Mona Garg (k1721m) | 41 comments Fragile is the first in the series, The Hollows, named for the town in which the story is set. It is a psychological suspense tale with complex family dynamics and small town secrets. An interesting tidbit I learned on the author's blog is that Fragile has been optioned by TNT to be a part of its Mystery Movie Night series.

Lisa Unger is a New York Times and international best selling author of 11 novels. Her books have sold more than 1.5M copies and have been translated into 26 languages.

I can't wait to start reading and discussing this book! Hopefully, in the future, we can discuss Darkness, My Old Friend(The Hollows #2).

Jenni, I thought the book was FAITHFUL PLACE by Tana French. Where did FRAGILE, THE HOLLOW come out of?

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 41 comments I just picked this up from the library and have started reading. I am enjoying it so far. The prologue grabbed me and the depiction of everyday life in the protagonist's family is true-to-life. I already have a sense of the relationships and/or tensions amongst the characters.

The writing style and language is readable and the chapters are short.

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 41 comments I really like that each chapter is written from a different POV. It really helps with character development. Some of my favorite authors(Jodi Picoult,Emily Giffin) write in this style.

Gone Girl, a book I read recently and really enjoyed, was written like this.

VickiLee | 251 comments To begin, I must state that this is the very first book I have ever read as an ebook. It took a some effort to get comfortable with it, but I am determined that, even though I love my books, an ereader is great for travelling. So, one book down.
Fragilewas a novel of tangled lies, good people caught in guilt, and bad people who remained bad. For a quiet little town, it sure had its fair share a nasty folk and repressed hostilities. I enjoyed the novel and because the ending was left with possibilities for the future, I just may dig up the second book in the series. It is worth the read.

I prefer paper myself and have yet to get on the digital bandwagon. I do admit that e-readers are great for travel b/c I'm an eclectic reader and choose genres based on mood. It's so hard to choose which books to take.

As for the book, I'm enjoying it enough that I would want read the next one. I suppose growing up in a small town such as The Hollows can be suffocating for some and secure for others. This applies to characters in the novel and to real life as well.

Joyce | 10 comments I really enjoyed the first two books in this series and hope their are more to come.

And VickLee, once you've gotten used to your ereader, you'll never want to go back to paper books.

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 41 comments I really need to get moving on this one. I'm only half-way thru.

Ambs ❤❤ (hannonan) | 13 comments I really enjoyed this book. Especially the way all the lives were intertwined together, how one small decision could've changed the course of history, but those actions were not taken as if the entire story and people involved were destine to live that course of events.

The story itself was written well, and continued momentum. There were no overly sappy love stories, or completely implausible events, which made the story more relate-able (although I've never experienced murder or missing people personally).

Robin Mahle (robinmahle) | 24 comments I'm just getting into now and enjoying the writing style. But, I do need to catch up a bit, like Mona :)

Michael (book_nerd1991) I read this a couple of years ago, it is a really good novel. Full of suspense and intrigue, Unger is one of my favorite authors.

Colleen (bcmom9906) I enjoyed the read. I haven't read many books written in so many points of view. But felt weird that Charlie just happens to have the same story from his past but you never really find anything about it. I did like that all of the loose ends were tired up with the rest of the Characters and their histories.

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 41 comments I'm just about done. Every time I think I've solved the mystery, something happens to make me doubt myself. I love books like that.

Colleen, about Charlie, I also wish there was more light shed on Lila's story. Maybe in book 2?

I liked the book from the prologue itself. I'll most likely finish it today. I'm eager to see how it ends.

This will be the first book by Unger I've read but it definitely won't be the last.

Have you read the sequel,

Darkness, My Old Friend?

Mona Garg (k1721m) | 41 comments I'm finished! I was actually surprised that the loose ends were tied up. I expected that, this being the first in a series, there would be some sort of cliffhanger(not that I'm disappointed).

I have looked up Darkness, My Old Friend. It seems to be a continuation in the sense that some of the characters from Fragile are revisited. Some new characters are introduced as well.

I think that if I was on pins and needles about the storyline, I would snap up the sequel. But, since the ending was conclusive, I will probably switch genre and/or author for my next read and come back to it later.

Andrea Corley | 1298 comments I must be the minority in this! I just couldn't get into this book! I did listen to it on audio and by the sounds of it, that is what made the difference! I don't think this is a great audiobook choice! The narrator was pretty good, but it was really hard to follow! I felt like it had too many characters and flashed back and forth so much and that each story (the present day and the history) were so much alike that it was hard to keep track of which story they were talking about at the time!

I'm thinking that maybe I should actually READ it and I may have a differing opinion!

Yes I have read that one too. It was a little bit less intriguing but I love the memorable characters.

I've never tried audio b/c I prefer to read rather than listen to my books. I am pretty sure that I would get lost, especially in a story like this. I enjoy varying perspectives, multiple characters, and flashbacks in traditional paper books.

Andrea Corley | 1298 comments I enjoy audio books, and some books are GREAT on audio! I love Chelsea Cain books on audio, but this was not a good one, for me, anyway!

Sometimes when I read and really enjoy the first in a series, I'm torn about reading the sequel. On one hand, I want to find out what happens next and yet, I'm afraid it will be a let-down.

I read

Creep some time back(I think it was a group read here as well) and LOVED it. I have the sequel, Freak but I haven't started it even though Creep had an intriguing end.

Andrea Corley | 1298 comments I need and desperately want to read Creep! I've heard great things about it!

You definitely should Andrea. It was one of the best suspense/thrillers I ever read.

I'll have to try one sometime. Hubby listens to them all the time but mostly non-fiction self-enrichment types. I imagine that's different b/c there are no characters and/or plot to keep up with.

Andrea Corley | 1298 comments The funny thing is though it seems to always be mystery books I listen to! I want to try one of my girly sappy books and see how I like it!

I suppose a lot depends on the narrator and complexity of the storyline.

Michael (book_nerd1991) I need to read Creep. The synoposis is very intriguing and suspensful! love that it has a sequel.

I would highly recommend it. It was not only one of the best suspense/thrillers I ever read but one of the best books. I still can't forget it. It would be interesting to see a film adaptation.

Andrea Corley | 1298 comments I have just moved it up on my list!

I don't think you'll be disappointed. I had checked it out from the library b/c the premise sounded interesting. As I recall, I didn't read about it on the blogosphere(or via any other print media) nor was it recommended to me by anyone. It was just a random choice and I got lucky.

Chava | 2788 comments This was the first e-book I read. Initially I couldn't wait to keep reading, but once it was clear what had happened, the oomph was out of the book for me. It just started to drag on. Overall it's a nice and easy read, 3 out of 5 stars for me.

I think it means bumping
Creep up on the TBR list.

Chava | 2788 comments She put it in a few discussions. I thought it to be a bump as in an end to the discussion.

AngryGreyCat (angrygreycatreads) Usually people use bump on message boards when a thread has been dead for awhile and they want to get it back up to the top (as in unread list) to get discussion going again.

This was much, much, much better than Gone Girl.

Kirsten (kmcripn) I read Ink and Bone back in 2017 and was surprised to find it was part of series. I finally got a copy of this book from the library and it was a quick read!

All the different characters with all their different back stories. The interweaving of the narratives. The suspense. I really, really liked it.

I'm definitely going to read the others and see if we get to see more of these characters. I know Jones Cooper was in Ink and Bone.
