Amber (ukaunz) I just started reading The Croods Movie Novelization to my daughter. We enjoyed the movie :-)

The Croods Movie Novelization by Tracey West

I've also read a few pages of Les Misérables - it's going to be hard work!

Karine | 2 comments I have read to when it first came out, but that seems so long ago. It's nice to have a refresh before the movie

Joy | 4 comments Just read The Fault in Our Stars by John Green.

3.5 stars. Read the review at !

message 104: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (RandomKell) | 14 comments I really wanted to read Water for Elephants but it did not arrive in time to start at the beginning of the month so I started reading It by Stephen King for this challenge and another one as well. Which is good because it is such a long and massive book and between report cards and parent teacher interviews I don't think I would have managed to read both LoL

The movie is just amazing... And I just love the narration at exactly 02:00 hrs (according to my download).

I definitely think you should read it first - I absolutely loved the book and there is just so much that doesn't translate to the screen. Most people I know who saw the movie without reading the book found the movie quite confusing.

I second that! I read Cloud Atlas last year, and watched the movie just last night. I "got" most of the book, and found the movie fairly easy to follow; however my husband hadn't read it and found it a bit confusing (and I think he missed a lot of stuff by not having read the book, too). I've found some really helpful summaries and graphics on the Internet that help explain what's going on, but it's not as good as reading the book.

Trina (trina88) | 263 comments Just finished Beautiful Creatures, rated 5 stars. Pretty good for a young adult, paranormal, fantasy, romance. Now I will have to watch the movie.

Shannon (clarabellas) | 2 comments This month I read The Silver Linings Playbook. Saw the movie back when it came out, and I really enjoyed it.
The book was different in a few ways, but I loved it as well. I think I gave it a 4, but it is definitely one of my favourites.

Will do! Off to Sydney to catch up with some friends and attending the Richard III convention banquet and then doing some sight seeing as we haven't been there for way too many years! Only 10 days but a well earned 10 days....

message 124: by Michele (new)

Michele Just finished my book for this challenge Requiem for a Dream by Hubert Selby Jr. - what a powerful book, the movie was amazing and they really stayed true to the book

message 125: by Amber (new)

Amber (ukaunz) I finished reading The Croods Movie Novelization to my daughter last night, she wanted me to give it five stars (but I would rate it 3). It was fun enough, but there isn't much depth to a kids' movie novelisation! Next up we'll read either Mary Poppins or The Secret Garden.

Michael (knowledgelost) Michele wrote: "Just finished my book for this challenge Requiem for a Dream by Hubert Selby Jr. - what a powerful book, the movie was amazing and they really stayed true to the book"

That's great to hear, I'll have to read it (except that last few chapters) :P

message 127: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (shelld79) | 144 comments I only just realised that a book I finished recently was actually made into a movie a couple of years ago.

It was Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro .

As I thought this was the most boring book I have read in a long time I definitely won't be making the effort to track down the movie any time soon....

I finished The Shawshank Redemption. I never actually saw the film though I know everyone loved it! The book is really good - Stephen King at his best.

I remember being very confused when I started out reading it, especially when the first chapter/part stopped mid-sentence!

The book appears to be a lot better than the movie Arena. I loved the book, but didn't see the movie as I heard it was so different at the end that it wasn't liked...

Lee at ReadWriteWish (leeatreadwritewish) | 322 comments I loved Never Let Me Go, Michelle! Didn't find it boring at all. LOL And I also didn't realise it was a movie until later. It's a good adaptation.

Phe of mice and men, ps I love you, danielle steeles books daddy and messages from nam, kiss the girls, a time to kill, the firm, outsiders by s.e. hinton, luther the calling, marley and me, roots, and I've red those all so many times I could probablly make my own audiobooks by memory lol

Mish | 3586 comments Lee wrote: "I loved Never Let Me Go, Michelle! Didn't find it boring at all. LOL And I also didn't realise it was a movie until later. It's a good adaptation."

Really Lee? There's a part of me that really wants to see the movie but the other part knows it's going to hit me hard.

It's good to know though. I will watch it eventually but I'll have to pick the right time :)

Lee at ReadWriteWish (leeatreadwritewish) | 322 comments They changed a couple of things (assuming their audience is stupid like movie producers tend to do, I assume, they made some parts more obvious, plus they watered down some of the 'sex'!!) but overall it's very true to the book. I had never seen Carey Mulligan in anything before but she's really good as Cathy.

Lee at ReadWriteWish (leeatreadwritewish) | 322 comments On, and even though I knew the plot from the book, I still blubber end like a baby during the movie. Hee.

No I don't think I've heard or seen Carey Mulligan before.

Yeah It's expected that they would change a few things to suit the big screen but it's good to know it's almost true to the book.

I don't blame you...I'd be a blubbering mess too lol!
