Jay Howard (jay_howard) GROUP 9 - moderator Marie-Anne Mancio

START DATE: 23 March 2013

END DATE: 15 June 2013

Please remember the commitment you are making to your fellow group members. If you don’t think you can manage to do 4 book reviews between these dates please let me know now. I will find someone else for this group and you will be able to choose a later group that will be more suitable for you. If you pull out after the start date for any reason it is the other members who will be faced with the problem of finding a replacement, or missing out on reviews, through no fault of their own. Please don’t ask the moderators to chase after replacements as we just don’t have the time.

It is the responsibility of the author to get their book to their reviewer in a format the reviewer can manage. When the file is received, please post a GR link to the book in this thread so that the author has confirmation that reviewing of the correct book has started.

There are no set dates for the start of each round. You can each work at your own pace, within the limits of the round deadlines. All reviews must be posted by 15 June 2013.

When you have posted your review on GR please post a link to your review in this thread.

All reviews of 3, 4 or 5 stars must be posted to GR, Amazon .com and Amazon.co.uk.

If the rating is 1 or 2 stars, the review must be posted to GR but the author should be asked if they want the review to go to Amazon or not.

Postings to any other sites are by agreement by both author and reviewer.

DON’T FORGET TO POST THE LINK TO THE BOOK(S) YOU WILL BE PUTTING FORWARD FOR REVIEWING AS I REQUESTED IN MY PM TO YOU. FAILURE TO DO SO BY THE GROUP START DATE MAY RESULT IN YOU LOSING YOUR PLACE TO ANOTHER MEMBER.

In the next post are the listings for the 4 review rounds, the who reviews who stuff. You don’t have to put forward the same book for every round, but you can only ask for one review per round.

Happy reviewing, everyone :)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) If I’ve missed something that results in you being asked to review someone who has already reviewed you, please let me know asap. If you’ve registered and are not listed here, don’t worry, your turn will come soon in another group.

Edit 11 March - E.D. has to withdraw, replacement being sought for rounds 2-4

Edit 13 March - Marina Latcko is taking E.D.'s place for rounds 2, 3 and 4

Jay Howard (jay_howard) It's very rare for me to get it absolutely right from first posting. Sing out if you spot something I've done wrong this time ;)

I am your contact until everyone has checked in here with their GR book link. After that your contact is your moderator, Marie-Anne.

message 4: by Eisah (new)

Eisah Eisah | 31 comments I got a post inbetween yours!

I hope I did it right, it looked like what the other groups did.

Now that's really keen!
I'll copy it here and delete the other if you don't mind, just to keep the setup messages together.
This was your post:

My book here Flute of the Wind Queen (all four rounds):

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16...

I have mobi and epub files.

I can take mobi (preferred) epub or pdf.

²Ñ²¹°ùí±ô¾±²¹ Bonelli | 12 comments Hi everyone.

My book for the first round is Grace. I can send it over in doc, pdf or mobi.

Here's the link:
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/15...

I read on my computer, so anything I can open is fine. The ones I usually use are doc, pdf and mobi.

Hugs,

Sheela Word Hi. My first-round book is "naate (connections)": http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17.... I can send it in mobi, pdf, or epub.

I'd prefer to receive a mobi or pdf file.

Thanks everybody.

L.A. Parker (lafp) | 9 comments Hi, all! My book is Stella's Sheets.

I am new to all these formats having only published in KDP. I do not have the file. So I can gift a Kindle copy, send doc, docx or pdf.
Stella's Sheets

I prefer doc or docx

Tom Xavier (tomxavier) | 6 comments Hey all,

My first-round book is DARK CURSES AND FAERIE DREAMS. Here's the GR link:

Dark Curses and Faerie Dreams

I have it available in PDF and most other formats through smashwords.com. Smashwords allows me to gift a copy, I believe. Otherwise I can email the file.

The Master and the Maid

I'd prefer to either gift a Kindle copy or give you a coupon for Smashwords for all the other fomats.

I read on my Kindle, so I prefer that.

Go to your dashboard on SW, generate a coupon code for 100% discount, and then you just need to PM the code to your reviewer. They pick up whatever format they want.

If you have a doc file that's all you need for uploading to Smashwords and they'll convert to all other formats for you :)

message 13: by L.A. (new)

L.A. Parker (lafp) | 9 comments I plan on doing that but I am in kdp select and have to be exclusive to Amazon until this term expires. I am working on getting my book ready for Smashwords.

Thanks, Jay.

