Rot & Ruin
question
Over hyped.

So I ended up downloading this while looking for a few good zombie books with solid recommendations. Unfortunately the quality of the writing is dumbed down too much and is pretty inconsistent. The author would paint himself into a corner and (plot wise) and have to come up with trite justifications to move the story along. I'll try not to bring up the points others have but some of the things that bothered me most:
1. Zombie Woodstock
The notion that you should be kind and considerate to zombies b/c they used to be someone's loved one BEFORE THEY DIED AND WERE RE-ANIMATED is beyond silly. I may be outraged that a loved one's corpse was reanimated but I would not go that far. Fact is these people that believed this would not last long in a world with billions of zombies.
2. Inconsistencies
More then I can count. Townspeople don't want to face "reality" unless they have to b/c of a plot point or to move the story along. These people with their faces in the sand manage to survive quite well in what would be an extremely difficult environment. They are pretty much self sufficient and where they aren't then thank God that "traders" can make it around the countryside with regularity despite what would be the extremely high cost of such goods. But hey don't worry most of the jobs in this socialist dream are pretty unproductive to the survival of the town anyways! With almost endless supplies of food and materials without the use of electricity or modern technologies it COMPLETELY explains how they can provide enough food for the thousands in the town. Oh yeah they ration. /sigh. I can tell you people would be working long hard hours to just scrape by.
3. Kindness of Strangers
Let me ask you something, why would these salt of the earth bounty hunters take significant risks in kidnapping the seemingly endless supply of children (that no one would miss), transporting them through the Zombie Lands Safe Zone (has to be) to then sell them into some type of zombie death match game that people can bet rations on? This is so lucrative and sustainable that they can make (and rebuild) a theme park based on this traffic. If I were evil then I would ponder how difficult it would be to take over these pansy-ass towns who could then be forced to keep you well supplied. For some reason these really horrible people seem to NEED to maintain some type of respectable image and domicile in these towns.
4. Endless
I could go on but really whats the point? Not going to get any more of these.

Wow. I respect your opinion but I guess I just did not look that deep into it. I read all the books for fun. Yes, some of it was very far fetched but who cares. Thats the beauty of the imagination. Later in the books, they get a little grusome and crazy but they kept me wanting more....so I kept reading and over all enjoyed them.
kinda, the books were sort of boring. i love zombies, and i like fight scenes when they die. this book they were on the zombies side, so it was kinda annoying.
I read Rot knowing it was for the YA market and didn't pick it apart for that reason. I read zompoc not for a lesson in writing skills but for the pure entertainment value. I thought Rot was o.k. but couldn't read the follow up (by then it was just too boring). I had found Mark Tufo by that time and everything else paled in comparison. On a side note, I was offended when I learned that Jonathan compares Rot to George Romero's zombie films. Not even close! Johathan comes across as extremely arrogant; going as far as to put down other readers right to review his work, saying that reviewers/critics are slandering his name with their opinions. Rot n Ruin is just about a boy growing up and learning all of life’s lessons in a za. It could be an afterschool special but not a nail biting, edge of your seat horror film. But it does look like there is a marker for material such as this, he is doing very well for the most part.
