Being a reader of sci-fi and fantasy, I have read a good deal of dystopian books, of course the usual, Fahrenheit 451, 1984, Brazil, Brave New World and Brave New World Revisited, Fatherland, Chung Kuo, The Postman, The Hunger Games etc.
Recently, there has been so many imitations of the Hunger Games in young adult literature, has anyone come across any new adult Dystopian novels.
Thanks.

What are some of your favorite dystopian novels?

WOW, down the road? That's past Caterham. I'm just at the top of Park Hill park, it's between East Croydon and South Croydon station.
Yes . Anyone up for a swim?

Cronx Hahahaha never heard of that, honestly, but it's brilliant. Is there similar for the lovely Brixton?
Fun stuff happen here. Take an advice from me, if you go at West Cronx speak only English, you never know how will someone interpret it.

Yeah but in my area is completely different. It's mainly families. Nothing to do with WC.
And I'm used to more scary things. Not that this is something to boast about.
I'm sure your area is better though. Is there a commercial part - shops and restaurants?

(view spoiler) - I just don't wanna see that name :/

Oh sorry. Yeah, that's the mobile app. It's Bulgaria, the spoiler and my "home, sweet home".

It's cheap by your standards. They have destroyed the national parks and natural habitats of migrating animals to build those skiing resorts and beaches. Not that they are not nice. For a holiday is is a great destination or if you have income in another country!

I know. From one side I approve it, and don't mind it. From the other I know all the money go into people's pockets. Otherwise it is very nice in the mountains and people like sunny beach as well.
Are you from UK originally?

That is great. Why don't you tell us what are you favorite dystopian books, I think they can be quite different. That way we can give you a suggestion?
And welcome. We are happy to have you :]

Divergent wasn't built well, I think. Both parts that I have read [book 1 and 2] have too many inconsistencies!
A book that I would recommend is The Gate to Women's Country. It's a bit of a slow reading, but I really loved it and it is on my to-re-read list. It is considered a feminist book though. Not sure if you would read it.
I think post-apocalyptic is not considered Dystopian, but since there can be degradation of society and has similar elements I think of it as one. Also it seems that people that like one of those two genres like the other as well and I wouldn't want to limit the people here. Other genres are allowed to be discussed and read.
Talking about it I think death of grass was amazing. I think I have recommended those two books to ever single person that had posted in this group! I think I might be obsessed with certain books. Oh wait - this is Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ, I'm probably not alone! :DThe Death of Grass

I hope you enjoy them. Drop a word if you start reading them :] If you are near me I can always lend a book. :)

Hi Phillip, welcome. This is a great group and my TBR list is growing by leaps and bounds. I agree dystopian and post-apocalyptic are a favorite genre of mine also and you will find tons of suggestions. It looks like you have already indulged in more than a few of my favorites but some you haven’t listed that I count among favorites are Genesis by Bernard Beckett, A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller, Jr, Swan Song by Robert R. McCammon McCammon is more noted for horror than Sci-Fi but I put Swan Song in the post-apocalyptic genre, The Color of Distance by Amy Thomson. I hope you enjoy!

I think Brave would enjoy Ellie's suggestion to me of The Gate to Women's Country [image error]http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/10... I really enjoyed the book, but be aware that the author skips around a bunch in her timeline.
I was impressed to see Phillip list The Stand, what a wonderful book!! I don't think it's recognized often enough, and if you haven't already read William Forschten's One Second After [image error]http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/49... I'm sure you would enjoy it.
I want to day welcome to Brave and Phillip, so welcome, we are really happy to have you.
I just want to share with all of you an amazing story I listened to. It was written in 1909 and it just blew my mind away. Although it is considered sci-fi I think it is mostly dystopian and I do not understand why is it not more popular.
Although it is an oldish book, the language is not archaic, and omg I cannot describe it. You just have to listen to it. Or read it.
The audio version is available from Libivox and I read the Elizabeth Klett version.
Oh the name of the book, almost forgot The Machine Stops

“And of course she had studied the civilization that had immediately preceded her own - the civilization that had mistaken the functions of the system, and had used it for bringing people to things, instead of for bringing things to people. Those funny old days, when men went for change of air instead of changing the air in their rooms!

Finding time to read it will be a challenge right now because I just launched a Kickstarter to fund my own dystopian novel: Isolation. Check out my Kickstarter. And if you'd like to read about this bacterial world, sponsor me so you'll be first in line to get a copy!

Will do. Thanks, Ellie.

I am old, but I enjoy reading YA books. When I read 'The Hunger Games' I found a new genre of books that I greatly enjoy.
I don't read along with the group, but I do read the suggestions from other members and have several books on my 'to read' shelf. I am reading 'The Handmaid's Tale at present.
I am glad I found this group
Roxie

Welcome, Roxie. I enjoyed the The Hunger Games and the Handmaid’s Tale is one of my favorites. You may like The Host by Stephenie Meyer. It is a fun and easy read, dystopian in nature with some romance, action and mystery.

Welcome Roxie,
glad you finally said 'Hi' and I am really happy you have found this group useful. Reading such comments makes me really happy. It is good to see that what you are doing is not completely in vain.
Roxie I so much loved the movie The Host that I am considering the book as well. While I watched twilight the books are not something I want to read, but the alien/dystopian theme in The Host was fascinated.
I am wondering if there is more on the aliens in the novel. We did not get much in the movie.

It has young adults IN it, does that count as YA, lol!

I am a greedy reader of Orwell and Huxley, whom to me form two third of the holy dystopian trinity (the third one being PK Dick).
As to why I like this genre so much, I suspect it appeals to what my wife calls my "genetic" pessimism..

It is so good. You will not regret it. Although, the fourth season isn't as good. The show was cancelled after 3 seasons ten years ago and it just got popular from netflix. They came back but now that everyone is ten years older and they are out of their 'groove' the show isn't as funny. But you will be laughing your butt off for the first three
