Bojana (bpop) Time to read and discuss another beloved classic :) Post your thoughts on Dracula, (while still reading) in this thread.

Yes, I thought about that too. I wonder what, if any, significance these women have. Are they simply a diversion or a way to goad J. into leaving the castle or are they something else? I don't know.

I have also been mulling over the significance of Renfield in the story. He is a significant character, but what is his role? Who is he?

Louise Taylor | 24 comments I think the women are there to bite the men. It was written at a time when it wouldn't do for a man to bite a man. Teeth penetrating flesh - blood penetrating a body. The men give blood transfusions and bite the women.

Oscar Wilde was imprisoned at about that time. Bram Stoker married Wilde's ex fiance so he would have been very aware of this.

Not sure about Renfield either. I don't understand how the count effects him. In one of the films he is an estate agent and met the count but not in the book. I will have to think about that some more. I will let you know if I can see his purpose.

Louise Taylor | 24 comments Catherine - the third post on this forum is an interesting look at Renfield.

Thank you very much!! I'm working on some sort of an idea about Renfield and Dracula, but I need to finish the book first and then put my thoughts in order.