Do you want this code available to everyone, Tom? You could delete it from here and just PM it to your reviewer if you prefer.

R1 end 13-Apr-12
R2 end 04-May-12
R3 end 25-May-12
R4 end 15-Jun-12

Shows how out of it I am that I had to stop and actually look at a calendar. :)
Could've been worse, it could've said Feb 30 like the cookie I ate in January.
Sorry, ignore me, I'm being silly... This has nothing to do with the rest of the discussion.

message 23: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Haha! I KNEW I'd make at least one mistake, no matter how many times I check it. I once had a job interview that involved doing a 10 minute presentation on the Y2K problems (this was back in 1994). The very first slide was wrong - 200 not 2000 for the year. I'd checked and practised dozens of times for that interview and missed that error every single time. So I started the presentation with 'this is the kind of error we'll be facing if we don't act now - computers and microprocessors in other equipment just won't recognise dates correctly unless we correct the programs using 2 digit years'. I got the job.

I suppose this is the same as the word blindness that afflicts us when we are trying to proof read.

message 24: by Mayowa (new)

Mayowa Ajisafe (mayowaajisafe) | 6 comments Oh My! I never even see or thought about the dates and that seems to be a cool thing similar to turning back the hand of time.

I think Jay deserve a kudos for successfully turning back the hands of time here.

Kudos! Lol!

Laura Libricz (lauralibricz) | 78 comments Hi,

I just wanted to let you all know that over the Easter vacation, two weeks, I won't be online much because I'll be going to see my dad. I'll sort our my first two rounds because I'll have time to read if my daughter isn't too chatty. I'm going to take her some books ;-)

²Ñ²¹°ùí±ô¾±²¹ Bonelli | 12 comments Jay wrote: "Haha! I KNEW I'd make at least one mistake, no matter how many times I check it. I once had a job interview that involved doing a 10 minute presentation on the Y2K problems (this was back in 1994)...."

Yeah, that type of blindness, haha.
Or maybe computers are mean and the like to change things around when we're not looking. :) Every time I read a manuscript, I see a mistake I hadn't seen before... Maybe they multiply. ;)

message 27: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) It's our own fault for creating male mistakes AND female mistakes - how else would they multiply when we're not looking?

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Ever read Consider Her Ways?

²Ñ²¹°ùí±ô¾±²¹ Bonelli | 12 comments Jay wrote: "Ever read Consider Her Ways?"

haha
I had to look it up. I'd never heard of it. I think I'd like it, reminds of an episode of Outer Limits I saw some years ago. :)

message 31: by K.A. (new)

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1702 comments I believe that episode of The Outer Limits was based on the story! How did Group 9 get so off topic? I don't even belong here!

message 32: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen Garlock (kathykg) Hi all,

My book for the first round is Gone for a Soldier.

Alberto was kind enough to request his review copy and it's on the way.

It's available as an epub or pdf.

Kathy

The off-topic was my fault... Apologies and consider it a preview of what happens with my dialogs. :)

You don't belong here? *sigh* I feel like that constantly. hehe.
Again, sorry for derailing the conversation.
Oh, and Kathy, is it okay if I ask you for your book in advance - before round 3?

E.D. Brady (edbrady) I regret to inform you all that due to a new job position, I will be unable to continue with this round of reviews. I am already half way through round one and will see it out, but will be unable to complete round 2, 3 and 4 on time. My deepest regrets and apologies. I have already contacted Jay and she is graciously working to rearrange to have my postition filled. I looked forward to working with all of you sometime again in the future. Thank you all so much for your patience and kindness.

message 40: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) I'm sure we all wish you luck with the job, E.D. As you've let us all know so early - the group hasn't even officially started yet! - and due to the circumstances, I'm happy to find a replacement for rounds 2-4.

I'll edit message 2 to show the change now, and again when I have a replacement.

Men have always been scared of women, deep inside of them in the part they daren't look at too closely. It's like the bogey man: not really there if you don't look straight at it. That's why men compensate for their own fear by being derogatory about women's abilities. Feeling even more scared now? Men should be! ;)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Thanks, Matthew, and all other members - that's all of you checked in now.

Marina will joining you for rounds 2 - 4. She'll be posting her book link later today.

I've let Marie-Anne know you're all present and correct at inspection so this Sergeant Major will now hand you over to your Captain for the life of this group. If you have any queries try posting here in the first instance as you may be able to sort things out between you. If you feel the need for private communication please PM Marie-Anne. I'll be busy sorting out the next group now.

Happy reviewing, everyone :)
