what we're listening to' thread you started would become. :-)

I know there were some on iTunes, but I can't find them now. Still there?

They might still be on my website?
I'll have to look. It's been awhile since I've done one.

That's a great idea. Thank you for asking our opinion!
But I can't decide! Now I narrowed the choice to three. Will it be possible to give two votes?

Yes. First we'll narrow it down to three narrators and then there will be a final vote.

Three is all you need for Round 1 --
In round one, readers will vote for their top three picks. Voting will begin on March 4th and continue to March 9th. You may only vote once, but again, you will vote for your top three choices to narrate the Dangerous Ground series. Send your e-mail vote to josh_lanyon at joshlanyon.com.

That's confusing, isn't it? Either I wrote it in a hurry or the webguy spliced it together funny.

No, Josh. It makes sense. You and the webguy got it right. :)

Can we vote for the same person 3 times so they get 3 votes? :-D

If only I didn't work in an open plan office. I could brighten up everyone's Monday morning I suppose?

Thanks Tina - full of good ideas me! Now what else can I get up to on here whilst someone is safely soundly asleep in California.
I know now it's just a question of where I post that who is your favourite poet thread.

Well, you know I don't think it's possible to go TOO wrong. Even if you just vote for one narrator. :-)

Hey, this was cool. I didn't think I'd have time to vote, but I found some time to listen this morning. And, surprisingly, I found it very easy to decide--on three. Picking ONE, now that would (will) be a problem!
Did I read somewhere you were interested hearing our reasons for choosing? Perhaps after the voting? Or in the email? Or maybe that was just in my imagination.

Well, I certainly don't *mind* hearing anyone's reasons. I didn't expect people to go to any trouble though. Getting folks to listen and vote is probably enough of a task!

The one I chose gave that phrase what (I think is) the right inflection.
I give myself kudos for coming up with this idea because you're all so wonderfully diligent. My head literally starts to spin after awhile.
Plus, I can't help mentally rewriting the scene as I listen. I start out listening to the voice and then pretty soon I'm thinking, "No! Why did I write THAT? Why didn't I write..."

How did the voting results go? Was there a clear favorite?"
I still haven't looked!
Working like crazy to finish Man Oh Man this week. I figure I'll just count them all up tomorrow.
I'm actually nervous about the result! Isn't that goofy? :-D

You are hoping our choices reinforce yours. If we don't agree, then you have a dillema.
Not goofy.

Well, but the whole idea of throwing it out to readers was that I knew I could be happy with basically any of the narrators.
But my inner control freak just looked up and said, "You WHAT?"

I had to laugh at this. If I were in that position, my inner control freak would be doing the exact same thing. It constantly assures me that I know best. In all things.

You should tell your inner control freak to be grateful that at least you decided upon the narrators from whom the readers can choose. A author friend with a mainstream UK publisher has just discovered her book is now on Audible without anyone telling her, never mind consulting.

I just spent a happy half hour (and too much money) on Audible after Josh mentioned that his books are "on sale" there. Sadly, they're not reduced in the UK, but 500 other books are... But what I found odd was that some of the Bill Bryson books which he has narrated himself have been re-recorded by someone else and are available on Audible. I doubt if that's something he would have agreed to. Must be all about rights!
(I was about to snap up
A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail, which is hysterical as narrated by Bill B, when I noticed it was by a different narrator. I once had to park the car and listen for a bit by the side of the road, as I was laughing so hard at Bill's stories about bears that it would have been dangerous to continue driving.)

The same narrator did Ghost Wore Yellow Socks and he was great there, too. I liked that narration even better than Thrush.

Yes! I loved Max Miller's narration of that book. I thought he caught Colin's wry, sometimes sarcastic voice perfectly. And all the minor characters were so fun!

I'm waiting for the next book to come out, to start on that one :)
For my workout I listen to Somebody killed his editor, hopefully the sequel will be out as an audiobook soon!
Will there be an audiobook of the anthology Irregulars?

That would be very fun! I don't know. I'd love to hear Wicked Gentlemen in audio.
