Kari | 5 comments Feel free to jump in on the fun! We are kind of late getting started but it keeps the end of the month interesting until next pairs start :) We are reading The Selection by Keira Cass

Kari | 5 comments I'm now 5 chapters in and this story reminds me a lot of Cinderella. The eligible bachelorettes being picked for a Prince is very much like the fairy tale. I feel like once the girls get to the palace for the Selection it will be a lot more vicious/back stabbing than Cinderella was.

Also, the romance between Aspen and America has been well built up so far. I'm mildly devastated they will be separated because of this, and I can already see the dread love triangle looming in the distance.

Georgianne | 14 comments Okay I confess, I kinda went on a role and read almost 3/4 of the book (up to ch 20)...

I must say that I am really enjoying the story so far. I agree that it is very similar to Cinderella, though it has a modern flair that caught me by surprise. For example, they have TV and telephones as well as kitchen appliances.

I don't want to spoil anything here but I must say that Maxon is growing on me, and I'm curious about how the author will handle the triangle.

Some things I'm keeping an eye on are the rebels and the King, because I feel that they may have a more significant upcoming role. Anyways, this book is very hard to put down.

Side Note: Does America have curly hair or not? I keep picturing her with curly hair but I don't think it was ever mentioned...

Kari | 5 comments So I finished it this morning. I had a hard time putting it down :).

I really liked the story. It was very Cinderella meets the Bachelor. By the end of the story I really disliked Aspen and am totally on Team Maxon haha. I am really wanting to start the next book, and I'm really interested to see how much of a role the rebels take in the next book.

The ending was pretty abrupt for me. I'm interested to see if you feel the same way. I got to the last page and went "wait... that's it???" My only conundrum now is if I read the next book I have to wait until next year for the end of the trilogy. :(

I pictured America with straight hair. When they cut in her layers I imagined it had a natural curl at the ends since she talked about them adding body, but I didn't really envision curly hair.

Georgianne | 14 comments Yeah I finished really quick too!

I also really loved the story and, similar to you, am totally rooting for Maxon! I just love their conversations and the way they joke around with each other. By the end, Aspen just seems very physical and it makes me wonder how much they really had in common.

I agree that the ending was very abrupt. I got to the end and just stared at the 'Acknowledgements' page as if it would magically turn into the rest of the story. I have put the sequel on hold at the library, which means that the wait for the third one is going to be terrible, but I really want to know what happens!

This is another random question, but remember when America brings her maids with her during the raid? Isn't that sort of backwards because while it's dangerous outside of the room, wouldn't the rebels be trying to break into the room? I guess maybe it's still safer, but I don't know.

With regards to the King, I feel like he doesn't really care about the kingdom. I wouldn't be surprised if he got blackmailed by the rebels and gave them the lower castes' money. He doesn't seem very trustworthy.

As for my predictions/what I'm hoping for, I think America should end up with Maxon and Aspen with either Marlee or one of the maids (Lucy seemed to be crushing on him).
