Now I'm reading The Sky Always Hears me and the Hills Don't Mind by Kristin Cronn-Mills.

I just finished book 1 of Storm Constantine's Grigori trilogy Stalking Tender Prey and wrote a short review http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/... It is an amazing work and my respect for Storm continues to grow. It has some Gay influence, but only as a part of a much greater story.
I'm now doing a quick re-reading of The City and the Stars by Arthur C. Clarke

This is my favorite of the series so far.

This is the first Holleran I've read and I agree, the writing is excellent. His descriptions are so vivid and, as you said, very brutal.
I happened to be listening to Jeff Buckley's "I Know It's Over" while reading the ending, which turned out to be both apropos and a lethal combination -- I was nearly reduced to tears on the subway.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if I should say anything before, but I thought you might have put Cut Hand down before because it's kind of terrible...

Sometimes I don't mind unusual words in a story and having to look them up. Other times, it just seems the author is trying too hard.

It was decades ago for me too. I remember my brother giving me the book to read shortly after he came out and me hoping that his life will be a lot happier. There were a lot of sad and tragic stories in those days.

I suppose there are some young adults who might like it and for whom it may be appropriate...

This is on my to-buy list, but some of the reviews have prevented me from buying. I'm looking forward to your thoughts.

Yes! Him and the kid he was helping come out.

Very interesting titles, Columbus. I haven't read anything about gay life in Puerto Rico. The only book I read by Benjamin Alire Sáenz was Last Night I Sang to the Monster. Ghana Must Go looks really interesting too.

Nancy, I highly recommend both short story collections. Mundo Cruel was a recommendation from a friend via Lambda Literary & Kentucky Club was short-listed for Pen/ Faulkner Award (eventual winner).
New to this group and enjoying it already!

Welcome to the group! Glad you're having fun. :)

So now I'm starting Krakow Melt.

I also just finished The first three volumes of the Graphic Novel versions of Maximum Ride

I wonder if the setting would feel authentic to me. I've been to Krakow many times.

I agree it's really well written, but I have to admit it wasn't really my thing. Definitely worth reading though!
Now I'm reading Yield.

Now I can't decide what to read next. I wish there were a magic way to figure out which of the numerous unread books lying around my apartment will turn out to be awesome...
