Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) | 390 comments Ok, I was going to read Fairest for task 30.3 but I keep hearing how much better Ella Enchanted is, so I'm going to ditch Fairest and start on Ella Enchanted tonight. I also just started The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, which is really looking good so far1

message 153: by Jamie (new)

Jamie I finished The Goose Girl last night and absolutely loved it - a five star book for me. I'd wanted to move on to the next book in the series, Enna Burning, but I have to wait for it on ILL. While I wait, I'm going to read Graceling, which looks amazing, as well.

Beth - I hope you enjoy Ella Enchanted! It's one of my favorites.

oooooooo!! *jumps up and down* Keep me updated with what you think of Graceling, can't wait to see if you like it! Hope you do, *crosses fingers*

I definitely will! I just want to go home and start reading it!

message 156: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) its very addicting, or was to me. Thank goodness I started it on the weekend...because I don't think I got up more than once or twice before I'd finished the entire thing.

message 157: by Jamie (new)

Jamie That sounds good to me! I've been hoping to find more books like that. It would be great to have two in a row (Goose Girl).

Ella Enchanted is great! It's such a wonderful retelling, one of my favorites. The Absolutely True Diary of Part-Time Indian is on the opposite of the YA book spectrum but it's also a great read. I hope you enjoy both.

I didn't really know what to expect with this one, but I was pleasantly surprised. I hope you enjoy it, too!

I think I'm really going to! I've only just started but I already know I'm really going to like the way the story is told. I'm a sucker for a good narrator! :)

message 162: by Beth (new)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) | 390 comments So far I love The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. I just started it this afternoon and I'm already on page 101. I've also heard so many good things about Ella Enchanted that I'm sure I'll love that one too. I'm getting that one tonight so I'm sure I'll be reading both of these at the same time.

message 163: by Natalee (new)

Natalee (nataleem00) | 459 comments I am still reading Wicked. It's good but not a book I can't put down am excited to get to each day. Everyone is talking about Goose Girl and now I want to switch!!

message 164: by [deleted user] (new)

I was going to read Wicked The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West as well, but I think I may switch to The Goose Girl. It seems like a book everyone has been enjoying. I may also switch to Ella Enchanted...

message 165: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments I'm loving Touching Darkness and will hopefully get a lot of it read tonight now that my last two classes ever(until I decide to take a masters program) are OVER!

message 166: by Jamie (new)

Jamie Natalee and Linda - I can't say anything about Wicked, as I've never read it, but I highly recommend both The Goose Girl and Ella Enchanted. I think both books are excellent, as if you couldn't tell already. : )

message 167: by [deleted user] (new)

I've been wanting to read all 3 books, so I am having a hard time choosing. I will end up reading all of them eventually...

message 168: by Alexis (new)

Alexis (alexabexis) Touching Darkness was awesome! My favorite in the trilogy.

message 169: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen | 229 comments I love Ella Enchanted! One of my favorite YA books.

Mosca, A Wrinkle in Time is one of my favorite books of all time. I really hope you enjoy it!

Samantha McNulty I've just started reading The Titan's Curse, the third Percy Jackson book.

The Truth About Forever is my favorite by her so far.

I am reading Just Listen by Sarah Dessen.

message 173: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) I'm a bit confused. Several people here have mentioned Wicked. Would that be considered a YA book? I work at a bookstore and I generally go by how books are marketed and then by where they are in our store. I haven't seen anywhere that this would considered YA. Just a question.

I am currently reading Percy Jackson and the Olympians book 3: The Battle for the Labyrinth. I love it! The series is great! Can't put it down!

message 174: by [deleted user] (new)

Wicked The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West is categorized as Teen in my library. That is what we've been going by.

message 175: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) Ok, makes sense. I was just wondering. It makes sense because The Wizard of Oz is a YA or Middle Grade book. Thanks for clarifying that, Linda Grace. :)

message 176: by [deleted user] (new)

Anytime... I like answering questions! :D

message 177: by Alexis (new)

Alexis (alexabexis) Kathy wrote: "I work at a bookstore and I generally go by how books are marketed and then by where they are in our store."

I have that tendency, too, but libraries are a whole different beast. I've been really surprised by how mine classifies certain books.

message 178: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) I think that's my problem....because I work at a bookstore, I don't go to the library so often. :)

message 179: by Alexis (new)

Alexis (alexabexis) I used to work at a bookstore. It took a year, but the lack of an employee discount (and moving very close to a NYPL branch) has made the library my new best friend.

message 180: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) I believe it. It's too easy to spend half your paycheck on books. lol

message 181: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen | 229 comments I work at a bookstore too haha. I just bought two books today... I have a problem.

As for Wicked, my bookstore classifies it as adult. But I could see it being a teen book.

That's ok, Tahleen...you aren't alone! I have a problem. For me, working in a bookstore is like someone with a drinking problem working at a bar. lol. I love it! :)

message 183: by [deleted user] (new)

I would love to work at a bookstore or even a library! Or not work at all and just stay home in my (future) library... *sighs*

I keep saying that I'm waiting to win lotto so I can retire and read full-time. :)

message 185: by [deleted user] (new)

Haha sounds perfect to me... maybe I should play more...

message 186: by Alexis (new)

Alexis (alexabexis) All the Goose Girl readers got me. I picked it up from the library today.

message 187: by Beth (new)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) | 390 comments I just started reading Ella Enchanted and I can tell this is going to be another book I'll have trouble putting down.

message 188: by Jamie (new)

Jamie YAY, Alexis and Beth! You're reading two of my favorites...I just hope you like them! : )

message 189: by Beth (new)

message 190: by Alisha Marie (new)

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) I finished Graceling yesterday and am now reading Beastly by Alex Flinn. I am loving it so far.

I actually liked the part where she addresses the reader too, and I'm not exactly sure what the word 'perfidy' means, so I didn't find that condescending at all. I'm really enjoying Despereaux on your recommendation, Heather. I'm about 1/4 of the way thru.

message 193: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (JenJen1221) | 623 comments I'm reading The Tale of Despereaux and I'm loving it too. It's such a cute story. My niece read it as a classroom read when she was in elementary school and she kept telling me to read it. Well like 5 years later I'm reading it and I will push it onto my brother and make him read it to his kids.

message 194: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) I recently finished Graveyard Book, am reading Despereaux now, and will be starting Goose Girl after that....!

message 195: by Natalee (new)

Natalee (nataleem00) | 459 comments Well I decided to put Wicked to the side for now. It's not that I don't like it, it's just difficult to get through. It's not a book I am excited to find time for. Plus, my daughter is reading Speak for school and I feel it's important for me to read it as well. So, now I am reading that and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

I loved Beastly! There's a Fairy Tales and Retellings topic in the Fantasy folder if you want to talk about it.

I'm currently reading Anne of Green Gables. Just a few chapters in and I'm already kicking myself for stubbornly not reading this when I was a kid. For some reason I thought I wouldn't like it!

message 197: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Oops, also just started Anne of Avonlea on audio is well - Book 2 in the Green Gables series.

So glad you're enjoying Anne, Alexis! It was the right book at the right time for me, for sure. She finds the upside to every part of life.

Thanks! That aspect is reminding me of Pollyana, actually, a book I loved as a girl. I also adored the Haley Mills movie version.
