Bec (foreverfnm) Well, I decided to do a corner for myself- I have so many challenges and stuff to work on, it will be nice to keep track of things here.

I'm planning on spending the next two to three days reading heavily, because I'm in a read-a-thon... but I have even more time on my hands because I dislocated my kneecap in a moshpit, so I'm stranded at home for three days. Good excuse to get stuck into a book or two!

I'm currently reading House to House: An Epic Memoir of War which is a non-fiction about the taking of Fallujah in 2004 - very interesting, but it's not a quick read! Going to try to knock some of that off tonight.

I just finished Boulevard which was about a sex addict who also happened to be a homicide cop, it was very interesting but so dark! I think I should read something nice and fluffy after this!

So please, come in, make yourself welcome....

Julia (juliace) Morning Bec - I was making the rounds letting everyone know I'm having a Sunday Brunch in my corner this morning. If you get a chance, please stop in!

A read-a-thon. I've never heard of one. How does that work? Is it for charity?

message 3: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) I checked out Boulevard and added to my TR shelf.

Bec (foreverfnm) Hey Julia, I've already popped in and eaten all your food (us student types and free food, you know?)

I'm a member of a reading group at my library, and we are raising money for one of the other library branches, the council wanted to close it because it needs repairs on the roof and it's expensive blah blah... we get people to sponsor us... My goal this year is 1000 pages. If I reach my goal (I will) I will have made over $300 dollars, and our group are close to $1500... I've never fundraised for something I am passionate about before, so I'm pretty proud of myself!

message 5: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) Wow!! Good for you! That's a great way to raise money for a cause. I'll have to look online and see how to set something like that up. I have alot of avid reader family & friends (whom I have been trying to get on this site!!!) and I think they would be interested in participating in something like that.

Bec (foreverfnm) It certainly is a way that is enjoyable to raise money! I have chronic knee issues and cannot walk for more than a km, so many charity events are centred around a walk, run or bike ride in Australia... It gets very frustraiting when you want to support something - I would donate money but I don't have enough $ to support myself some weeks!

Hi Bec. Just stopped by to say hi. Love your corner.

Bec (foreverfnm) Hiya Kyle, hope you have/have had a fantastic day! What time zones are people in? I'm Australian... so its 3:30am here... haha

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

Hola, Bec. I'm having a great day. It's 3:06 PM here in South Boston.

I have a friend who lives in Melbourne, Australia. My mate from down under.

JELLY BEANS!

DENISA HOWE | 1697 comments hi there... stopping by to say hello and leave some hugs...

message 12: by Bec (new)

Bec (foreverfnm) *scrambles around eating stale jelly beans* THANKS, Kat!

Denisa, thanks for the hugs, always appreciated.

Well, life has been pretty hectic, I've been trying to get to reading for the read-a-thon - I'm currently at about 500 pages... but I have until midnight Saturday to finish... so heres to reading!

I'm reading The Birds & Other Stories, and it is going slowly! I LOVED the birds, but some of the other stories are a little tedious... hoping to knock it off tonight at work.

Been there, done that. I have bad knees and feet (arches) so it's hard for me too. At work we do alot of bowl-a-thons and that's not too bad.
Happy Friday, BTW. Any plans for the weekend?

message 14: by Bec (new)

Bec (foreverfnm) Hey Julia, happy friday to you too! I'm planning on just having a relaxing day today and tomorrow (get some reading in), and then I have work Sunday afternoon.

Today I finished The Birds & Other Stories and was suprised. I usually don't enjoy short stories, but this was interesting. My favourites would have to be The Apple Tree and The Birds. I found the first story, Monte Verita to be very tedious!

Bec (foreverfnm) I forgot all about my little corner! poor thing! I've been so focused on the Seasonal Reading Challenge that I haven't done much else

I'm currently trying to get through War and Peace, which I've started struggling with. I'm also reading The Orphan Master's Son, and although I love the topic - North Korea - I'm finding the writing style and structure hard to keep up with.
