The books that made me realize what dystopian was and that I loved it was the Endless summer series by Theresa shaver. We were on a trip and I didn't have internet and couldn't get to the library book I was reading. So I decided to read one of the many books I have on my kindle(have a bad habit of downloading free books and then never reading them lol) I started reading snap and ash by Theresa Shaver and was hooked. I am now addicted to dystopian novels. I'm always looking for suggestions on new ones to read!! Since I'm newish to the genre I don't know what to look for.

Hello everybody! I'm Nicole :)

Looking forward to mingling with everyone on the forums. Cheers!

New guy here, although I have no idea what took me so long to join the group. It's like an All You Can Eat buffet to a dystopiofile. Yes, this is a word. I just made it up :)
Just finished Primal Dawn, and started up on Days of Future Past. Neither are dystopian novels, and both were received for free. I'm running a little experiment to see how good are unknown and up-and-coming authors. Usually, there's just a general genre choice there. Not much dystopia I'd be willing to give 5+ hours of listening to.
Anyway, introduction threads never cease to amaze me. Almost 4 years old now, but still going strong. I guess people on GR don't let good things die :)
There's no better group to ask this in, and this is an introduction thread, so I guess I'm not breaking any rules here.
Here it goes: Whoever actually writes reviews, please ping me or add me as a friend. I actually like reading other people's thoughts about books, rather than seeing Such And Such rated this book 3* in my feed. This is a very good motivator for me to pick the book up.
Especially if we match regarding genres and ratings. I'll tend to trust your vote more the higher our reading compatibility is.
If you like, you can read my reviews too, I won't complain :) Although they tend to be longer, so be warned! Let me know if you strongly dislike any of my reviews, too. I'll defend my standpoint and we can have a good old-fashioned fight on the internet!
Hope you cracked a smile at least :)
Cheers!
Welcome to Omar and Sinisa.
Sinisa I don't write reviews but I'm following a lot of people as I love to read other people's reviews and I've found out I even enjoy reviews more after I've read the book. :)
Btw the books you linked look quite interesting. Thanks for the share. Feel free to keep us updated with you current reads (and reviews) in this topic.
Cheers back at you :)

Both books were random picks in my challenge to see if not-so-well-known authors and narrators are really worth the attention, and both were pleasant surprises.
I guess that subject warrants a topic of its own, and I'll take care of that tomorrow as I'd also like other opinions on it.
Second book is just finished and I'll jump to linked topic for some quick sharing. Tomorrow. another book :-)

My name's Bau, and I'm from Moorcroft, WY. I love dystopians, with my first one being Fahrenheit 451. I'm looking for any sort of dystopian read, because it makes me think about our world and how much influence, for better or worse, the write draws upon.
My last read was The Bottle Stopper by Angeline Trevena.

Welcome David. Would you like to mention one or two audiobooks that made an impression on you? I'm quite curious and I am always on the lookout for a good audiobook.

Welcome Maddie :)

I don't join many groups or discussions, but I hope this one will help fuel my obsession with dystopian societies. I know there have got to be a ton of other great books out there that I haven't even heard of yet. Looking forward to reading with you guys :)
Welcome Carmel, we are happy to have you in our group. Please feel free to join or start discussions about your favorite books.

I'm Kaz Calva, and I'm an author. However, my other books were written in different genres (mainly non-fiction) under other names. So now, I'm delving into the fiction world and will be releasing my first series very soon. It's a dystopian series on the affects of social media on society - mob mentality, murders streamed on Facebook live - and censorship.
I love writing dystopian because I find it utterly cathartic.

my goal this year was to read 6 books and I'm already ahead of that (miracles do happen!). I'm always looking for suggestions on what to read next and this looked like a good place to start. Thanks for having me.

Hello Fernando. If you have question how to use Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ you can ask in this group. Or maybe we can help? However I'm not sure I understand your question. Where on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ you want to comment?

My name is Jeremy John, and I've recently completed a dystopia novel.
My favorite works of dystopian fiction are:
Fahrenheit 451
1984
The Windup Girl
The Chrysalids

I read scifi (and fantasy) voraciously and I love to talk about it. I'm working my way through many of the classics in the genre--making up for a misspent youth reading Dostoevsky and theology.
I have spent much of my time in activism as well, and am always down for a good critique of capitalism.
Looing forward to getting to know you all. Feel free to befriend me.
Sam wrote: "What are your favorite new dystopian books/series?"
Welcome Sam. For me Wool Omnibus is at the top from the newer Dystopian works of fiction.

My name is Monica from Costa Rica.
I must say that I am new on dystopian fiction so far I read 1984 and Brave new world.
I would like to know names of stories and novels.
Thank you

I like gentler Dystopian with a romantic feel to them but ones that step out of the box and have a hopeful, happy message. Nothing too grim! Hated how they ended THG
Welcome S.K.
I've recently started watching the Handmaid's tale. I decided not to re-read the novel. I'm very happy how it is going so far. Some scenes are so well done and I feel transported back to the book. I've seen a lot of people reading the novel in public transport lately. I agree with you about it's message. I think a lot of people will discard it's warnings just because it seems too far off to them. A good point is made to social inactivity. Something we can all contribute more to.
I also really enjoyed THG, the books and the movie, thought the third book felt a bit rushed. I did read it a long time ag though. I remember the movie ending but that didn't feel right. The book did not end like did it?

I actually haven't watched the third movie, lol. I re-watch re-read the first two all the time but there wasn't a single thing about the third that I liked.
No I've decided not to re-read The Handmaid's Tale either, and though I've only had the chance to watch the pilot so far I love the way they've done it.
I've never forgotten the thing about her identitycard with her credit cards and I.D all stored in the one place, and about how they were switched off. That's haunted me since I first read the book about 10 years ago, and ever since we started getting the apple watches and banking apps and now the pay for things with your phone, I've been sweating bullets, lol.

The Handmaid's Tale

Thanks,
Dennis

My name is Shreya and although I don't get the time to fun read, I love dystopian novels. I just finished the Slated trilogy and I loved it. Some of my favorite dystopian novels are Slated, 1984, Animal Farm, and Legend. I am excited to be apart of this group and can't wait to discover more interesting, dystopian novels!
Thank you

my name is hayleigh, and i would absolutely classify myself as an avid reader. that being said, i have yet to truly immerse myself into the dystopian genre. most recently, under this category, i've read more than this by patrick ness, and, not so recently, legend by marie lu. i am currently reading the raven boys by maggie stiefvater, the demon king by cinda williams chima, and the alchemist by paulo coelho. it'd be safe to say that i'm ecstatic to familiarize myself with new book recommendations, especially those of the dystopian/fantasy kind, as well as some book enthusiasts like myself.
thank you,
hayleigh

I'm Dave, I love dystopian stories and have recently released my first short novella in this genre. Hugh Howey's Silo Saga (Wool) is the top of the pile for me and I'm always looking for stuff along those lines. I'll be searching this group for good advice for new reads!

My name is L.C. Perry and I am a YA author. The genres I write in vary but the recent book I'm publishing is the start of a dystopian series.
I look forward to what this group has to offer and feel free to shoot me a friend request or PM me if you ever want to chat!
